Up until the oldest was age 8 I think my siblings and I all bathed together, and when we got bigger we reused bath water. Now I shower with my daughter sometimes, and her father has done it too, but wearing a swimsuit. Kids will tell you when they're too old for this.

I always get every bit from a container, even if I have to use a big butcher knife......you can buy “mini rubber spatulas” online and at some wal-marts, they are made for condiment bottles, make up bottles, tubes and everything that’s hard to empty! Some plastic tubes and glass you just can’t get into. If I knew how to post a link I would but just type in mini last drop spatula or something like that. They are about $12 for 4 different sizes. I save napkins, containers and anything else I can reuse and everybody makes fun of me....but I’m debt free and have money in the bank and they are drowning in debt ! For some reason in this new “minimalist fad” society, people think if you save and reuse, you’re a hoarder 🥴 I do it not only to save money but to cut down on waste...reduce, reuse, recycle ♻️

I would love to see how you are frugal when it comes to toys and how you organize them! My kid’s toys have taken over our home! 😬😬
@kroggie7713
@kroggie7713 4 жыл бұрын
The same trick Jordan uses with her clothes, works with toys. Divide them up in 3 piles, box 2 piles up, and put them away, leaving one to play with (be sure to leave out the favorite toy of each kid all the time). When you see the "out" pile has lost it's luster, box them up, put it away (while they are at school), and take out another (leave it for them to unpack). The kids will feel like they got new toys, be less "bored" with what they have and you'll get more playtime out of less popular toys. Suggestion: Make up a separate smaller box (of less popular toys), that does not get rotated, for when you go to visit friends (especially those who does not have kids of their own), to keep the kids busy.

Yeah, that’s the point people want more content but it costs money to maintain and build that stuff and sponsorship alone does not supply enough funding. That’s why she did VIFreebs to try to keep up with the demand to supply people with more content. If it’s requested enough and people are willing to pay a fee, it helps provide more content. There’s databases, server side management, tech support, development, etc... It costs a lot. I’m sure she’ll expand on content in an app version if it makes sense and becomes more feasible. Her content has come such a long way from where it was and it’s amazing to see not only the transformation but that her and Bubba still implement those principles even though they are in a better place financially. They still do these things so that they don’t fall backwards. :-)

When my kids were young and we were dirt poor someone told me about “free soup“. Keep a container in the freezer and then after meal time when you have small amounts of vegetables, pasta ,meat and there’s not really enough to save for another meal but nobody wants to eat it and you sure don’t want to throw it away you put it in your bucket in the freezer, when it has enough for a meal add whatever else you may need to it and you have a original vegetable/meat soup ! And no more small containers of spoiled peas in the back of the fridge :)

Jen Pitre ....sorry for mentioning another KZbin channel, I don’t mean any disrespect for Jordan Page but she might like it too....anyhow there is a lady “Mary’s nest” on KZbin and she has amazing ideas to use every little scrap !! She makes extracts with scraps, apple cider vinegar with cores, peels or sad looking apples, the most beneficial way to get all the goodness out of bones for bone broth......her focus is to teach people how to make nutrient dense foods by the cheapest way possible. She always gives alternatives to ingredients and utensils so it can be used by anyone and it’s understandable ! My apple cider vinegar is almost done, so easy and cheap.....I think I’m going to make her homemade pine-sol !!!

I remember most of the same things, I would bathe the kids together in our ensuite as it is a big tub and therefore save water by just filling it half way and using for both of them. We would also never throw away napkins from takeout or containers of yogurt or butter as they make great reusable storage. We turn off all lights if we are not in the room and also only run the laundry at the off peak time as suggested by our municipality.

Me and my husband start shopping for Christmas in January. We have 7 kids and 1 grandson. BUT.. we always hit the clearance section. And only buy when it’s 50% or more off. My kids aren’t picky with what they play with so we got lucky with that. We hit the clearance racks everywhere, from JCPenney to Victoria Secret, target and Walmart. We’ve also got some good stuff from dollar general too. And we take advantage of Walmart Christmas layaway. We let our kids pick out a gift they really want. So every Christmas people say we spent too much when really we didn’t. This just works out better for us. It feels good to have our Christmas bonus for other stuff.

If there are leftovers that might only feed one or two plus some cans of soup or maybe freeze a single serving of leftovers and a then after a month I might have enough for everyone to have a different meal but all leftover ed. Sometimes, there arent left overs but a bag with 10 chicken nuggets, a box of mac n cheese, a can of chili...whatever and everyone scrounges for themselves( of course mom helps). As a trained piano teacher, I've had so many experiences of kids coming to me either from a tutor who is not trained in piano or from apps. Their technique suffers down the line, I had to start with them again from zero after them playing for 5 years cause their hands were so bad and this way of playing caused some of them an injury or at least real frustration since they didn't progress the way they should have. Please invest in a music teacher now, when the kids can learn solid foundations to build on and later they can teach themselves when they already know these things. I can't stress enough how hand position and sitting position play such a huge role!

I haven’t met many people who do this, but in addition to turning off lights/heat etc, I also unplug as many things as possible when they’re not in use or don’t get used super often. Blender, toaster, printer, chargers, even lamps. I used to only do it when we were going out of town but it’s become a regular habit.

