My maternal grandfather is actually from a suburb in Zhongshan called Xiaolan. Since people there do not get as much influence from immigrants from all over the country, people there generally speak Cantonese, even the kids. I visited relatives there last year and heard my mom's cousin speak Mandarin with a super strong Cantonese accent and the hotel manager could not understand him even though he was a local (although that is because he is from the countryside). Even in the video I can hear the Cantonese accent from the locals, although lighter than my relatives

Yeah, it’s definitely sparked up the idea of trying to do more weekend trips, and just spending a day or two somewhere 🙌🙌🙌 and yeah the chang fen was definitely one of my favourites during the trip! And about time I got some desserts on video too 😆

Really shocking to see peoples choice to stare/gawk here rather than approach! I can't tell whether it's kindness not wanting to interrupt you and your girlfriend, a fear of the camera, or an uncertainty on how to talk to you, but it's so clear they want to say something! Even the young boys, who I found kinda rude with their giggling and keeping their chatting through messages; I think are just naïve and likely ran home to tell their parents they were disappointed to not have said anything😅😅

It happens even when I’m alone, mainly I think it’s because: they assume I wouldn’t be able to speak to them because they think I don’t know Chinese, and they don’t know English. If I’m talking to other people in Chinese, I’ve had many situations where strangers that were walking by, would stop to listen to me speak, and then would either watch, or come and speak to me 🤣🤣 yeah, the young boys, that’s boys being boys 😂 I’ll definitely be a topic they speak about when they go to school, that area really doesn’t have many foreigners, I think I only saw one other foreigner while I was there
