I think this was a fun concept to try. I think this really puts in perspective how people who do interior design actually think about design.

So appreciated the "my dad's not going to be able to get out of this sofa if he tried" - as someone who values enormously the way a furniture piece looks, I have learned the hard way, through a bung knee and ageing, that sitting on the damn thing for a bit and trying to get up again is a vital part of the try before you buy. I enjoyed this. Especially the shots of the formal, dated-looking politicians and bureaucrats arrayed along the Paulin sofa. They people looked like anachronisms, rather than the furniture.

A 70 thousand dollar sofa?
@brendanconlon82923 ай бұрын
I am trying to fathom it. If I was to play devils advocate, maybe, if this particular sofa was known to retain value really well so you could resell it. This is assuming you have no children, animals, clumsy people, heavy people, people who drink wine or other colored beverages, or any other kind of living thing that could possible damage it, ever around the thing. Honestly, a sofa has to be a worse retainer of value than a sports car, and those aren't exactly known to only appreciate. Even if tomorrow I became a billionaire, I would feel gross spending 70k on a sofa.

Damn I could have that $27k lounge which was plywood made for about $5k. It's beautiful but it is also very simple for a good cabinet maker to build. I've also seen fabric like that at Mokum textiles.

The Pierre Paulin sofa is very beautiful and a classic piece that became highly hyped designer market, I guess the price estimates are US auction prices since it’s not anymore in production I think.. Can not imagine when it came out in the 60-70 that it had a price of a small house in that time 😅in some parts of the world. I have 2 Pierre Paullin office seats below 600€ each in EU..which are beautiful on his own , only the hyped pieces skyrocket in price which is totally crazy.. Enjoy the video but from the title expect more design education around sofas.. Keep trying and testing new content, we like it

When I look for a lounge I go for a something that you just sink into and instantly want to fall asleep. I like that first one, it looks super comfy and it's the only one I could afford lol.

ya'll, in a luxury market, these price points DO exist. i have my own clients who've spent $30k on a sofa. now, the alpha, is also an ART piece & has it's place in history. so the price is not surprising.

interesting! While the videos on this channel are usually very serious, and I do see that as TLP's strength! this one was.... interesting. It kept me on my toes with the switch up in style. With that said, I do appreciate what TLP does well. The Art of the Maker series have been a very fun twist in the typical house tour format. But, my preference is not this direction. To each thier own and I think it's always a good idea to explore and go outside the lines as a creative and see how your community responds! So bravo for that!

My architectural thesis (as a US citizen) would be on how we systemically lost the dream of the revolution of Ray/Charles Eames and Frank Lloyd Wright bringing fantastic mid-century design and construction to everyone over the last half-century.

Some of these designers think highly of themselves. $12,000-$70,000 for a sofa? I don't think so. How many millionaires are watching KZbin?
