I have two young kids and decided to take them to the toys I went to as a kid. It was absolutely depressing. And this was before the closures were announced. My son wanted a hotwheels car and my daughter a new barbie. Well guess what? All the toys they wanted were sold out and the shelves were stocked with star wars crap. My kids are too little to understand and began crying when the lady told them they weren't going to be restocked any time soon. Then she tried to force star wars crap on me, which my kids had zero interest in. We left empty handed.
@LadyCoyKoi6 жыл бұрын
You have better luck finding Barbie and Hotwheels at the local dollar store than at Toys R Us. I know the dollar store brand of Barbie and Hotwheels are bootlegged, but your kids would still love those toys better than the overpriced Star wars at Toys R Us. Best thing about dollar stores though. You can tell your kids they can each have any ten toys they want. I bet you they would feel like it was Christmas. My mom did that with me and my sister. It was 1990s and the dollar stores back then didn't include any taxes, so my mom told us $20 for each one. We were like "Christmas is here!" LOL Fun times.

Exactly when my local tru started their closing sale it started at 10% no one is going to buy $150 toys for wow $138 lol. This dude hates star wars and thats fine its whatever but at least give the full details. My local target had star wars black figures on sale for 6.99 and got cleaned out. Yet all the 9.99 marvel legends guardians of the galaxy toys are still shelf warming hard at half price. $9.99 including iron man. He can blame sjw all he wants but what it all comes down to is oversaturation of bad toys. Kids dont play with toys they play Minecraft and roblox and fortnite. Toys are mainly bought by collelctors now. Most toys that sell are cheap toys for younger kids who dont give a shit about much other than is it fun is it bright but oh yeah its the sjws lol
@awesome12323246 жыл бұрын
BrainFr33z3lasers it is though, sjw isn't completely responsible for poor sales of SW toys but it is maybe like 95% at fault. All the characters in ep7 and 8 are lame as fuck, I'm laughing at the fact that they made a rose figure xD

The toys themselves aren’t even good like they used to be, back in my childhood hasbro sold fully articulated,fun and interesting stuff. But when Disney bought the license I started to notice when buying my kids toys how much of a downgrade in quality they were, 5 points of articulation instead of the usual 14 back in the day, weaker more brittle plastic and thinner, shittier paint. I have an old Boba fett from ‘95 and that things been through war that was my child hood and paint and articulation are still pretty decent! Oh and here’s a funny story about these toys and my daughter, so I took her to a target and told her she could have any any action figure she wants, and of course she goes to the star wars section starts looking for something. She stops, turns to me and says “Where’s Luke and Han and Leia?” So I tell her that those ones are sold out and she can have Rey or Finn. She stops, looks at me and says “They’re boring!” And walks off to look for LEGO Star Wars instead. I nearly died laughing at my 7 yr old in a Target! Ps. Ended up buying her a lego millennium falcon from TFA. When she built it she looked at the Rey minifigure and sang “Rey, Rey go away.” And threw across the room, picked up a lego Han Solo put him in the cockpit with cheeks looked at me and said “Now it’s better!” 🤣

You know what is sad really? There was a time when it was hard to keep Star Wars toys on shelves. Hell, even in the late 1970s, they had to sell certificates in order to guarantee kids would get those toys due to the over-demand of those products. Now sadly it is as we have seen in these videos all because of political nonsense.

He is still willing to pay top dollar for rare hard to find sets from the prequels and who can blame him? I'm glad folks are starting to appreciate that trilogy at least and I guess that's the only thing I'm thankful for now. Thanks Disney for making Lucas look good again.

Disney didn’t make Lucas look good, it’s just that now all the 90’s-2000’s kids who grew up with the Star Wars prequels are now adults or teens at the youngest, so their voices are heard a lot more, whereas back in the day when the prequels came out most fans were kids who watched the originals in theaters or on vhs. Those old adults are now in their 40’s (or as old as 60’s if they saw in theaters.) You don’t see as many older fans online as you see younger fans from their 20’s. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who likes the prequels now who didn’t already before or anyone who used to fervently hate the prequels suddenly doesn’t hate them anymore. I think it’s just a coincidence that the Disney films popped up around the same time that the prequel kids became young adults or old teens, so that opinion gets voiced a lot more than it used to.

No-one's learning to appreciate the prequels apart from simpletons who take youtube vids as gospel and allow seemingly popular opinion to sway them., disney funded a load of videos trying to change common perception of them in the run-up to the new films. Hipsters and scene kids and wannabe nerds jumped on the bandwagon. The last 3 films were horrendous. the 3 before that were too. so were the special editions back in the 90s.

They've been overpriced on much of their stock lines for a few years now. When you're teaching your children about value for money, buying online is cheaper. Lego are partly to blame given the expense of their toys. Toys R Us won't be the only toy stores that go out of business. We have 'the entertainer' toy stores in the UK and they're just as expensive. The sad case is the job losses across the world. A lot of these companies don't have a second thought for the employees.
@gordondavis61686 жыл бұрын
The toys for the new Star Wars films were crap. The original trilogy and the prequels produced a lot of Star Wars action figures of droids and aliens. Very few action figures were released for force awakens and last Jedi, and the only action figures were of Rey, Finn, Poe - boring. But then the new films have been visually boring with no good aliens, droids, ships, etc. I mean come on, try comparing maz kanata with the old greedo or hammerhead.

