Interesting that you say that you feel that you could use the Mk 2 for a bank robbery. Back in the day the criminal underworld loved these cars. They went like the clappers, handled well and stopped when they needed to stop. They were also very good in terms of space. Whilst the 3.8 had the outright horsepower, the 3.4 wasn't that far behind, still over 200bhp, which was pretty handy back in the day. One notorious getaway driver for the London gangs actually preferred the 3.4 litre mk 2 . He believed that they handled the best, so the 3.4 litre cars were the ones he always stole for his "job" as a wheelman for London crims. They're magnificent cars.

The S Type had the E Type rear suspension so handled much better. It's why the police preferred them. I recommend the 1967 Stanley Baker film Robbery. It has the chase between an S Type and a Mk 2 which inspired Bullitt. The chase is here on KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHKyiGSNeZidg68

My aunt had one, probably the 2.4, and on a hot Summer day in 1968 she drove me across Southern England from Berkshire to Devon in the days before our motorway network was completed. It was so much smoother and more powerful than any of the more normal cars I had been in up until then. And inside, it was just so luxurious with the smell of leather and the plush wood everywhere. I navigated with a roadmap on my lap, and she let me find the pretty route, rather than the most direct. Such a lovely memory of my childhood.

The 3.4 Mark 2, before it became the 340, had little, wood trimmed, fold-down tables in the back of the front seats. Same with the 2.4 and the 240. You couldn't really use them on the move, but they were fine for holding drinks while parked. Overdrive on 4th, which gave you an effective 5th gear, was an option well worth having. They would do around 130mph. For the 1960s, they were terrific. I grew up with them and was allowed to drive my parents' 1966 3.4 Mk 2 manual with overdrive when I was 18 and the car was new. We lived in Germany and 200km/h cruising on the autobahn was fun. Very nice car and easy to drive. We didn't have power steering, but parking was OK. This one looks to be in excellent condition.

I have lived in Canada since 1983 but grew up in the UK. The father of one of my friends in "junior high school" was a senior manager at a large cosmetics manufacturing plant and drove a Mk2 Jaguar. Most days I would catch a bus to school but there were days that they would see me waiting and stop to give me a ride. Wow! As someone who's dad then ran an older small Ford, riding in the back of the Jaguar felt like I had gone to heaven. Arriving at school then felt like royalty arriving at some kind of event. The car left a lasting impression and I would be sorely tempted if ever I came across a good one today, even though my new Kia beats it for everything but style today.

Gorgeous car - reminds me of one that a fellow owned in my remote northern Canadian town back in the '60s - it was a beautiful blue colour and the guy drove it for years, it was so unique and svelte-looking compared to the Detroit iron of the day. In the late '70s a businessman friend of mine visited relatives in Scotland and bought a 2.4 version of this car and then imported it back to our town and I was lucky to have a ride in it one day, lovely old thing and I often wonder what happened to it. I think personally I'd rather have one of these than an E-Type, it would fit me so much better and be so much more practical to own and drive.

My Dad bought a 3.8 MKII in Paris in the spring of 1967 before returning to the US. Silver gray with chrome wire wheels, red leather...a really beautiful car. My parents kept and drove that Jag for nearly 20 years...my mom's daily driver for most of that. An early memory was Dad cruising on the Autobahn on a Germany trip at 110 mph with my Mom and sister asleep in the back seat. Pure luxury, but it could cruise all day at those speeds. I learned to drive (and wrench) in that Jag and an MGB. When Dad was ready to sell the MKII, I didn't have a place to keep it and let it get out of the family. Parents and Jag are sadly long gone, but I still regret letting that car get away. Hope someone somewhere is still caring for it and enjoying it. Few saloon cars of its era could match the performance, or the looks. An M5 for the 1960's isn't a bad way to think of it. It was tough to work on, though. So much engine packed into so little space!

The Mk10 Jaguar saloon was a monster of a car. Largest saloon car in Britain when it came out, apart from a Rolls. Far too big and unwieldy to be used by bank robbers. Great as a luxury family car, but never as a get away car. The Jags used by London villains were Mk2s.

I used to have a black 3.8 Mark 2. It was a great car to drive I took it to the dragstrip and ran autocrosses with it and won many trophies with it. Not having Synchro on first gear was never problem because I learned to drive on non Synchro cars including an xk120. The only problem I had with the car was related to the Lucas electrical system. Half the time when it rained the car wouldn't start. After that is a fantastic car. Eventually I traded it in for a Corvette which I raced in scca and imsa camel GT series.

Terrific experience for you as a kid. What changed my outlook as a child was Jaguar XJ in 1:64th scale. I was at that bratty destructive stage, growing out of playing with toy cars and into the malicious phase. Melting the plastic ones, squashing the die-cast ones, etc. I'd regret it, but then break more. Then someone gave me a model XJ. Matchbox brand, I think. It was simply too beautiful to damage. Its stunning, gorgeous lines prohibited me from further ruinous spite. I kept the XJ for years and never damaged another toy. True, Jags have a glorious presence. Keep attending those shows, one day they too will disappear.

Thank for a nice video. Some small details, it cannot be both an MK2 and at the same time a 340. 1967 the MK2 became, 240 and 340, with the name change came some downgrades such as ambler instead of leather, more affordable wood and thinner bumpers, and servo assisted steering was never an option, but installed aftermarket on some cars.

Massachusetts, New England is similar to the country roads in England, except we have black tarmac on our roads. I never understood why Jaguar struggled to compete financially with Mercedes and BMW and other marques, when it’s engineers were innovative and just as capable of building a good sports car. I do feel though the Jaguar MK2 has been unfairly stereotyped as a car for bank robbers.

Jag, Jag-Waah? Jaguar. With the attractive sweep of the C pillar to regale the eye, and a dashing colour to enliven the spirits as you approach. The walnut will need some care when parking in a harsh sun, as we all now know. Comfortably plush seats and carpeting throughout. For this vehicle I would expect nothing less than disc brakes at each corner, and perhaps the true delights of a fully independent rear suspension, maximising on the lightweight chassis, to give a comfortable but very controlled ride. With the large wheel in your hands conjoined with the lightweight aluminium engine, the steering is always a breeze, even when at rest. With Jaguar's racing credentials evident in every direction of the car, the pedigree is not wasted for a moment, with its graceful lines announcing itself as a show-off.

The speedometer needs some attention - maybe the cable needs replacing. Also, on ordinary highway driving you can easily go 1-2-4 in the gears, using 3rd gear for either extra overtaking oomph or slowing down! Anyway, I am extremely jealous!!

Great review of a MK2 mate, Liked and subbed 👍 I'm in the UK and am the proud owner of a 1964 3.8 MK2 manual O/D on wire wheels, It was shipped to California when it was 6 months old and bought back to the UK in the mid 90's and is rot free! It was originally an auto but someone in the states did a manual conversion so it now has an all synchro gearbox. MK2's just drive great and i love the mechanical whines that go with them, The XK motor always reminds me of an aviation Rolls royce merlin engine in a funny sort of way! It's just grunty and sounds great when it comes on the cams 👌

Got one here in the uk as a restomod project. It's going to run a straight six 3.0ltr turbo diesel at 400bhp...before people go nuts, the original engine was missing and fuel here is super expensive compared to the US.

My dad had a series one Mk2, that the previous owner decided was too slow, so he painstakingly extended the front by nearly 20cm, in order to squeeze in the engine and gearbox from a E-type V12! It drove amazingly, but it was a nightmare to do maintenance on, with one carburetor and two spark plugs basically inside the firewall, along with the general complete lack of any space to work around the engine.
