Hey bro I would love to answer this since I have two cousins studying in the USA one is from IIT the other is from a tier 3 college( I cannot name it here). So it is very simple the kind of studies which IIT provides people often take it too lightly especially the ones who simp on US colleges my bro who did his undergrad from IIT say that for him a few masters subjects are a piece of cake not because he is a studious student( that is true) but because the kind of engineering related knowledge he received in IIT he said theoretical and core engineering related knowledge in IIT is way ahead it only lacks in research but the other thing is yes they respect an IITian a lot and even NITian (but NIT is not known mostly) the reason he gave is that he told that in IITs people have many perks such as summer exchange student in top universities such as NUS and NTU and even top Australian universities thus this provides the best all round connections and you can easily land a research internship under top profs around the world which is not a perk in a tier 3 university the reason is lack of these opportunities but there are few profs in those unis as well who are from these premier universities and thus they can help you build a research profile by asking their research mates in IITs to grant you an internship under them but for foreign research internships you really need to work your ass off my other cousin did the same he landed 2 summer and one winter internship in IIT Delhi and then he begged the research profs to get him to a foreign research unis and he was advise to write cold mails but with proper knowledge about that topics for which he is writing the cold mail which he needs to show as a proof to those profs of other unis and eventually he landed an internship. The other thing is he ended up getting into the University of Toronto and my IITian cousin landed in CMU, ETH, and berk he chose ETH. The thing is yes yes and yes they respect IITians and NITians a lot especially IITians because they are aware of top Indian exams such as KVPY, NTSE, and JEEs but IITian doesn't guarantee you a place in MIT for masters even a tier 3 student with hard work can end up there but in terms of respect yes IITians are respected a lot even in top colleges. You can't do an MBA from abroad without work ex. Even for good Mim programs, you need to have relevant internships/projects to be a competitive candidate. If you have good academic record then best thing for you would be to prepare for CAT Hope this helps. All the best!
