Okay this is a really good way to take people through photography and video techniques. I haven't seen anyone else using this technique. I think it would be a good idea to break these up into separate videos for the different scenes people are trying to shoot so they can dive into a subject, then you can also discuss different options afterwards.

I do like the idea of creating shorter videos with a narrower, more detailed explanation. Sometimes I get started on something and it just grows. Many videos result from specific questions from viewers. As I do more, I'm finding a little more balance. Sometimes it reflects my level of interest or experience with the particular topic. I appreciate you comments and will incorporate suggestions in future videos. Thanks.

I use a 52mm filter on my P610 and then use a 52mm to 67mm adapter for my polarizing filter. You could just use a 52mm polarizing filter, but I have cameras which use 67mm filters, so the adapter is an easy solution. Thank you for questions and comments and thank you for viewing.

Hello MontanaMonk; I'm wondering if i should get a macro lense for this camera, as i find if i zoom in for a close up the image doesnt focus? Thanks
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
For many things, like flowers and larger insects, the built-in macro capability is fine. For smaller things, like ants and spiders, a macro lens is good. The snap-on Raynox DCR-250 is great and fairly inexpensive. Of course, the greater the magnification, the more difficult it is to get a good focus. You also need the camera to be solid as well as the small things need to hold still to stay focused. But it is worth the trouble to get really close images. One thing to remember with the built-in macro is that once you zoom in too much, the macro capability goes away. Watch the zoom indicator. When the green goes away, so does macro focusing. Even while zoom is in the green area, you still need to pick a distance that will work for what you want to shoot. The greatest magnification in the built-in macro mode will be when the zoom is at about 35mm. Of course, the distance to the lens is probably less than 1 inch at this level, so it's not great for working with moving things. Also, at this distance, lighting the subject requires light from the sides. Thank you for viewing and for questions and comments.
@parkspaziergang8 жыл бұрын
do you know where you can get macro lenses?
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
The macro lens I use is the DCR-250 from Raynox and is available on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Raynox-DCR-250-Super-Macro-Snap/dp/B000A1SZ2Y or at B & H Photo Video www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/275182-REG/Raynox_DCR_250_DCR_250_2_5x_Super_Macro.html or Adorama www.adorama.com/RecommendFor/irxdcr250.html Probably at many other photographic stores. Raynox also makes the DCR-150, which has a lower magnification.

@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
+Hajnalka Bodó The photo with the water was shot with a neutral density filter at about mid day, so the sun was bright. You could get the same effect if you shot the water when it was quite dark and used a long exposure of about 8 seconds. You could also shoot when it is very dark but with the moon up with about an 8 second exposure and adjusting the f-stop and ISO to get the proper exposure. Thank you for comments and for viewing.

Good afternoon Mr. Montana I watched all your videos cause I have s B700 I love the way you make your videos but I wonder why you didn't make any testing the zoom I know that the white bar means 1440 mm Do you know how much is the light blue bar of the zoom maybe 1800mm thank you in advance for your reply
@MontanaMonk6 жыл бұрын
You are correct that the white zoom bar indicates 1440 mm. The blue bar varies with the image size. The blue bar and yellow bar indicate Digital Zoom is being used, which indicates that you are cropping the image created by the sensor. In the blue area, the cropping is not supposed to affect the quality of the image too much. In the yellow area, the quality may be affected noticeably. I never use the digital zoom capability on cameras, since I can just crop them with an editor, producing a similar zoom result, but probably with less degradation of the image. The maximum digital zoom is 4x the optical zoom, which is equivalent to 5760 mm. I hope this helps. Thank you for questions and comments and thank you for viewing.

Hello, help with the choice of the novice . What you personally prefer. Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ72 vs Nikon Coolpix P610? All-weather capability is significant, because where I live the winter temperature is far beyond -20*C. Thank you.
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
The choice between these two cameras is difficult. They have very similar specifications. I like the monitor on the P610 because is has full articulation, allowing it to face in nearly any direction. However, that might be a negative factor if you want to reduce the influence of weather, since that also is a point where dust, snow and frost might collect. Neither of the cameras has any claimed resistance to the weather. I have both Panasonic and Nikon cameras and I like both about equally. However, one camera of the same type, although more expensive, is the Fujifilm FinePix S1, which is weather resistant and has about the same specifications as both the Panasonic and the Nikon. If price is the limiting factor, I would probably choose the Panasonic FZ72, just because the monitor might be less susceptible to weather. If you can go a little more expensive, I would look at the FinePix S1. Thank you for questions and comments. Thank you for viewing.
@Andrey-y7p8 жыл бұрын
S1 I found is cheaper than the Nikon and the Panasonic (it happens in different countries different prices for the same goods). If the display not to twist in the cold, what would happen to him? Protection from moisture is good, the zoom is smaller and the possibility, too, probably. Wrong?
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
If the temperature is very cold and there would be a possibility that the display would not twist, I would just rely on the eye-level viewfinder. The zoom is just slightly smaller and I probably wouldn't make a choice based on that difference.

At the time I purchased the P610, I wanted the Coolpix P900. It wasn't available, so I got the P610. I am happy with my choice. I did investigate many cameras when I got the P610, and it was the best at the time. I hope this translation works. It is the first time I have tried with this language. В то время я приобрел P610, я хотел Coolpix P900. Это не было, так что я получил P610. Я доволен своим выбором. Я провел расследование много камер, когда я получил P610, и это был лучший в то время.

