My dad bought a used Mk2 in 1964, my mom hated it (me and my 2 brothers thought it was awesome). We had it for six weeks, of which four weeks it was in the garage being repaired. I remember going with my dad to visit it in the shop and we saw some incredible XKE’s there. Anyway my mom won, my dad sold it, and she got a new 1964 Ford Falcon. Little did she know that 6 months later she could have had a new Mustang. Thanks for the video and the memories.

Thank you! What an elegant car. Lovely colour, and I agree about that Moss gearbox. Such a harmonious whine, which is music enough so you don't need to switch on the Motorola radio. That air cleaner is another work of art. Please do a full hour on her... Cheers

Really enjoyed this, I totally endorse your view's on the sound of the Moss box, 1st gear coupled with the Jag 6 cylinder growl is a gem of a sound! I own a 1964 3.8, It's been converted to an all synchro box, Guess what? It's going back to a moss! I've got a mint low mileage moss box to put back in, My 3.8 motor is tired so a Big valve 4.2 out of an XJ S3 is going in on 2" carbs, Will be interesting to compare it to the 3.8, If it doe's a good job it might be staying in permanently! Back to the MK2 you drove, Odd that it's a 1966 with a moss box, All synchro's came in about mid 1965? Cheers, Subscribed.

I love that car Funny thing about that wining is that my mom has a half broken Citroen that sounds fairly similar and when I was younger I used to go to a lot of car shows and I’d see a MKII and hear the noise anyway when my mom would come and pick me up I would hear the Citroen and for one dreamy second I thought we had a MKII. 😂 oh well

Here in the USofA I owned a 1959 Jaguar 3.4 sedan MK1 sedan in 1963. I paid $1500 USD at the time. I believe that car new was $4200 USD. A fun car to drive and one of a kind in the era of large American cars. Maroon with black leather interior. 3 speed borg Warner transmission.

The whining means it needs a fluid change on the box. Should be done every 3750 miles. Tappets done at same time after winter oil change.

We always heard it was a bank robber's dream car, they could outrun the cop cars in Britain. So eventually several UK police jurisdictions started using the Mark ii.

A work of art , and with the lovely xk engine. The 3.8 could do zero to 60 in 8.10 seconds pretty impressive for the day and often used by crime members as a getaway vehicles and the police alike

What causes the sound of the whine in 1st gear pulling off? Of all models funnily enough, my 2004 renault clio sounds the same! I hope it's not from any kind of problem as I do love the sound!

Very true - why do people do this ? There's something about Jaguars that brings out the absolute worst in people ! In fact, I occasionally daydream of how nice it would be to build a huge bonfire of all those cheap, glitzy Moto Shita steering wheels, and put classic cars back with their right wheels. They just look so out of place; they never match the existing woodwork and the finish looks like clear plastic. Most seem to have a truly nasty textured-finish black plastic centre which would never have been seen on any car in-period, decorated with a tawdry badge that you wouldn't want on your key-fob, let alone on the steering-wheel. Add on some bonnet straps, a couple of chip-pans over the head-lights, bullet mirrors, a set of bonnet louvres coupled with those fake "Coombs arches" that stick out like jug-ears where they meet the door, obviously fit a set of too-small radials so you have a huge gap between the tread and the wheel arch, XJ seats with protruding head-rests, a modern radio spoiling the dash, paint it to look like a fire-engine - and you too can have a comprehensively ruined Mark 2 Jaguar......(not that I mind much, or anything.....)
@billolsen43603 жыл бұрын
@@philcopson3900 On a beauty like this, yes, go for an original wheel.