When the original trilogy was out (and the SW toys were in shops in the UK) the most expensive toy was £30/£35 (the AT-AT), the millenium falcon was £25, and the figures were £1. This was when the crazy sales were happening ..and notice there was no 'over pricing' of the toys. The pricing today (for what you get) is terrible compared to the old prices (even taking into account inflation etc). If all the unsold toys were repriced $100 or less stuff would sell better (the basic figures should be $1 :) However, the market for the new film franchise just doesn't seem strong enough at the moment to sell well anyways (children didn't take to the movies, imo). They frankly took all the magic away and replaced it with 'senate politics', just what kids enjoy watching ..perish the thought they enjoy escapism, fantasy and strong definitions of right and wrong in their films.

I actually miss Disney Infinity. It was a great concept and had a growing community of creators. The figures were fun to collect (although the normal $15 price tag was a bit much) and they were well made (no paint blotches or bent arms). Disney canceled all support of the game a few years ago because they didn't want to make games in-house anymore. A really, really bad decision as the game was taking off!

This is really sad. I thought I was the only one noticing that no one really seemed to buy anything, but I never knew Toys R Us was going out of business entirely. I remember that feeling when I was a kid where I'd walk into a Toys R Us and get all excited and jumpy and sprint to the Star Wars or Lego section. I thought I would never feel this feeling again until my dad showed me a little store around 50 minutes away from my house called A to Z Toys, and when I went in I got that feeling again, except I couldn't run and jump because the store is packed to the brim and the shelves go up to the ceiling with merchandise. Its a little store packed full of old second hand toys from all brands (Especially Star Wars!!! Good Star Wars!!!) I found numerous toys I could never find or afford in stores when I was a kid there, and every time I go in there I go nuts buying stuff. Only problem is is far away, and I only am able to go 1-2 times a year, and the store owners are rarely there. I never thought I would live to see the Star Wars merchandise fall.

I don't blame Rey as a character, or Daisy Ridley either, for the failure of "Star Wars". The real core of the problem is SJW ideas being forced (pun fully intended) into a franchise that previously had none of it. Lucas sold his creation to Disney, under the belief they would be good stewards of it. And like most fans, I thought it was a match made in Heaven at the time. I actually enjoyed "The Force Awakens" a great deal, but "Rogue One" was almost completely pointless...and "The Last Jedi" is by far the wort film in the whole series. I would rather watch the Ewok movies on repeat, than sit through "The Last Jedi" again.

19:10 29?? Jesus Christ, dude, I was a freshman in high school when you were born... :-P For me, at the ripe old age of 45, I remember when Toys R Us came into existence. There was one location in Rockford, and it was like a 45 minute drive from where I lived. That was built right after Target had come into the area, and where I bought a few of my Transformers. The amount of different toys and figures was ridiculous, because, up to that point, we had to go to small hobby stores, and their main interest were model cars, planes, and ships, and the big diorama stuff. Tanks in blown out building, soldiers, that kinda thing. My dad didn't like Toys R Us, because, he was big into toy trains, and they only carried cheap, plastic crap. :-P Anyway, thanks for making this video, and showing the bigger impact of what horseshit political agendas can do to real brick and mortar businesses.

Disney is creating themed hotels and "worlds" for their parks and were afraid too many people would show up, thus making the Star Wars experience less enjoyable. Their solution is to turn off a portion of the fans, thoroughly disappointing them, in hopes that the crowds will be more manageable. It's the only explanation for why they would run the franchise into the ground - short-term. They would also like younger families with kids to go to their parks, and not older folks in their 40's and 50's. Hence, Star Wars Rebels was/is a resounding success, and anything that caters to the older saga has been sabotaged to fail. Either that, or, The Least Jedi just sucked. :)

Kids never cared about ethnicity, nationality, gender or sex. Kids were just kids. I recall boys playing all of the Power Ranger characters. There wasn't a question about being gay or transgender bs or the like. Kids were just acting out. It was the adults that made a huge deal of it. Shoot I recall play acting with my sister Beauty and the Beast. It was our favorite movie and we took turns acting out either as Belle or the Beast. My guy friends play acted TMNT and they let me play as Rocksteady, because he is a favorite, occasionally they also let me play as my favorite turtle Donatello. For my friends and I there wasn't a gender/sex agenda or whatever like poor kids have today. It was just us having fun. Again, it was the parents fear that ruin everything. Remember when video games had no ratings. It wasn't till Mortal Kombat came out for SNES and Sega that parents freaked out and started to banned games thinking it would encourage kids to be violent. For kids it was just a game. For adults it was a political agenda to force their conservative bullshit beliefs onto everyone else. Kids today aren't allowed to discover their own identity for themselves... it is either the Far Right or Far Left forcing their own personal agenda onto these poor kids that is causing the confusing. Let them kids alone!

