The Bills/Broncos game has interesting dynamics which is why its been fun to listen for insights about the match up. Regarding the Broncos defense and their ability to get pressures/sacks, when they faced the Ravens they did manage to get Lamar a couple times. But after that he was never really rattled. The blitzing for pressures will be a balancing act against a mobile QB like Allen since he's got enough experience to punish a team committing one less body on coverage. I also feel Brady/Allen will be targeting the Broncos LBs all day. On the flip side I do think Payton is going to test a Bills interior/light boxes with the run game. But also the Bills coverage wise have been susceptible with LOS passes. Which Nix has has been fine tossing those designed screens and maybe a Marvin Mims one can break for a chunk. But Nix can also attack the deep middle at the Bills safeties. It would have to be an close/ugly game if the Broncos want to stage an upset at Orchard Park.

It is going to be interesting to see how different the Tampa - Washington game is going to be. In the first game, they did what you said, running away with it early. But, it also was the first game. There is a lot of growth that has happened in the meantime. Since that game, teams haven't really boat raced this team like that. Will be interesting to see if Tampa can do it again.

You guys are really underestimating Joe Brady. He is really good at opponent specific schemes. He knows Denver gets pressure, and has great CBs. I think the chargers are well equipped to take down the Texans. They have the tackles to lockdown Hunter and Anderson and they have a great defensive scheme to attack Houston's offense. Houston's oline cant pick up a blitz or stunt to save their lives, and the chargers are the most efficient blitzing team in the league.

It puzzles me that folks think the Vikes loss in week 18 was the "worst possible time". Wouldn't the wild card round be worse? And the divisional round? And the NFCCG? And the SB? And if they lost in any time between week 9 and week 17 - the week 18 game would have been a virtual bye with nothing on it. Sam missed about 5 throws by a foot, and didn't pull the trigger on a couple more. Lesson learnt. On to the WC round. The last time Sam had a bad game vs the Jags, he won his next 7 starts. Also consider - the Vikes were on a 9 game win streak. A win in week 18 would have meant they needed to win an almost impossible 13 straight games to win the SB. Now they only have to win 4 straight - something they've already done 3 times this season. Write them off at your peril

Bills fan here - hard disagree on Broncos being the worst potential matchup for us. Not discrediting them but the Bengals would’ve been a shootout and our defense has sucked lately, one stalled drive on offense would’ve been a loss. Plus, in terms of the QB hits, I hate to admit Josh is a flopper but he will draw calls if he has to in that sense and he now has the pedigree where refs will give him those calls
@browneyedgirlgb
@browneyedgirlgb 14 күн бұрын
Agree. I think people are overrating the Broncos in this matchup. I don't worry much about Josh Allen getting points, regardless of the opposing defense. I DO worry about high powered offenses with great, experienced QBs who can also put up a lot of points, and Cincinnati fits that description. Although their defense is not good, Joe Burrow is more capable than most QBs of putting up a ton of points to match Buffalo's offense. That would have been the scarier matchup for me. I think the only way for a team to beat Buffalo is by being able to keep up with their high scoring offense. Bo Nix has been very good this season, but I have a hard time believing that a rookie QB, on the road, vs a Shawn McDermott defense who knows how to handle rookies, will be able to even remotely keep up with Josh Allen. We'll see though. I'm excited for hopefully a good game.
@dereklasker5350
@dereklasker5350 14 күн бұрын
@ I mostly agree but I do think the broncos could keep it close. The Bills DL has really struggled to get to the QB against decent OLs and Denver has the best OL in the league, so I could see them taking advantage of that. I think Denver kinda being strength of schedule merchants will offset it a bit but I could easily see this being a one score game

I don’t see it happening this way with Philly but important to mention Green Bay went into the playoffs last year in a very similar situation against a 2 seeded NFC East team with a great defense. And yes Dallas did have a great defense last year and was extremely well coached. Wide receivers have dropped too many balls this year in big moments to have a lot of confidence that they can do it in Philly, but you never know with how young this team is.
@justinrenaud4818
@justinrenaud4818 14 күн бұрын
Philly has too much star talent on offense to give me much confidence Green Bay can stop them on defense. They have to force turnovers similar to what they did to Dallas last year. Hurts is generally pretty okay at avoiding turnovers and it helps throwing to AJ brown and Smith against a pass defense missing their best player in the secondary.
@t4d0W

Cowboys defense even back then was overrated. Didn't help Shanahan style offenses smoked Dan Quinn's Cowboys coached defenses even in the playoffs. Middle of the field dig merchants were having their way with basic ass Cover 1/3. Eagles defense is too well rounded at the trenches and the way Fangio can play zone or man with his DBs. Hell they probably play man against the Packers unproven receiver group. The Packers receiver that could eat against the Eagles with throws deep at the middle is Tucker Kraft.

Key injuries in the secondary were a large part of that I think. Levi Wallace almost singlehandedly lost them the game against the browns lol, Riley Moss was also coming off a leg injury. Depth at corner and safety is a concern but otherwise they are at least a solid unit. Monster pass rush and a couple of elite cover players along with probably 3 average starters on the backend. Linebacker play is also average. D - line covers a lot of their deficiencies in the run game tho.

