Hey Brendan!!!! One of the best sleeping mats I ever had was an Exped Downmat9 bastard thing is full of foam and goose down for added extra warmth, it didn't handle the abuse I gave it but with your setup it would last a hell of a long time.... a bit on the pricey side but well worth it!!!! Bloody great run down of all the gear, the photo's looked great, can't wait for the vids!!!!

I can second that recommendation! I am on my second Exped Downmat 9 (DLX - the extra wide one, because I like comfort). My first lasted well, I still have it.. but I only use it on weird occasions.. I digress, it lasted me through five years of active duty in the army with a few deployments tossed in, and a couple of years of easier duty before the first sign of wear showed. A couple of years more and two or three of the "tubes" now create one big "tube" down one side. The mat still works, and I still use it. But I have bought a new one for camping. I would say the first one has lasted over ten years, with an average of 40 or so nights of use (maybe more - some years it has seen about 180 days). I has been available in two versions over the years. One where you used the stuff-sack to inflate, and one with a sort of pump built into it. Personally, I prefer the first version - for me inflating is faster.

I got the Nishua Carbon Enduro from your recommendations as well. Definitely the best Lid i've used! Visor change mechanism also the best I've used for a dual sport helmet! Also, Klim do a Transition lens for their Krios 2, unsure if it will fit the Nishua as well though

I believe that transition visor does fit. I agree, awesome helmet.

I have the Krios with Transitions visor. It does not work with the peak as you get darker and lighter spots on the visor which does weird things on the eyes. Riding with the clear visor and sunglasses now and love it.

Hi mate, always good to see mother ADV riders set up. I agree with your concerns about the desert fox fuel bladders. I'm on my second as the first one leaked fuel from where the nozzle fit into the cap. My first experience of this was fuel spewing out over a hot KLR650 engine to the north-east Arkaroola. Not the best thing to happen on a solo outback right. The place I got it replaced at no questions asked with a new one. However, I'm still not convinced they're worth the money. I'm gonna be trialing a 10ltr Ballard's jug on my next trip. Using gotcha straps I'm able to cinch it down really tight to my B&B luggage plate. Did you keep the canvas bag the desert fox split or is it still lurking in some South Australian bin? Living in SA I might go looking for it is those canvas bags can be pretty handy minus the bladder :) thanks of the videos might really enjoy them.

Gonna get a cobbler I know here in Adelaide to cover the nozzle hole and put Velcro on the top where I cut the stitching open to get the bladder out. Think it'll come in handy somehow. Might just pop out and check the dump for yours though 😉 gotta make your own fun here in SA 🤣

I've never had a shock seal fail before the useful end of life of the bike. Even my Telelever seals got scraped due to a freak of nature. If I were Nick Sanders, I'd buy a K1300.

Good stuff . That tailbag looks cool , is it waterproof? Liquid containment have some robust fuel bladders for a little less money. Do you find the sun coming through the big holes in your peak on the helmet annoying at all? Cheers

Water resistant. Its shaped well... I think it would take a dunking to let water in. No problems with the sun. I havnt noticed it at all. Do you?

Bummer , i need waterproof for my mototrips , every time it pisses down at least once haha. I've noticed when the sun is in a certain spot it shines 2 square shapes on my tinted visor and makes a little hard to see sometimes, haven't tried with googles yet. Might just need a little tape if it gets too annoying. Cheers 4 sharing sir.

I was using Earthmate that comes with my Inreach sat device and Craig was using Hema maps, so we went back and forth between them.

Boots are VERY subjective ( as in heaps of basically ankle support - as per your old boots ) I have used the Forma ADV boots for around 6 years - on my second pair. Have used them for Road, snotty off road , desert , on motocross tracks and never broke an ankle ( hit a hidden long once and did have a tender foot for a few days ) A fella on a 1290 ADV came on a ride I have planned and broke his ankle - he was wearing FULL Armoured boots like your old ones -Motocross style. I reckon because the boot didn't have any give so it as a SNAP ( that's just my option - as they say options are like ass holes and everyone has one ) . Prior to that he swore by them. But as I said its subjective and as I know you would be aware a lot of factors that come into play , as in the way you land , how you land , what pins your ankle in what position. Be interesting if they have stats on such a thing ? You trip was EPIC I also watched you little desert Vid , and know what you mean about one of the hardest rides you have done. " the sand NEVER lets up " it was the hardest riding I have done in 40 years of riding. I also have the same old ADV jacket as well. But have taken the sleeves off and just have body armour on under jacket.

Yes, I totally agree about "how you land". I am sure you can break an ankle in any boot if you try hard enough. I just felt safer in the sidi, but ive heard the newer sidi's are not as good.

They are 5L (but fit 6). I liked them, but they are not lasting. The plastic buckles have mostly broken over the years and 1 of the 4 I have has split internally. I'm looking for alternatives that are not crazy prices.

Im using a directional mic from an old sena or cardo. Those mics have a 2.5mm jack, so I have an adapter from 2.5 to 3.5 and them into the external socket on the sony. Changing from the old lapel type mic to this made all the difference.

I have the same knee guards....also love them, but if they bother you yo wear inside your pants, why not get some knee brace socks(30 bucks)? The $150 knee guards would last much longer under your pants....
