I read somewhere that scrunched up balls of foil work well in the washing machine when your dogs sheds hair as much as mine does and it gets all over your clothes. It seems to work.

I was really worried about my service dog pulling dryer sheets out of the machine so I switched to wool balls. Not only is is a game for him now, but I'm saving money avoiding the vet bill and no cost. You can dropper a little essential oil on the ball if you haaaaave to have a scent.

Yeah it for sure depends on kids. But yeah here i think with stuff like apple sauce that dosnt need to be in fridge anyway or cookies crackers etc we just pop in tubs for bulk bags to save more money and waste. It was just a extra trip if you want to take one step further

PSA: The biggest container of something at the store is NOT ALWAYS the cheapest price. For example at my grocery store, per pound, 10 pound bags of rice are cheaper than 20 pound bags. ALWAYS CHECK THE UNIT PRICE!

I always check, too...especially when there's a sale. Sometimes only some sizes of a brand will be on sale, and the smaller, sale-priced packages are cheaper per ounce or per pound than the bigger, regular-priced packages. But, as in your example, there doesn't always have to be a sale for this to be the case. I guess retailers just bank on people assuming that the bigger packages are cheaper.

Yep! I bought 4 small jars of peanut butter once for 2$ total- together they totaled to 35oz and the 32oz larger jar was 2.94$ 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agree. I buy Aldis brand nutella otherwise I would find one of my kids sitting there and just eating it out of the container with a spoon. It's cheaper than bulk buying, tastes the same and my kids know there is only so much so they R a bit more careful when using it.

I buy the standard size Philadelphia cream cheese that comes wrapped in tin foil in a paper box. I place it still in the tin foil in a same-sized glass container with lid and it never gets mold or crusty edges!

I’m having anxiety and postpartum depression and you make me feel so much better because you motivated me and give me so much ideas. Right now I’m struggling with paying our bills and I try not to waist money but my husband doesn’t even try, my problems is he eats outside knowing we have to pay stuff and even do I explain what I’m trying to do and I cook for him but he simply wants to eat out and other things but I’m not going to lose my Faith. ❤️

I listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio and he tells someone in your situation that you have to get your spouse to understand the "why". Like explain how you have figured out (for example) that you can pay off school loans and have an emergency fund in just two years instead of ten years or something along those lines. I might not be explaining that super great but you can look up his podcast online and do a search for "spouse" and see what pops up. If you could get your husband to attend one of Dave's conferences with you, I bet that would do it.

Hey lovely! First and foremost- congratulations, a child is such a precious blessing. Though is very important for you and your husband to be on the same page financially, some people are more resistant to changes. Best approach is baby steps. So he wants to eat out, can he compromise on every other day? Remember, talk don't nag, cuz he will probably resist harder. I know it's asking a lot of restrain from you right know, but you shouldn't shoulder the stress and responsibility alone. So any compromise on his part will help and can be built on. Please take care, a talk to someone you trust if your feelings start to overwhelm you.

try the "allowance" method - he get's an allowance (and so do you - same amount) and out of the allowance he pays for his treats - when the allowance is gone he has to wait until next allowance. This is something I do and I live alone. If I want an expensive treat (new makeup for example) it comes out of my allowance, same with coffee and eating out. My allowance is $140 a month. If I don't spend it all it goes in a jar and I try to see how much I can accumulate over a 6 month period. Totally guilt free spending

Definitely suggest switching to dryer balls! One 3 pack has lasted me almost 2 years now! And you can use essential oils on them if scent is important to you

Love, love, love! So using the container idea. Every week we have a potluck meal at church and I love sending and making "plates" with the leftovers (especially for our larger familes, those in need, and our elderly members). But paper isn't the greatest option...especially in chili & soup season. This will be the perfect outlet for my container hoarding and strong desire to fill all the tummies. Yeah. No. Not that awesome. It's really, really bad for kids feet to wear shoes from siblings. It's really bad for your posture to wear someone elses shoes. Especially when you're still growing. In the end, it will not save you a dime, because those costs will come back in the form of medical bills, later in life.

You want to be careful with reusing the baggies. For some dry goods it is OK but, perishable foods not so much. A family member of mine was reusing and washing every baggie, no matter what was in it. She kept getting sick. Long story short she eventually found out ( through process of elimination) it was the old baggies that were making her sick. She now only reuses baggies that only have certain dry goods in them.

Yes, just like youre not supposed to reuse plastic water bottles, after a few uses, especially if they are left in the sub, the plastic starts to leech into the water.

For the laundry, try Dr Bronner’s Sal Suds! It’s seriously life changing. It looks a bit pricey for the size, but considering you only need 1 tbsp per load of laundry it’s really cheap. And it has so many other uses (the best stain remover I’ve ever used, clean carpets and upholstery, mop the floors with it, use it as dish soap, clean the bathroom, etc). I use that, half a cup of vinegar as fabric softener, and then wool dryer balls to fight static and add fragrance, and that’s it. It cleans as well, if not better than name brand detergent and is honestly gentler on my clothes. Each giant load of laundry costs less than 20 cents, and it’s better for the environment and my health as well.

