Rolland/Boss have a set up that can do this (lets you play midi), it uses a gk-3 connector and 13 pin cable. Also, if you're more used to classical guitars, Godin makes few nylon string guitars with the 13 pin input and special pick-up built in(Godin Nylon SE), but its way more expensive and you need a GP-10 or GR-55 pedal to go along with it. I have this set-up and highly recommend it.

It's funny how in terms of overall note duration and velocity (if you don't edit it further) you can definitely tell the difference between a keyboard midi controller and a piano midi controller. Also the chords people tend to jump to seem different between the two instruments, so it'd be interesting hearing more stuff produced with a guitar based midi controller.

I had a midi guitar years ago made by Casio but i couldn't get used to the timing, it just was never in sync with my playing so I sold it in the end. However I have since bought a Tripleplay pickup by Fishman for my Strat copy and it sounds incredible no more tracking problems, easy setup, lots of sounds too many in fact spoilt for choice, I can put it to so many uses both live and home studio.

As a long term MIDI guitarist, this is interesting and great for someone getting into MIDI. For me, with a stack of MIDI gear though I don’t think I will rush to buy it. David Griffin ...., Right ..,, This is sort of like ‘REINVENTING THE WHEEL’ (so to say). There are several different travel guitars out there . Putting a MUDI pick up on any of them could be what is needed.... But either way ,the item is still kind of nice , but only if it is low priced .other than that a MIDI pick up installed to one’s favorite guitar could be far better option. But it is still a very cute item. If it isn’t expensive I might still get one as little novelty , even though it may not be the highest level choice for me. The Roland options & others (Fishman Triple Play wireless MIDI pickup ... & other options .... etc...)

@@clydebermingham121 I have been Roland now for about 16 years, with a brief spell of Axon. Originally I had a Roland pickup on a Variax to get synth and modelled guitar sounds. Then came the VG99. Then I had a GR33, Axon and VG99 all running simultaneously. Later I dropped the Axon and GR33 for a GR55. All great for live performance, not brilliant for MIDI recording. A better route at the moment is MIDI Guitar 2 from Jamorigin. It's a software converter that takes a direct guitar signal and converts it in the computer into a midi signal. No fancy pickups, excellent tracking. Done. The downside, cannot split strings. But as a starting point, brilliantly

I remember when I first got an electric guitar, it wasn't long before I decided to downtune it to drop A. I thought it was really badass at the time, but the strings never stayed in tune. This video really needed some explanation of the down-sides of why this isn't a good replacement for a guitar. What kinds of things can't you play on this? Will it bend? Can you do hammer-on or pull-offs? Harmonics? I think that's some details that would be useful for consumers looking into that kind of instrument... because it certainly has a lot of pluses that you can't do with normal guitars.

@justinnaramor6050 Жыл бұрын
@@cajonaconaquetebotou No matter what MIDI guitar system you use, you are forgetting that not all of the expressiveness of guitar playing will translate well to MIDI. Think! MIDI really wasn't designed for guitars... it was designed for instruments with keyboard-like mechanics. There are things you do on the guitar expressively that are more like noise, rather than clearly defined notes. That just doesn't work with MIDI. MIDI needs clearly defined notes in order for it to work correctly, something that all keyboard instruments are already extremely good at. When you hit a key on that MIDI keyboard, it sends out a clearly defined MIDI note... there's literally no question about what note you just played. None. This isn't exactly the case with guitars. That's fine for normal guitar playing but won't work as well for MIDI. If you insist on using guitars as MIDI controllers, you're gonna have to stop thinking of it as being "exactly 100 percent like a guitar, period", and instead think of it as "a MIDI keyboard you play by pulling/pressing on strings". Of course guitar purists will scoff at this, but, well, that's a guitar purist for you. They're kind of idiots. They're too fucking conservative.

You Rock Guitar has had something similar to this for several years. It has a dedicated midi out as well but has touch pads under the fretboard and simulated strings on the neck but actual strings that you pick and/or strum. It is much cheaper than the Jammy and has no cell phone app interface but is pretty cool never the less. And worth checking out for those who are interested in a very inexpensive midi type guitar styled instrument.