We are a family of 5 and we spend around $300 a month in groceries. We do meatless meals 2 nights a week and we try for soups ir casseroles or things that have leftovers. Also my 2 toddlers dont eat but a tiny amount no matter how delicious a meal is (sigh and eye roll) so that probably helps keep the budget low

We make our own vegetable stock. We take the scraps from the cut uncooked vegetables that we didn’t need for a dish and keep filling up a freezer zip lock bag. When we need stock, we grab a couple of handfuls and just simmer it in water or leave in a crock pot. We make enough to freeze the rest to use later. We also have our own basil plant for Italian dishes.

LOVE the Wal-Mart grocery pickup. It has saved me so much time and money. One thing that I do to help save $ is- my makeup foundation comes in a plastic tube with a cap, so when I can't get any more out, I start cutting parts of it, starting at the bottom and work myself up. There is quite a lot left by using it that way, even though I can't get any more out by the regular way.

13:19 Hey Jordan, about music lessons: I understand private music lessons are expensive, but for music you NEED a good music TEACHER, especially with the basics. Here's why: Music is very comparable to a sport; you have to practice enough to get better, and you have to do the movements correctly, otherwise you will get an injury (!). The trouble is this: kids are quite flexible, so sometimes they only notice the pain years down the road. Once they have learned a wrong position, it will be much harder to "unlearn" them, even with the best teacher in town. Apps are fun, but not a replacement for the supervision of your kids hands, backs, necks etc. For a cheaper alternative for private piano/guitar lessons; try a good childrens choir, or instrumental group lessons... P.S. I am a long-time follower and I love your energetic spirit + beautiful family. You do you :)

We use WM grocery pickup too...it has saved us a ton on groceries and no more standing in the store price comparing! Another thing we've always done is keep a left over container in the freezer. When we have say a spoon full of corn or peas we pop it in the container (we use a gallon plastic ice cream bucket) when it gets full we add a can or 2 of diced tomatoes and a 1/2 gallon jug of tomato juice and it makes wonderful leftover veggie soup.

I freeze extra meals in either ziploc bags or it plastic wrap and then foil. When I do vegetables as a side (which is just about every night) if there is any left over I put them in a container and freeze them for the next time I do like a soup or a roast. Also I buy ham in the 1lb bulk package and save the containers for leftovers and I have my 2 kids bathe together. I plan on doing that for a few more months at least because they are getting to big to fit in the tub together.

For things like rain boots, jackets and seasonal items, buy neutral colors that can be worn between both girls and boys. I have found this to be helpful. My daughter is almost two and has lived off several of her brothers pants and shirts and shoes. Of course we get her things that girly and unique to her but for around the house (we have land) it’s great to just have play clothes that I don’t need to go out and buy.

Love the tip about closing doors and saving energy, so important!! And the kids showering together is genius, too. Thinking of it, my sister and I used to bathe together as kids for the longest time, maybe it was a frugal thing on my parents part, I don't know. we loved it. I´m not sold on the disposable food containers, though, I understand the practicality, but both on an environmental perspective AND a cost one, I think it´s much better to always use reusable (glass, silicone, whatever. Even the "disposable" obes, if you wash them and re-use them). Even when you take food to friends, you can just wash them and take them back, it´s really not a big deal.
@vlk40
@vlk40 4 жыл бұрын
lemondrizzlecake I think sometimes if you’re taking a meal to someone who has just had surgery, or a baby etc, the disposable are a better choice. For one, maybe those people aren’t in a position to want to have to wash and return others dishes to them. Also I have had people hold onto my pans forever or actually never return them. Taking them in disposable dishes makes it easier for both of us. Now if you’re taking food to a potluck or something use your own dishes and bring them home at the end of a meal. Ugh, the struggle of being earth conscious is a real one. ☺️
@lemondrizzlecake7766
@lemondrizzlecake7766 4 жыл бұрын
Victoria K So true! You make really good points, I completely agree. I just noticed that when I have disposables around I end up using them even when it’s not strictly necessary, so I just... stopped buying them. But you’re right, there are situations when they’re the best option.

We also have a gym membership ($100/month for the whole family) and use it all the time since it has an indoor waterpark and we schedule showers for our 4 kids around when we can take them swimming. So much easier when they all get their own shower at the same time. The gym membership also saves us a ton on their sports that are through the gym. Love the piano lesson tip. Might try that.

Thanks for all your tips Jordan. As a professional musician with a degree in viola performance, who teaches private music lessons for a living, I just want to comment about you dropping your kiddos music lessons. I totally understand that lessons can add up! But in reality, music teachers don't just spend time doing things for your kids when they see them in the lesson. There is time spent managing every individual lesson plan, emailing, and handling other studio chores. We also have rent to pay, studio supplies to purchase, and instruments to upkeep. In reality, $30.00 a lesson is a bargain for getting quality, professional instruction.

Only thing I do different is that I don’t have a closet, all of my cloths fit in one dresser (I try to keep my cloths as minimal as possible) so instead of doing the hanger trick I just look at what cloths have ended up at the bottom of the drawer at the start of a new season. Everytime I fill up a basket of old cloths to take to goodwill I go shopping & refill my dresser with new cloths that I enjoy more! I end up having a minimal amount of cloths while still having cloths that I love to wear!
