45 minutes into my second attempt to run the Welsh 3000s in under 10 hours I was hit by a devastating loss along the Crib Goch ridge.
I like to think that there was a guy at the bottom of the rock face, desperate for a drink.

So you're the one that dropped that bottle on my head! LOL

The cloud was nowhere near as thick as the last time I attempted the 3000s. But yeah, it certainly gives Crib Goch a surreal atmosphere when it's like that!

Hi Zhelyo! Thanks for that tip! I'm going to have another go in a few months and I'm going to go the way you've suggested because avoiding an extra 500m over scree would speed things up quite a bit I reckon (plus it'd take less energy). The only downside is that Crib Goch looks ace on camera so it would be a shame to miss getting the footage, especially if it's clear. Oh well, a small sacrifce to make for a faster time :)

Up on the Arans last year and my bag opened its self. Stopped to get some much needed water, NO BOTTLE. In fact no nothing. Followed the route back for over a mile found the bottle, not before also finding my sandwiches, coffee, waterproofs, first aid kit and fleece. Doh.

Be careful up there mate! Now you gotta pack out a bottle for every foot down from that elevation!

Better than jumping impulsively after it and watching yourself topple down! I've counterintuitively trained myself to react more slowly in such situations (e.g., don't snatch the moto or bike front brakes). Maybe sometimes I miss a turn I notice too late, but I also don't get rear ended.

Thanks, Dosed! Haha, glad you didn't lose your SD card. That would be much worse than a bottle of Lucozade. The resolution of the video on KZbin isn't very good so you can't see how impressively high it actually launched by the third bounce! I just hope it didn't hit anyone :P

Awesome video, mate! Small tip on speed if you're going for the Welsh 3000s - rather than doing the full Crib Goch ridge, when you come down from Garnedd Ugain, do the pinnacles and then get the crib goch summit which is just after the pinnacles. Then you reverse the pinnacles and you come down from the col between Garnedd Ugain and Crib Goch. It's a grassy ground which is approximately 500 meters shorter than doing the full Crib Goch and the North Ridge of CG, which is scrambly and has scree

Couldn't imagine walking Crib Goch in perfect weather, never mind trying to run it in fog.
@BraveDave
@BraveDave 3 жыл бұрын
Well, fog doesn't really make any difference to how easy or hard Crib Goch is. It's whether the rock is wet or not which counts! Also this video is over 8 years old. I've been up there in much, much more extreme conditions than this since then :P
@barrycrump6189
@barrycrump6189 3 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, it is not as bad as his videos make out - his lens gives a very false impression of just how steep and narrow it is. I have walked Crib Goch six times and it gets easier each time that you do it. Novice walkers should drop down to onside if it gets too hairy for them - it is much easy that way than keeping to the ridge all the time. I have seen families with their young children walking the Crib Goch - with the youngest being a 12-year-old girl and they weren't having any trouble at all - in fact all were very relaxed.

THIS HIT HARD BECAUSE THAT WAS THE *ORIGINAL* APPLE LUCOZADE WHICH WAS MY FAVOURITE EVER :'( I almost lived on it at this point (2012) doing nights in Tesco. They've brought out "Apple Blast" but it's the half-fat shit these days and it just never tastes the same (or provides the energy) :'( I'm not even joking I feel like I've just dropped my favourite pint glass or something :'( do you think it will still be down there at the bottom lmao

+AmurTiger Hah, I just Googled "Knee Knacker". A Canadian ultra-run! Well actually I could be training for it here because the Welsh 3000s is 26 miles of mountains, plus a load more at either end. And funnily enough I only managed half of it on this run because I knackered a knee :P No kidding!
@AmurTiger
@AmurTiger 8 жыл бұрын
Brave Dave I picked the run knowingly, I knew a few runners who did that trip. I know the trail conditions are likely to be less technical, elevation and distance seem like the same ballpark. Certainly would be a good thing to participate in if you ever found yourself on the wet coast. :)

+Tracey Ingham Thanks for letting me know what's at the top of Snowdon, Tracey. I had no idea. I've only climbed it about 30 times ;) Also, in the video I'm running away from Snowdon. This is because I'm doing the Welsh 3000s (as explained in the first line of the video's description) which is over 26 miles of mountains and I'd barely even started the run. So yeah, that 400kcal of Lucozade was pretty important.
