A Different Way To FISH | ROCK BLACKFISH

Normally anglers fishing for rock blackfish use the usual prawns, and bread for bait. They can be caught also on a number of other types of baits. Have you tried weed for this specie? it works well, less of the annoying species you don't want to catch, less chance of being baited by the multiple species that eat your prawn, cunjevoi or bread baits and its free! That is providing it is legal to harvest weed at the rock spot your fishing of course. Fishing with the lighter line is risky and requires some fitness to land these pugnacious dirty fighting fish.
Check out something different on this video.
Gear used:
• Rod- Daiwa Over There 109MH 7-15 kg 328 cm two piece
• Reel- Daiwa 5000 BG MQ
• Line- J-Braid Grand 15 to 30 lb or J-Thread Mono 15 to 30 lb
• ISO floats and float stoppers
• Mustard 92554NPNR

Hey alex thanks for the great videos! is there a specific reason why you'd sometimes use floats over sinkers or vice versa? is there certain conditions youre looking for? thank you! looking to head out soon

there are a lot of reasons why i choose float over running ball to hook rigs. one reason can be very rough terrain. Also using weed for rock blackfish works well ubder a float.

@AlexBellissimo
@AlexBellissimo 2 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching and apologies for the late reply. Not up on the ISO float range sizing. Small Surecatch float size of a x/l large grape suits just fine sinker weights vary by how much current/wash there is.

Hey mate, do you think there is much difference between the Iso floats and traditional luderick floats (pencil shape with the bobby cork just over half way up the stick)? Also what lb leader would you recommend. We use 12lb braid and 10lb leader for both luderick and drummer. I have however caught just as many fish running 15lb braid and 20lb leader. As for hooks I use the Gamakatsu panfish hooks (size 6 to 10).

Hey George Just showing something different. The long stem floats are more visible but the iso floats work great in from 2 to 10 m out.

@@AlexBellissimo mate I love the iso floats after using them. Less tangles and I'm getting a higher hook up rate. Alex, it be awesome to go for a fish with ya mate. I'm into film too so if you wanted a hand filming it would be a pleasure. Also would be cool if you used a gopro for the pov shots to give that classic angle of the rod bend. Anyway mate thanks for the good information 🤙

Excellent video, Alex and a good demonstration of winding down to a good pig and lifting it out - not an easy task and one which puts the line under extreme pressure - I'm old school with monos and keep coming back to Maxima Ultra Green and Schneider Klear - both tough, with just enough stretch and excellent wet knot strength. Love your work and your passion!!
@AlexBellissimo
@AlexBellissimo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank. A very common mistake when anglers do not wind down to the fish before lifting it up. And the wind down can be as low as 15 degrees at least when you have to do a lift of several metres.

Yeah i dont think so there is thousands of miles of coast line that people cant fish and rock fishing being hard to fish at the best of times i think there pretty safe.
@franksaunders6534
@franksaunders6534 2 жыл бұрын
Have eaten them over 50 cm and just under 60 cm - all have come up fine on the plate - depends on the condition of the fish, how you look after them and splitting the fillet if it's too thick. Some drummer are territorial residential fish but many move in from offshore reefs - 100 -200 metres out after big seas to feed on offerings being washed off the ledges. Don't think you should over do it but it's my choice if I keep half a dozen pigs. Many spots that I fish around Wollongong are as good as they were 20 years ago and the cave of a pig that you catch and keep is soon occupied by another pig. They say bream are slow growing too. On the east coast of Tasmania there are some great lagoons which are frequently closed off to the ocean. In one that I used to fish, there were a large amount of bream under 20 cm. One year later, those same bream were over 30 cm. All depends on the supply of food. Anyhow, what do I know....just have observed many things in my 38 years of fishing and have listened to and fished with many old timers with a lifetime of fishing under their belt.