You know, I gave this video a thumbs up because I think you do a good job making these videos, but I think I’m depressed after seeing this one! 😞🇨🇦

I worked for Toys R Us (UK) for two months over the Christmas period, and it's by far the worst place I've worked. The interview process was extremely rushed and not once was it mentioned my placement was temporary - so I assumed it was a permenant position. It was my saving grace that it was temporary tbh. They never told me my role either, so I was dumped on the tills with a 'supervisor' with me for like 45 mins, barely training me since I'd never worked on a proper till beforehand. After that they left, and told me if I needed them to tannoy since they had more important things to do - other than train me or even show me how to use the fuckin tannoy. I was also on £5 per hour and never had constant hours, told the day before that they wanted me in tomorrow, like I didn't have a life outside work lmao. It was the most miserable thing I've ever done in my life, since they left me at the till with no information, I could never help customers and they never showed me any of the sectors of the store, so they were disgusted when I asked for help or when I asked where something belonged. Whatcha do?

I dont think it was the Identity Politics. For me its just a bad story, plain and simple. I have 6 yr-old godson, and we went down on the Star Wars section. I asked him if he wants a Black Series Rey, and he said no. I asked him why, and then he said, "she doesnt do anything." We end up buying another Black Series Stormtrooper, said it was for his army 😂😂😂

Funny enough, the fact that Rey was a female was never the reason he didnt want her. For him, she just didnt act like a hero.
@THEremiXFACTOR6 жыл бұрын
That's true, she doesn't do anything. In their mission to make her completely without fault they've actually ended up making her bland and passive.

Eli Alivar Yeah she didn't act like hero 'cause feminism, hard work is for the patriarchy.

People blame Amazon (who I work for) but it started with WAL MART and TARGET having toy sections selling the same at lower prices, fact is TRU had online shopping for toys before Amazon did.
@CallMeMrRook6 жыл бұрын
i used to blame the likes of Amazon, and their rise. But now i blame the consumer and the toy companies, consumers are fickle and the toy comps greedy by expanding outlet channels because they want bigger slices of the cake.

I also blame on the rotten economy in the United States. The economy has been going down; it's never got imporved for over 20-30 years.

Actually, it was the idiotic decision of Toys "R" Us buying back all it's stock shares in 2005 thus incurring 5 billion in debt in the process that did them in.

CallMeMrRook I blame Hasbro and Mattel for buying every competitor and easily pandering to adult collector instead of making kids toys.

Edward Antonowicz Indeed, Ragen did a lot for removing regulations which been brought back and doubled.

They targeted nerdy adults too much. Sadly, because the film sucked they lost that audience. So they were left with toys which were too expensive for parents to buy.

The basic blade builders sabers are crap compared to the basic sabers from a few years back. The blade builders don’t have a switch/button to keep the blade extended or retracted, the tips of the blades had a hole in it that makes a whistling noise. Disney Infinity was actually a very fun game, the story modes were a little lackluster, but the main attraction was the toy box mode. You could make any world you wanted and have any character in it. Want to have Iron Man and Darth Vader have a fight on a pirate ship, you can do it. Sad to see Toys R Us going away.

I said it before, but the "Forces of Destiny" dolls and other (select) 12" figures should've been targeted towards the Barbie crowd. Just imagine the possibilities: Ken and Poe fighting over Barbie, Rey saving Ken from Kylo Ren, Kylo Ren stealing Barbie from Ken LOL (Yes, my Barbies were THAT catty...). $99 for a toy your 7 year old will trash in a day or two? That's a week's worth of groceries, or an electric bill for many families these days.

With the death of ToysRus will come the rise of small mom and pop shop toy stores. And that will be a good thing.
@logenvestfold41436 жыл бұрын
Depends on the age and social demographics of buyers. More and more smaller toy stores and hobby shops are popping up in my town. What this does is breaks up the demand. Consumer electronics will be a demand at large retail stores. Traditional toys will become a niche thing with certain toys like action figures and dolls going to toy and comic shops. Stuff like Lego and Lincoln Logs will go to hobby and craft stores. And collectables will be found online, and occasionally at FYE, Barnes & Noble, and smaller novelty shops that cater to collectors.

As much as I wish you were right, you're not right about a rise of Mom and pop shop toy stores. The gov hates them and wont allow it

...and even after all this, I'm sure TLJ fans will find another excuse as to why Star Wars toys couldn't sell in a dying store.
@petplatypus6 жыл бұрын
MobiusLeader007 It's a dying store........no one is buying anything from them. Why single out SW? My local target toy section is always filled. Kids have video games, smart phones, iPads and fidget spinners or whatever dumb thing is popular at the time.
@EponineReads6 жыл бұрын
this just proves that Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson have their priorities straight. The only reason George Lucas wanted to sell toys is that it gave him a nest egg to make these movies the way *he wanted* to make them. He didn't have to sell out to producers.
