Appreciate that callout of how diverse the audience is and encouraging respectful and open communication in the comments and related communities. Many of us aren’t that into the geology, but it’s the culture of curiosity and learning that’s so refreshing to be a part of.

WOW! What a fantastic start to the new A to Z, I missed watching it live we were celebrating our daughters 21st Birthday. Love the colour scheme, new format and it's my first time joining from Letter A rather than when I joined in February 2024 and then went back to the beginning. So excited to be watching from sunny London, UK will catch up quickly.

Nick you have a reputation... Cause of the wonderful thoughtful ways you do and have done things. Every lecture is packed with so much good information. And it's done in a very human way. With a little on the rocks zing... And that's your flair you put into your work and play. I am sure the new format will be great.

Note that while the bulk of Siletzia was in the 50's Siletzia magmas and volcanic extend out in time after accretion to the 30's potentially overlapping with the Ohanapecosh based on igneous petrology that is orange with a sustained trickle of blue and green before Siletzia's hot spot magmas went quiet replaced by Camp's adakites in the Yellowstone Hot Spot story. I can't help but feel that overlap is important to that. I'm a bit disappointed we will not get the live interaction with the researchers that was the best part of these series for me. I hope you don't abandon those altogether as they shaped the series with the feedback from one leading and influencing the direction going forward. The thing about the zircons that blows my mind is that they can survive subduction and incorporation into the upper mantle and get brought back up by volcanoes even in the case of volcanoes far from land or active subduction, with ancient Zircons from Hawaii Reunion the Galapagos Rapa Nui millions of years old zircons mixed in with the young stuff some apparently as old as Cambrian age brought up out in the middle of the Pacific. Not as many as the young Zircons but they are crazy durable minerals.

As a viewer I really enjoyed learning about Geology 101, I listened mostly, tried reading some of the in depth papers and quickly put those aside. I was more into your stories they are informative and just right for my old brain, being 81, I watch itchy boots too, because I will only get to see other parts of the world and love what she shoots. I also did all the classes because it was covid and I was isolated, and am still isolated for the most part. even today If I go out among folks I get sick, and its too hard to recover from. I have health issues. so I would rather watch and listen to you nick than television. Now that the election is over, I will be seeking more interesting things to watch and learn from because I wont be watching the news, my nerves can't take it. I love when the geologists come on the show, I try to absorb it. Loved the lecture I watched from Jeff Tepper. that was so much fun. but I may not read and comment on the papers you put up but I like maps I like your colors and I still want to learn more about the cascades, I can't afford trips, don't drive very far myself, so u tube is my channel. I love going on trips with others via U tube. I never had teachers like you when I was in school. I am not a scolor. I am interested in real people and real things, I have lived in many places. Puerto Rico,3 years. newfoundland 3 years, Nantucket 3 years, the Island of Eleuthera 5 years, Hawaii 9 months, Montana 2 years, California 6 or 7 years, Arizona in a mining town is where I was born, Morenci, I love rocks and sea shells. YOu are my to to entertainment. did I tell you I am old. yes 81 went all those places with my Navy husband he listened under the ocean and could pin point the russian submarines. PS. if your wife does not want to be known or recognized please respect that! our own government is going after women today, I have been assualted since the homeless see me as a target now. I have been assualted by men. People are getting to be more viloent these days. I have even been abused by a doctor. in my lifetime, i could have listed myself as one of the me too campaign. we have to fight for respect. Please don't do it.

Your color series reminds me of how I was taught comparative vertebrate anatomy (shark, nectarus, cat) by Professor Harry Fritchman at BSU who chalked diagrams on a blackboard beginning 45 minutes to an hour before class started. Bakery ideas: Imagine a Jelly Doughnut made with a marbled (in the cake type) dough. Poke a hole in the top, and you have red lava coming out through the top. With a layer of chocolate frosting to represent earlier lava flows. Sigh... now I want one, but I'm in farmland south of Pocatello, and we don't have a great donut shop out here. Maybe if I raid the leftover Halloween candy I can get by....

On the nature of these Malanges... QUESTION: Assuming the inlier rocks were not all crushed when they were laid down... were they mangled and stretched only as they were smushed up against the N. American plate, or were they kneaded by plate forces elsewhere, say under the oceans? Perhaps both? Would there be a way to tell, like cushion basalt vs columns?

Go for it Nick. The adjusted format is a very good pathway to educate and inspire. As I've followed along these past 4 or so years, my mind rises to the 10,000 mile view of what is happening geo chronological across the entire continent. Erosion on the east coast, basalt flow in the upper Midwest and the entire west coast evolution combined with the Rockies. Might be a PhD project utilizing AI as a tool to map in motion.

Here's an unwelcome criticism. I wish you had used a rainbow scheme for your decades. Why? Because the break between each decade is so arbitrary. Things 8M years apart are joined and things 2M years apart are sharply segregated. If the point is to communicate, and educate, is that arbitrary segregation one that should earn emphasis? Again, I know that criticisms are rough, but there's a science to the use of colors. Maybe reach out to a few people who specialize in the use of colors and consider, now, at the beginning.

As a visual thinker, I REALLY appreciate your approach to organizing geologic timelines. I’ve recently started developing my own list-based approach to help me do the same thing for events since the breakup of Pangea, esp. in the PNW and more recently along the western Atlantic. It’s helped tremendously. Kudos to your ability to visualize!
