Neiv Gabay I did say most :P But I did forget about Domino's (and Pizza Hut for that matter). I wouldn't exactly say that either are "going strong", just comparing the number of branches they have to the number McDonald's has. I also probably forgot about them since I keep kosher and they only have one(!) kosher store so in my head they don't exist. They are definitely hanging on though, especially with the shabbat delivery crowd.

The vegan donut shops I've seen generally don't pretend to be healthy for you, and vegan definitely doesn't automatically mean good for you, unless you're an animal, ofc, which is the actual point. Not to mention that it's not that hard to make a vegan donut just as good as a non-vegan one. Then everyone wins. GF donuts on the other hand are definitely going to taste/feel a lot different.

Like why are Doughnuts called doughnuts if they are not nuts? This may be offensive to the squirrels
@CapriUni6 жыл бұрын
In the earliest form of the recipe, they were small rounds of fried dough that were shaped kinda like nuts -- and after frying, the crust was crispy, and the inside, soft -- like a nut inside a shell. So they were "dough nuts."
@Naiadryade6 жыл бұрын
The first doughnuts weren't shaped like they are today, they were just little fried balls of dough around the size of a nut in its shell. There were earlier, hard fried cookies that were also called nuts, so when people started doing that with a breadlike dough, they called it doughnuts. Here's the video where they cook an 1805 doughnut recipe where I learned this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g17bqIN_jM12fMU

I'mma make something up: It's a derivation of dough naught. Naught being an old fashioned word for "nothing" or "zero". It's fried dough that looks like a zero. ( The small dough ball a.k.a. "nut" explanation is actually correct, but mine sounds more fancy)

That's the same way I feel about most pastries in general. It started out with this anime called "Yakitate!! Japan" and how they showed that croissants are supposed to have layers. I usually didn't care for croissants, but I tried one again and, lo and behold, no layers. So I spent a Saturday making them myself properly and, surprise surprise, layers, but also it was delicious! So I basically promised myself from that point on that if I'm having any cake or pastries or donuts and I don't love it after the first bite, I'm just not eating it. This is my Skinny Hank.
