Very impressive. This video really highlights the reality of riding over difficult terrain and how impractical most so called off road bikes are for the average rider. Really eye opening. As far as I can see the main problem with the 450MT is it takes forever to get one.

Great stuff, Nathan. Chalk and cheese in terms of the bikes on the trail, and your recent coverage from the trip to Spain, but I loved this 15 minutes. You make so many valid points about the rider, bike, terrain etc etc. A reference for people to reflect on and learn from! Loved it!

When you see the others lads struggling on the smaller, lighter, bikes it makes you realise just how capable that 450MT is. I know you knew the best line but that was still very impressive the way it just ate up that climb without missing a beat. Looks like a lot of fun and laughter had by all when falling off all over the place!😂

Ah I recognise that trail, you came down there on the 400X. Not sure how it would fair up there with the Karoo streets, but it would certainly make it with a more 50:50 tyre. As you mentioned, a lot to be said for smaller and lighter bikes that are manageable and easier to ride than something heavier, such as Africa twin, 1300GS, 790 etc. Cracking little vid showing the trade off between balance, speed and grip. 👌🏼

Wow Nathan. Snapper lane is a blast from the past. Used to live in goodleigh so have done that trail many times. Snapper woods off Collard Bridge was an old hunting ground too. Great fun and very very silly at times too :) - oh btw deposit placed on the 450MT but I'd still like to take a look at yours sometime.

05:27 “the smoothness of a single”. I always thought a single was more ‘thumpy’ compared to multi cylinder engines, and that led to vibration? (Which was the reason I decided against the Himalayan 411 sadly)
@nathanthepostman
@nathanthepostman 2 ай бұрын
Yeah can understand why that could be a confusing comment. Maybe smoothness is the wrong word. Connectivity and feel maybe I should have said. A single like the Himi 411 is brilliant for feeling your way up tricky terrain. Almost as though you can feel every pulse of the engine through the throttle and back wheel. Makes it very easy to meter the power. I would say typically a twin is a bit less feelsome. Smooth, you're right, but not sensory control you typically get with a single. The CF Moto has that connectivity, and the throttle that gets a lot of ctiticism is perfectly gauged when on just above tickover, clutch out climbing. I think it helps having the cable operated throttle. Compare it to the ride by wire on the new 450 Himilayan and for me you get much more feel from the CF, the type you'd typically get from a single I guess. So perhaps the defining factor and what I probably should have described is the throttle action/response, which on the CF Moto is beautiful.

Loved that Nathan thanks, learned a lot from that video about how to use the slow speed and balance as an advantage on the trail (like watching a trials rider) My scram is ideal for its tractor like power delivery letting me remain in control of the bike. Just need to manage to stop the front end washing out on mud and adverse cambres (fear of it, more than it actually happening). love the Videos keep it going my friend. Don

Another great video showing the real trail riding in the UK. Gnarly and tricky. Just needed thebodd gate to make it perfect. Nothing like the manufacturer's promo videos. Loving the cf moto doing its stuff. Will you be getting the new Susuki DR in your fleet?

@nathanthepostman

Yeah, it was interesting to watch. Without momentum it really struggled for traction. Maybe tyres, pressures, talent etc, but it's definitely not a bike for the uncommitted or unskilled. A nice CRF250/300 would evidently be the easier bike to ride in those conditions for most people. But there does seem to be a trend in trail riding circles to push everyone onto enduro bikes, which I think personally is misdirected, as evidenced here. He was a better rider than the guys on the CCMs, but (the bike) made it look three times harder.
@nockianlifter661
@nockianlifter661 2 ай бұрын
@ After I did a day-121 -at Sweet Lamb, I found that a heavier, longer bike was easier to ride - 790 was actually better for me than a CRF250. These lighter, shorter and snappier enduro bikes seem to suit experienced faster riders, but not the average green lane rider. Of course the heavier bike is much worse if it’s dropped, which is what makes those competition bikes attractive to a novice.
@davidmatthews3093
@davidmatthews3093 2 ай бұрын
That looked fun. I was confused by your smoothness of a single comment. I would expect anything other than a 360° twin to be much smoother than any single.

How many times did I drive past that trail-start in my 15 years in BrFl? Didn’t have a bike then, but I should have walked it at least. Ah well. Looking at this film and wondering if my Innova would manage that climb.. it’s got the advantages of light weight and ‘dropability’, but very low in power - and no manual clutch-control.. Oh well, academic anyway. Great stuff as always Nathan. Still learning here! Les

unless you're standing it's sort of possible to slip the clutch - not sure how possible that would be off road though - I only using for coasting on hills

Track looks worse with the leaves too. Funny how the conditions affect the rideability of the trails. Question for you as a content creator. With a little imsonia, I noticed you put this out around midweek, midnight. Do you believe that there is an optimum day of the week/time to publish, or do you just bang them out when they are ready and let them do their own thing?
