Tech details: I used two rolls of masking tape holding them apart in one hand while twirling the staff. Then I sprayed with indi ink thinned down.. you could also use a brush and any dark paint. Future videos will show how I groove the wood, several ways of coarse and fine sanding the grooves depending on the size of wand or staff. an angle grinder with a flap wheel is probably the simplest go-to...
then there's finishing...stain can be just a thinned coat of Indian ink wiped off the high points for contrast. Then a couple of coats of shellac... the top with globe or crystal etc can be done with a cast pewter star or flower shape bent to hold the item .. Or think copper wire arms glued into a hole on the end.
