A durable springer for an amazing value! | XYL KM9 Unicorn REVIEW

The Unicorn is a blaster with an interesting background. A little while ago, XYL enlisted some help to fine-tune their debut foam dart springer. After breaking some parts and giving some feedback, they released a quality version of their blaster that we knew we could confidently sell on the shop.
This thing is a durable, injection-molded nylon springer, with metal components, slam-fire, and first-party upgrade options, making this a great option for many foam-flinging enthusiasts out there. Let's talk about it!

I've been very pleased with my Unicorn from OOD. I added the heaviest recommended spring and the longest barrel. It's a terrific CQB springer. Note that you can use Nerf stocks upside down too on the handle attachment point to adjust your eye line on higher stocks like the Raider.

That lower stock configuration is usually used by SWAT teams when they use visors so it doesn’t conflict with the visor

Seems perfect for CQB. Compact, comfortable ergo, easy prime and slam fire, plus since engagement ranges are close it being under the typical fps rating by about 10 isn't that big of a deal breaker in stock form

bought mine back in July, love it. The stock collapses very easily now though because the locking lug rounded out a little, so I had to put a small metal pipe on the metal rods to keep it from collapsing when shouldering it.

That's a really good idea I never thought about that! My stock failed in just a couple days.

We have thoroughly abused some of our own blasters in the warehouse and haven't yet been able to replicate the problem. I busted my lip recently from my unicorns stock collapsing Granted the unicorn itself wasnt bought from you guys but a fix to the collapsing issue would be awesome I saw on reddit home depit rods or just filing down the out of the box stock rods Speaking of stock rods, do the unicorns that come with blue stocks rod have any difference to the titanium colored ones? Mine is titanium colored and only has notches on one side of the PDW stock

Definitely love mine. Got the metal kit from blackresin a few weeks back. It alows a longer spring with all metal internals. Definitely worth it.

I absolutely love my Unicorn. I've never been one for a CQB but I figured this is a good blaster to get in on that play style. After my first war this past weekend, i couldnt be happier with my purchase. Can't wait to try it out at an HVZ!

Just a heads up for anyone buying one. The stock uses aluminum bars while the catch tooth is a stronger metal. This caused the tooth to gouge the grooves where the stock locks making it collapse instantly with any bit of pressure. Im not the only one who has experienced this so far, mine failed in a couple days.Tried filing the notches deeper with no luck. Will probably have to swap the bars for steel ones instead.

@@outofdarts Thanks for the reply! I have a feeling I know why mine failed and another member as well. We are both left handed shooters. This causes a different uneven pressure on the stock than a righty would cause. In this case it pushes more pressure on the catch tooth. Appreciate your great customer support! Unfortunately mine was purchased through M416gelblaster.

Hi, I added the 1.8mm spring and not able to prime using the stock prime grip. I added lube on priming area but still not able to improve the priming. Is there any suggestions to make the priming works with strongest spring? I do not want to add on the lengthen kit as it will defeat the purpose of this compact blaster for CQB.

Between the Worker Seagull and the XYL Unicorn, which would you say a beginner like me would have more fun with?

The km9 unicorn has more options for how you want use it and is very small but if the seagull is anything like the harrier its gonna be very user friendly and will be more likely to survive abuse

Are there any sling point attachments available?

The grip that comes with it is a pretty convenient place for a one-point sling from personal experience. However, if you want a more traditional sling point at the top of the blaster, you would probably want a picatinny sling mount like the worker one we sell on the shop.

The S200S Viper hasn't come in translucent and orange to my knowledge. You might be thinking about it's predecessor the S200 Fire Rat, which has been discontinued from our shop.

Seagull doesn't have a usable stock out of the box, is heavier, looks more firearm like, and doesn't have picatiny rails by default except through preorder.

It looks like a good solid blaster. It also looks unoriginal and no different then the 10 dozen or so half length dart springers out there. I'm just saying I can't get excited for what i feel is the same old blaster over and over again with a slightly different configuration. I know to an extent that the hobby has always been the same thing over and over but it used to be spread out over every type of blaster and spread out over multiple ammo types and gimmicks, now it's just half length dart blaster after half length dart blaster being made.

I really dont get return spring on pump action, WHO let go off their foregrip? thats so counter intuitive. Bolt action and.. top prime(for those 3 or 4 dude whom still uses it) are the only logical choices for a return spring
