This was great fun in a curious way. Seems quite worthwhile to me because you can’t take them anywhere else and now they are not cluttering up the boat. I really enjoy your sense of humour. It’s incredibly droll.

Looking back now it does seem rather worthwhile - but at the time it was chilly, muddy, and the batteries were heavy and hard work, basically taking up the whole day!

I suppose with battery recycling theres always positives and negatives!

Regarding the age old argument for pulling the trolley rather than pushing... I prefer to push it because that way I can avoid the worst of the ruts/mud/uneven bits. And also, I can keep my eye on the load to make sure it's not about to slip off.

I used to find it was easier to drag the trolley behind me. It halves the effort, but your handles have to be long enough. A lot of boiler busting hard labour today Johny, I work up a sweat just sending some moral support. You needed a good supply from the Aldi(could not remember how to spell Aldi, so went back in the vlog and turned on captions and subtitles, that gave me audi, just guessed in the end). We didn't have Aldi close to home in Oxford, well not 20yrs ago. One more chore sorted, I feel the fuse is getting shorter and shorter, but why worry, I enjoy watching a master handyman show me how to put in a kitchen or bathroom the right way. Thanks mate, and take care.
@ProjectNarrowboat2 жыл бұрын
Hey Phillip, the only problem with dragging the trolley is you can't see to pick your way around the ruts etc. I used to avoid the Aldi like the plague - now I make a bee line for it! £3 for four nice lagers , that Freemans Bay Sauvignon Blanc is pretty decent too (I always get the £6.50 one as there are two others). Foods alright too...

Hi Johnny,it was great visiting with you. I will say I would have moved my boat and car as close to the bridge as I could get. I might be a bit lazy, not a fan of back breaking hard work🫤 . You did a great job sticking with it.
@ProjectNarrowboat2 жыл бұрын
Hi Penney. By the time you untie the boat, then back up quite a way, which can be difficult (with boats either side), moor again (that clear bit near the bridge you are not allowed to moor anyway) then take the boat back and moor yet again (if someone else hasn't taken the spot) it would be a long winded option. Good to get rid of those batteries though.

I was out of breath just watching you JL, lugging those batteries around, bit like hard work hehehe, still very entertaining, hope you've been enjoying those beers, stay safe and well 🚢🚢🚢

Hey Diane, sat comfortably now, it seems well worth it, but at the time it was a right old slog which took up most of the day one way and another.

Good job Johnny, it was lucky you hadn't already stepped out onto the road when the van rolled backwards or that may have been a bigger headache than you needed. I wonder if the driver did a hill start on their test? Keep them coming.

I kind of heard it coming, which was why I slowed so much and lost my momentum. Unlucky timing for me!

I think I might of tried pulling the trolley as an option Johnny. Still, fifty quid isn't a bad return for something you have to safely dispose of anyway. I wish you all the best Johnny, cheers from Arizona.
@ProjectNarrowboat2 жыл бұрын
The trouble with pulling the trolley is that you can't really see which bits you are going through, and on this towpath I really had to pick the best bits.

Hi another good vlog just thought I might say that I normally get just over £10per battery at the place I weigh them in obviously ASM is not the place to take them

I did feel the price was a bit on the low side, but what can you do? I wasn't about to turn around and take them back and I didn't even know the price till I got back to the office :(

I never checked how they calculated it - I guess they allow a certain amount as plastic/acid and just assume a certain percentage as led?

Bloody hell young fella I can honestly say I was straining with you willing you get up that hill , stupid van in the way you should have rammed into them and told them to watch where they park, it will be sad to see you go.

Hey Stuart, I couldn't believe they stopped there. Loading stuff too I guess, road access is always a problem on the cut.

Hey Gary - those batteries were pretty heavy and it was a long muddy towpath, I guess once it's all over it is worth it once I'm sat down with some beer.

PULL PULL PULL You don't see the horses pushing the boats on the cut. There pulling them. Pull next time. CCHHEERRSSSSS
@ProjectNarrowboat2 жыл бұрын
Honestly! The reason I always push is because the towpath is narrow and uneven, muddy and rutted. You need to see where the trolley is going in order to avoid the worst of it. I don't think pulling up that slope would have worked either.