@@annamcgee7434 I use vinegar in my laundry. It actually makes you laundry smell fresher. It neutralizes bad odors. Also, you don't put a lot in, maybe 1/2 cup. So, by the time it mixes with the rinse water, it's really not that strong.

Anna McGonigle I just get it at my local Fred Meyer (local Kroger chain) in Oregon, but if you’re somewhere else in the country any more health conscious store like Whole Foods would probably have it, or it’s probably on Amazon. And I second what Rain Puddles said. Vinegar freshens up the clothes and it’s such a small amount that your clothes never smell like vinegar. I use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets and I just put a couple drops of essential oil on them every few weeks and that scents my clothes enough for me, but isn’t necessary

My MIKI I agree. She could also buy gummies, dried fruits, applesauce, yogurts, etc in bulk stores that use no packaging. It seems like there is a routine here of the same food items for school etc weekly. Instead of giving each child a plastic wrapped pack of fruit snacks every single day, buy a massive amount of fruit snacks at a bulk store and package them into little glass or even aluminum containers. I understand that low waste is difficult for some but I believe there are some really simple ways to make that kitchen MUCH less plastic ridden

I thought I was the only one who washed and reused ziploc bags. 😂 . We invested in a vacuum sealer for our vegetables and meats since we buy alot in bulk. They keep them fresher longer and no freezer burn. We even reuse those bags until they are too small to seal up anymore. Life changer.

I buy butter in bulk and freeze them in sticks with the vacuum sealer. Found butter bought in 2014 and ate it in 2018 - it was as fresh as the day it was frozen, no smell, no color change, no taste change, no freezer burn. My foodsaver has paid for itself.

We cook almost everything in bulk. Yesterday, we made 96 slices of french toast and 40 cheese quesadillas for the freezer. Add in some fruit and nuts and they're great quick meals for my kids. In addition we put a beef roast in the slow cooker and made bread in the bread machine for dinner. We have three sets of twins so far, ages 4y1m, 2y8m, and 11m.

It's extremely hard to adopt here in Australia because of government red tape so our family is pretty rare in our country even though it is common to adopt in America. No kid gets a free lunch in Australia but a sandwich and some fruit is pretty simple to do..... Our major cities R much likes yours except bigger so no major difference. Kids just eat their packed lunch outside in a garden area during lunch and recess.

We feel it is important to eat organic and try to buy things with less fillers and additives. Love that you reuse zip baggies! There are silicone zip baggies available as long as u guys dont have allergies. A lot of other comments have also mentioned the reusable squeeze pouches and containers instead of wrapped snacks. I know they are young now and containers may not make it home but definitely something to think about as they get older! They are already so responsible and conscious for their ages! I know you have mentioned any wasted lunch comes out of their allowance, maybe so could lost containers? Love your family so much 💕💕💕

So I just came upon sheet pan scrambled eggs and they are the greatest thing ever, especially for a large family (we’re only 6!). You just scramble, throw them on pan and bake!! And they cut into perfect portion sizes for whatever you pair them with! I like to add half and half and cheese to fluff them up a bit!

It's a fun idea, but somebody else pointed out in another comment that Jordan was using a green spatula, not celery; using celery would cause the remaining cream cheese to go bad faster. Makes sense. But I would have so used celery to scrape the leftovers out of the bigger bowl before I washed it!

How to get your clothes soft is by using white vinegar in the rinse cycle! It removes any detergent residue that can make clothes and towels stiff or scratchy! And it doesn't gunk up the softener dispenser!

I never understood the American obsession with paper plates and plastic utensils. For us it's something you use at children's parties, because kids break dishes. But that's it. Barbara Filbeck I cook some breakfast sausage. Then in the same pan cook some frozen peppers & onions till soft. Throw in some eggs till scrambled I put the mixture over a slice of whatever kind of cheese I have. Wrap it in plastic wrap or eat it on then. If I want to eat I throw it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. It reminds me of McDonald’s!

Instead of using bounce dryer sheets you could also make your own natural sheets , In a large glass jar you add 1 cup vinegar I cup water and 20 drops essential oil of your choice , you add like 10 small cloth towels , and put in each load , just make sure you squeeze the excess water back in jar , and you throw it in dryer ,

I agree with using a more expensive clothes washing detergent. Clothes always look cleaner and brighter. Cheaper detergents just don't have the same effect. Also, yes, the little dollar amounts add up. I came from a frugal family who watched every dollar and was taken aback when I met my future husband's family. They never hesitated to spend $5 here or $10 there on material things that just ultimately cluttered up the house and had no value.