For the D-Line its much worse. Kinda hard to get a leg up on the opposing offense if the D-line talents can't win their matchups even when not schemed. Didn't give the Eagles receivers much of an opening.

Hey Brett I disagree with you take on the Ravens defense. They haven’t gotten massively better, they are just faced some lower tier offenses in the last 6-7 games of the season. Here is the list of offenses they have played this season by average points per Game (Week 18) 32, 19, 16, 31, 7, 11, 16, 6, 10, 32 (Winston in Cleveland), 4, 5, 6, 2, 21, 29, 15 (Week 1)

It is still worth noting that the Ravens pass defense prior to November were ranked near bottom in allowing explosive plays in the air. So for them to improve to about 5th~10th within the last two months by changing up safeties and DB roles along with being more simpler with coverage (more of a cover 1/3 team now) and not letting even poor passing teams air it out against them is substantial. They figured that out by January and are now stable against the better competition.

The Broncos are the team that very easily could win three road playoff games ugly. It wouldn't necessarily surprise me if they beat Buffalo 20 to 17. They're going to be a huge problem. On paper that is how the Broncos offense can win out by limiting the Bills offense possessions. Can it be executed is a whole different matter. But I do agree if it does, a close but ugly game is the way the Broncos can win out. They probably can't stop Allen even if they have a series where they pressure him well. But if he's not on the field to make an impact and McDermott has to coach his very flawed defense against Payton who has the guys to exploit them, it is a different matter.

There are metrics that show the the Packers run game is like top 10 in the league. But in terms of explosiveness and efficiency, Saquon and the Eagles are a whole tier up. In part also because Hurts designed runs also counter the issue if defenses just decide to load the box to stop Saquon. But also I'm still pretty confident with the Eagles dudes in the defensive trenches vs the Packers IOL for run blocking.

Not sure the Broncos pass rush is all it's cracked up to be when they didn't help the Broncos clutch up the game against the Bengals in what was a very important game against a team famous for not being able to put together a good offensive line. Also between the 6th lineman and the Bills working their FB into the game, they've been working in concepts the last few weeks that Baltimore usually uses, and the Ravens smoked the Broncos. The Broncos performance in teams above .500 probably not super inspiring especially since if they do beat the Bills their next stop is KC.

I think you’re a little too high on Denver. For all of Denver’s strengths, we’re still talking about a rookie quarterback going into a hostile, road playoff environment. I think the Bills force a turnover or two. Of course, now that I’ve said this, the Bills will find themselves down 10-0 in the first quarter.

Sean McDermott and a HEALTHY Bills defense is going to show Bo Nix the true meaning of being a rookie in today's NFL. First time in Buffalo, in January, with some of the most rabid fans imaginable. I think Buffalo will start slow, and gradually make adjustments until this one is out of reach. They've done it plenty of times this year, and even though Bo will blossom in the coming years with Sean Payton, I think this has a Broncos 1st round exit written all over it.

Also on that 14 sacks allowed stat that was mentioned, all 14 came from either T Dion Dawkins or T Spencer Brown. The entire interior line of Edwards, McGovern, and Torrence have not allowed a single sack all year. All with 530+ snaps played.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 15 күн бұрын
Even if the Bills defense is healthy they aren't scaring anyone in the playoffs. Their interior aren't exactly threats to stop the run plus the Bills live in nickel. So how the Broncos succeed on offense/eat possessions will come down to the efficiency of their run game overall. Which could also affect how the Bills offense wants to operate if they don't get ahead of Vance Joseph and the Broncos defense by the first half.

The players love Nick and play hard for him. Idk about all the x's and o's but he's a great leader. When things got tough last year nobody pointed fingers at anybody. He kept the team together. Also other coaches like Campbell don't call plays or are deep in the x's and o's. Sometimes you just need a leader who sets the culture.

Hortiz-Harbaugh are looking at the roster building with the same vision. Harbaugh values the trenches so he will do the complete opposite of what Telesco did with the trench talent in his tenure as Chargers GM. Plus Chargers can't be consistently stopping the run and trying to convince the fans Morgan Fox and Poona Ford are the answers moving forward.

I don’t really see what about the Eagles schedule is that impressive. Sure they absolutely do look like a much better team in the later half of the season but their conference was weak as hell besides the commanders who they beat by one score and also lost to by one score (minus Hurts sure) Okay they beat the Steelers but like is that really impressive? They should’ve lost to the panthers, the Ravens win is really all they have to tip their cap on and that was right before the Ravens D got it together. The rams win is almost impressive but the rams are so hot and cold you never know what rams team you will play each week. And early in the year they looked pedestrian. Just saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if they scrape by the packers again and lose to Detroit by 10

I just don't see Denver as nearly as threatening. Their stats might look great on paper, but they also had an incredibly easy schedule during the regular season and their only win against a "good" team was week 3 against Tampa. It would have been interesting if you had looked at their numbers when playing teams above 50% because I suspect that they are significantly worse.

Its not that they are that 'good' or their schedule was impressive. But its more like Payton (offense) and Vance Joseph (defense) are really in their bag coming into the wild card with nothing to lose. Especially if it turns to a mucky close game by half time and JA isn't as successful on the red zone.
