I volunteer at an animal shelter in the Netherlands, and we often take care of police dogs when the cops who take care of them are on vacation. And honestly, police dogs are one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met.

I think we need more police dog videos, as evidently they're very popular and the more attention this channel can bring to the amazing work of NZ Police, the better informed and appreciative the public will be. And it's a great way to inspire people to join too; I think there are many people out there that would make great police officers, but they either don't realise it or are too intimidated because they don't actually know what being a pirihimana is really like.

I love police dogs ❤️ I see them often here in Perth at train stations and in the CBD on my way to and from work, I’d love to give them a good belly rub haha. My friend who is an officer (not in the canine unit though) has told me that people should respond to police dogs in a similar way to service/therapy dogs etc. Give them plenty of space, don’t distract them from their job, and if you need to approach the officer, just ask beforehand from a safe distance so you aren’t perceived as a threat. Police dogs are beautiful ❤️ their handlers are so lucky.

My dream dog is a white, female German Shepherd named Nuage (which means "Cloud" in French) but call her Nunu for short. I want to train her, obviously not fully as a police or military dog would be, but definitely enough to be able to track and follow instant command, as well as to protect if needed, along with other cool tricks. Also, it would be SO incredible to be able to meet and interact (obviously NOT as someone who did something wrong) with a police dog. I admire them and their training so much and they're just incredible.

And I thought it was only duty officers picking up the sh*t! (Sorry, bad Inspector joke). I must confess-I got in trouble by a dog squad officer one day. He was inside the hospital with his ute parked next to our ambulance. There was this feral grub hanging around this "No Public Beyond This Point" zone. Obviously didn't know the difference between a paramedic and a police officer. He asked the dog's name, I said "Rouse" (maybe a joke lost only on dog squad members), and he asked if he could pat "Rouse". I said "you might want to call his name first and put your fingers near the cage". A couple of minutes later I went in and caught up with the dog squad officer (a mate of mine). Doggie: "How's it going?" Me: "I'm good, but you're dog's not. I think he's trying to make a meal of some guy in the ambulance bay". After he checked and came back to call me all the names under the sun, we had a laugh about it. If you've read this far, let me ask you. Does NZP contribute financially to the dog's upkeep when they're in your care? Cheers from Brisbane!

@jessslife71686 жыл бұрын
Around 5 years policing and training a dog can take varying amounts of time. They’re raised through the development program then when they’re about 18 months old they will graduate their training. However the police also take non puppies into the program if they’re the right fit (this is less common though)