+softair1231 I would agree that the PowerShot G7 X is a good way to go, if you don't need the long zoom and are willing to pay a little more than the P610. However, if a little more money is in the picture, you should also look at the Panasonic DMC-LX100.

Hi. What does Single mode, Continuous H, L, pre-shooting cache, Continuous H 120 fps and rest of the same stand for? I'm brazilian and did not understand so much.
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
Single mode takes one photograph each time you press the shutter release. Continuous H takes about 7 photographs per second for up to one second while the shutter release is held down. Continuous L takes about two photographs per second up to about 200 photos while the shutter release is held down. Pre-shooting cache starts shooting when the shutter release is pressed halfway down and starts shooting at about 15 photos per second up to about 20 photos while the shutter release is held down (the resolution of these images is reduced in this mode). Continuous H:120 shoots up to 60 photographs at 120 photos per second, so only about 1/2 second at a very reduced resolution. Continuous H:60 shoots photos at 60 photos per second for about 1 second at a much reduced resolution. For most things, Single mode is proper. For sports, some of the high speed modes might work better. However, the Scene Sports mode does most of what you would like for sports. I hope this helps. Thank you for viewing and for your comments.

Hi, great video !!! was just for a question, what neutral density filters did you use for the pic with the river ? Thank you
@MontanaMonk6 жыл бұрын
I used the ICE ND1000 Filter Neutral Density ND 1000. It is a 10 stop neutral density filter, so it is very dark. I get the camera focused before putting the filter on because it would be too dark to focus with the filter. I use manual settings for shutter speed and f-stop and adjust 10 stops from the meter reading before the filter was put on. Thank you for questions and comments and thank you for viewing,

@MontanaMonk6 жыл бұрын
Using Selective Color allows you to create the image you want. However, you shoot the image in the normal way and change it after shooting. When you have shot the image, go to Playback and view the image you want to change. Press Menu and select Filter Effects-Selective Color. On the right side of the monitor, select the color you want to keep (or as near as possible). Press OK and a new image will be saved that will be black and white except for the color you selected. Your original image will still be available, too. Thank you for questions and comments and thank you for viewing.

@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
Between the two Nikon cameras, I would choose the P610. The Canon would probably be close to the P610. However, I just bought the Canon sx60 hs for my granddaughter. The reasons: external mic jack, wider angle lens, hot flash shoe.
@alexandramarek6848 жыл бұрын
What you think about this camera vs the Fujifilm s1? I can't decide!!!
@MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
+Ali Fermin That is a tough choice to make. I think the JPEG images might be a little better from the Nikon but Fuji has RAW, so that might equal out (depending on how fast RAW is processed). I like the hot-shoe on the Fuji which the Nikon doesn't have. Probably not a decisive feature, since I got the Nikon for portability and long zoom. The 50x Fuji vs 60x Nikon isn't a real big difference. Nikon has GPS built-in whereas Fuji has optional GPS. The Fuji is a little larger and a little heavier but probably not enough to be a decision maker. Fuji is weather resistant which could be important. Most of the other features are similar for both cameras. For my use, I would probably still choose the Nikon, but I could easily recommend the Fuji, depending on the needs of the photographer. Even price is not going to influence the decision very much, since they are in the same price range. Thanks for comments and for viewing.

@MontanaMonk9 жыл бұрын
+Abishek Rajasekaran The video is done with a combination of cameras. The images for demonstrating the capabilities of the Coolpix P610 were shot with the P610. To record my changes to the P610 settings, I used a Panasonic HC-V250 Camcorder. The camcorder and P610 are mounted on a rail which is usually on a tripod. @MontanaMonk8 жыл бұрын
+Charlene Lammers No, the filter is is not built into the camera. In fact Nikon says there are no threads for a filter. However, lots of people are using the ridges on the lens that hold the lens cap as threads because they look like threads and act like threads. How did you do the double exposure?
@MontanaMonk9 жыл бұрын
+Precious Perez Set the mode selector to either P, S, A or M. Turn on the menu and select Multiple Exposure and set it to ON. On the same menu set Auto gain either On or Off, depending on your need (I used Auto gain ON). Then Shoot a frame and the camera will show you the next frame overlaying the previous frame before you shoot, so you can position succeeding frames. The camera will keep combining frames until you turn off Multiple Exposure. After the first two frames you will see the combination but after the third frame, it will appear to start over. It doesn't really start over, it continues combining but the result will probably not be too good. Two frames overlapped can look good if you plan ahead. More than that turns into a mess. The camera does save all the individual frames as well as the combined frames so playing them back you can see what has happened.

+ouchen zach I tried to talk myself into the FZ200 when I got the P610 (the FZ300 wasn't available at that time). I liked the constant f2.8 capability. However, it didn't seem to have the low light performance/quality that I expected from that capability. I also wanted a camera that had more zoom. Both cameras have similar features, except for the zoom. I have other Panasonic cameras and I really like them. For the kind of shooting I do with the P610, the constant f2.8 aperture wouldn't change much. Thanks for viewing and for comments.
