My family has used grapefruit juice instead of orange or clementine. It keeps the color on the publish red side of the color spectrum instead of the orange-red side. We also use 2c of water simmered down with 4 sticks cinnamon and 15-20 whole cloves. It was always non-alcoholic with ginger ale when I was growing up. This year we are spiking it, so i found your recipe, since it is fairly similar otherwise, to be very helpful in determining what and how much to include. I'm going to keep at least a portion of the ginger ale because it has that wa rm spicy finish. It's ok if it goes flat because it still includes another layer of flavor.

This works better with an ice block inside. Cubes are a joke as they just melt. Also the clementines are great for the juice but for presentation they sink and don’t look as good as large orange slices would. I also think adding a some ground cloves to cut the sugar and using cinnamon flavored vodka would bring this home for the holidays.
