Gladyshev could be right, but I personally do not like all of the “not possible” coming from him in a science that is very young. The words not possible or impossible shouldn’t be mentioned. Great debate gentlemen!

true, but in the context of a topic as prone to wishful thinking as this, maybe a bit more down-to-earth attitude is also good.

It's nice to see a friendly debate consisting of technical arguments. I'm sick of people using ad hominems. I have legitimately read comments from people saying that effective medicine for the elderly can't happen because Aubrey's ex-wife has bad teeth. On a related note, I'm sure you can't be specific with the details, and that's fine, but will there soon be another LEAF-sponsored mainstream KZbin video? I'm thankful the big KZbinrs who make videos in support of rejuvenation biotechnology get a mostly positive reaction. Hopefully those same channels start treating cryonics with the same level of respect soon.

interesting, but ultimately think gladyshev misses things, perhaps because he's always been in a single field, that aubrey doesn't. nanobots will be able to deal, eventually, with things like protein folding, and intracellular waste generally, as an example, has a threshold. below the threshold it doesn't really matter, so you don't need a physically perfect system, you need a tolerably engineered system, which is what aubrey understands better.

@professorscambuster3063
@professorscambuster3063 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's about timeframes. There are scientists who think longevity escape velocity will be maintained indefinitely when all of the rejuvenation therapies needed to achieve robust human rejuvenation are created, but they expect the research will go slower than Aubrey and others think it might and they expect those rejuvenation therapies are nowhere near completion.

I think he's downplaying how ineffective geroprotectors are. Humans are already one of the most protected species on the planet so I'm not sure we could do more than raise average lifespan with it, i doubt they'd raise max lifespan. We should take both paths, though I think eliminating ALL damage is unfeasable we could at least eliminate some which could have benefit. Removing AGE crosslinks for instance, seems like a thing we could do that would have many benefits.

Why is no one talking about Li Qingyun who lived for over 250 years? (1678-1933) A recent and documented case of a Taoist adept who conquered aging with herbs and exercises including Neidan. He proves by his longevity that the answer to aging is not to be found in the laboratory or scientific studies. He practiced what can be referred to as "the yoga of reversal". (one description). The yoga of reversal (Neidan) depends on stimulating and activating the glands in the brain and creating new brain cells by chanelling base energies in the pelvis into more refined energies that are circulated throughout the body.

Over-optimism is a problem in the community for sure but we should also not fall into the trap of becoming too pessimistic either. There are therapies in development and human trials now which could potentially buy us more time and that means more time to solve these problems. I am optimistic we will make progress in the next decade or two.
