Osborne didn't want to wear the hat so bad that he summons up a gust of wind to blow the hat off and tries to act surprised it blew off.

Nmelkhunter 1 is spot on. The border rival of the Cornhuskers was the Oklahoma Sinners. Especially the "Bootleggers Boy," Barry Switzer. Over the long haul though Osborne came back and whipped his rival. And everyone else! No coach ever did it better. Or longer. Osbornes last five seasons were unapproachable in the history of college football. SIXTY WINS AND THREE DEFEATS IN HIS FINAL FIVE SEASONS. PLAYING FOR FOUR TITLES AND WINNING THREE OF THEM! Better still is the unparalleled consistency of his reign. Never less than nine wins in any season over twenty five years of glory. While Switzers power waned gradually and he left the Sooner program in chaos. No college program will ever match what Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne did at Nebraska.

If Jesus Christ was a linebacker he would have made LT and Ray Lewis look like children. What’s more, he would have spanked the Oklahoma Sinners.

@@robjohnson8861 so its you again and who gives a fuck about his bowl record he had a bad stretch like so many other coaches and I just have alot of respect for the coach so if you have a problem with that tough fucking shit I'm a true blue nebraska fan so you can fuck off with all your stupid insinuations idiot you think you could win 250 games faster than. Any other coach in history or the future I doubt you'd know shit from crisco

"You know devaney was a really good coach but osborne was a great coach" Every time you type something about Osborne, you demonstrate your weird obsession with him. Devaney at Neb: ** coached 11 years and won the AP NC twice, once every 5.5 years, vs once every 12.5 years like Osborne, ** had a winning bowl record (67%) vs Osborne's losing bowl record (12-13), ** finished in the top 5, 44% of the time vs Osborne's 33% when winning at least 9 games. TO's 25 years of 9 or more wins only netted him 8 top 5 finishes. ** won 72% of the Big 8 championships to Osborne's 52%. Osborne did win 84% of his games vs Devaney's 83% And you claim Osborne was better. Idiot!

@@traviskrause8509 I mentioned 4 things and you referenced 1. Selective analysis, it's what a Neb fan does. And "respect", for playing Phillip's. God, what a hole you continue to dig.

@@robjohnson8861 nope no hole just one assholes absestion to put down the nebraska football program and everybody involved and playing phillips was completely justified he was disciplined so give it a rest you must be upset that we destroyed Florida in the feista bowl so go cry somewhere else little boy your just showing your stupidity I could crush you with facts of greatness of nebraska football but I'd have to write a book to get it all written down

@@traviskrause8509"I'd have to write a book to get it all written down " WTF! I mentioned 5 of the major reasons a coach would be considered great, in which Devaney owned Osborne in all of them, except 1 in which Osborne was barely better than Devaney and you could write a book? But you can't refute 1 here and/or comeback with what would be regarded a better measure of greatness. Beating Big 8 teams but losing 12-13 bowls means the Big 8 sucked. You blowoff.

The greatest dynasty in the history of college football in terms of continuous success. From the moment Bob Devaney arrived in Lincoln, he galvanized an entire state behind the University of Nebraska. Crunching, power football that left opponents in their wake. Devaneys 1971 Cornhuskers were probably college footballs greatest team ever. A team proficient and powerful in every phase of football. A team without a flaw. Alabamas legendary Bear Bryant acknowledged them as the greatest he'd ever seen. Osbornes career as Devaneys hand picked successor had highs and lows. But far more highs! After several embarrassing losses in bowls, Osborne changed his entire philosophy. He went after speed like never before. The result was the greatest combination of power and speed that has ever been seen. A final five year tally of 60-3! This was the finest five year stretch in college football history. Not even Nick Saban at Akabama had a greater five year stretch.
