A Day Trip To Lanercost Priory

We booked a timed ticket with English Heritage for a visit to Lanercost Priory.
"The beautiful and now tranquil setting of Augustinian Lanercost Priory belies an often troubled history. Standing close to Hadrian's Wall, it suffered frequent attacks during the long Anglo-Scottish wars, once by Robert Bruce in person. The mortally sick King Edward I rested here for five months in 1306-7, shortly before his death on his final campaign. Yet there is still much to see in this best-preserved of Cumbrian monasteries. The east end of the noble 13th-century church survives to its full height, housing within its dramatic triple tier of arches some fine monuments."

Thank you again, Bob, Jenny, Poppy and Tara.. this looked a beautiful place. The music choice was also excellent. Seeing the baby was very emotional, on film and I think it would be even more so if we visit . Looking forward to seeing which Tranquil parks you visit. We did The Old oaks, 10 years ago, and last year we did Daisy Bank. Must admit, the Adult only parks do appeal to us more, these days.

I live not too far from the Priory and nobody slows down. The first journey in the new Defender I did an unexpected emergency stop as an approaching tractor decided not to move over. The one benefit of being a a local is I get to be buried in the Priory cemetery! There are also holiday cottages attached to the Priory if you don't have a van. Lovely to see something so close to home though I would have gone through Brampton. I still don't fully trust Sat Nag,give me an old fashioned map as backup . Guy.

Just thought I would tell you that we both watch your videos at different times and on different large screen TV's in different rooms-mainly because he's a lark and I'm a night owl. Why am I telling you this, because we both enjoy them so much, that I then make the special effort to go into our office and find your video, hit the like button and write you a comment...why?...because if you put in all the time and effort to film, edit and load up, then I can at least show you our appreciation for a great job so well done! BTW Hi from BC Canada to you both and a rub behind the ears to Poppy :)

Hi Bob and Jenny and pooches. Cant believe that your looking at the tranquil sites,we have just had a ride out to Pickering and came across one of their sites, we called in and asked if we could have a walk around with a view to booking a pitch later in the year and they said yes just had to give our name and contact details. The site is stunning set in an old railway station which ran for around 120 years and closed in the 50s. Thornton le dale is stunning had a great sunday lunch in the village ( dog friendly) We will definitely be booking a stay.

What an interesting place, thanks for sharing. Locals clearly drive like lunatics in that area! Was the motorhome opposite you at that campsite the same? Looked similar with the black cab and size wise too, was on a 20 plate. OK I'll stop being a motorhome spotter now! Look forward to the next trip :)

Hi Bob ,Jenny, Poppy and Tara :) never been there , it is very impresive. So sad to see the baby's tomb did it say who the baby was? The knight that was his tomb they were small people . Sometimes they have a shape space for his sword at the side of him i have seen open empty ones. Keep staying safe and enjoy your freedom best wishes.

Hi Bob. I am very new to motorhoming (I went to my first camp site at Castleton this weekend) and wanted to put my awning up on a hard standing pitch. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my pegs into the ground. Do you have any advice on what I need to do? Thanks Darren
@BobEarnshawMoHo
@BobEarnshawMoHo 4 жыл бұрын
You need to look for rock pegs, or heavy duty pegs and a good lump hammer.