I've been looking at the Artiphon Instrument 1. It has no strings. You can do custom alternate tunings, plus fretless mode, which is exciting. I use a lot of alternate tunings. I've tried Fripp's tuning, but I tend to work with tunings in a more Hedges way. Instead of sticking with one tuning, I have tunings that work only for certain songs. All of these controllers have issues as do regular old guitar synths. I had almost given up, but the Artiphon and this thing both look interesting. I'm just hoping that when trying to program MIDI I won't run into the MIDI salad problems I always run into with Roland pickup equipped guitars.

Oh, nice, caught this early. As a Jammy owner, I have a few caveats based on my experience to anyone considering buying this. My guitar mutes one of the strings without any prompt to do so, specifically the A string, and I have to play it like a pinch harmonic to make it ring out, which is obviously uncomfortable and annoying to do. Finger picking and regular picking rings out only if played very gently. This may be specific to my guitar, but this is my experience. Bends: The bends on the guitar itself, not in MIDI mode, sound robotic as hell and the electric guitar tone generally sounds like a synth trying to mimic an electric guitar, especially with bends, and sometimes when you come back from the bend to exactly the original position the sound will still be "bent". Also it doesn't always bend, and I find myself sometimes having to hammer-on the string to make the bend engage. It doesn't play smooth. Some notes don't register correctly and cut out, everything I noted earlier with the bends, and all that. You also need to set up just about every string in the app so it actually plays nice. MIDI mode: MIDI mode works nicely enough, however: Every time I plugged it in as a MIDI Controller (I use Cakewalk), it would crash after a few minutes and get a stuck note (or nothing playing if I wasn't playing anything at the moment of the crash), and I would have to restart the guitar (which involves a 15 seconds calibration period every time) to get it working again. As of yesterday, the computer doesn't even identify it as a MIDI controller, so I couldn't get it to work. After testing this again while typing out this comment, it appears that it works with the app now. The computer detects it, Cakewalk detects it, but it doesn't appear to send any information even though it sounds out on its own. Buyer Beware.

When a string breaks, it creates a new one with its built-in string printer. It automatically selects and ingests materials, then prints and installs the new string, just like magic. It's even got a demo mode... like this, I think... No, Jammy, No! Let go of the cat! Bad Jammy, bad, bad Jammy! We don't make guitar strings out of our cats! Ba-a-a-d Jammy! Here, try this a nice stainless steel spoon. That's much better. Need a little more? Let me look. No, Jammy, not my house key! Oooh, Jammy...

@Punished Aniquin he has some jokes. But I really got tired of waiting on the AK50 and he stopped his historical facts on russian weapons a while back. I still go for gun meme reviews.

You can change the strings fairly easily

That is really cool actually! Like you, I was sceptical when you first started talking about it. I can really see the benefits for use with a DAW. I might have to try one of these out, my keyboard skills aren't all that amazing either! :)

@@JammyGuitar It's super sketchy that you're prowling through comments on review videos to promote yourself. Just saying. I'm still highly skeptical of how cheap this thing looks and the price range. It's way too good to be true.

@@brainstewX It took a bit of messing around with string gain and string tension adjustment to get it to play right, but i also favour tap over strumming. Hands down the best midi controller ive used .

I bought one of those. I was never impressed with the on-board sounds, so I used it as a MIDI controller. I ended up buying a used Roland guitar synthesizer in the end though because it lets you play a real guitar with real strings, I can bend notes and use finger vibrato, etc.

A guitar amp expects a high impedance input, around 300K, like a pickup. Audio, like from a laptop or phone, is low impedance.

I deliberately chose to learn keyboards because synths all use(d) keyboard controllers so you could make any sound. But this one controller opens that whole world up to guitarists. It is possible to get an ok bowed-string sound from a keyboard controlled synth. A plucked sound even. But picked or strummed? No. For that you need the strings. Also a good horn sound other than stacatto trumpets is hard, and the accordion, human voice, pan flute and hurdy gurdy are too cool to simulate haha

Even though I don't actually DO guitar, I kind of want this gizmo. I'll bet one or two guitarists WILL find it useful for practice on the go, as well as for alternate tunings, etc.
