I know a lot of people are getting sticker shock on these drums , But you are truly getting a Custom Handmade kit , I own a Bearing edge drum kit , it was expensive .. but the sound is what i was looking for , it looks like no one else's and i truly got what i paid for and Never looked back , i see some of the prices of drum kits from the big manufactures and they are not that far off , oh and it is not done by hand , also everyone else can have the same kit , I just recently purchased one of A&F steel snares .. i am a total fan of their drums now ... so worth the price and craftsmanship . think of it this way , you die once .. so LIVE like no one else will .. enjoy your journey , it's your passion , it's your Art .. express it ... Thank you A&F for making the sounds and drums you do ...

Have you ever seen one in person? They sound undeniably great - but their build quality is terribly lacking. Great for at home, or for the occasional session, but holy jeebus they are built so minimally - to a fault. And it appears to be for appearances. Which is unfortunate, because with just a liiiiittle bit more attention paid to build quality, they could be GREAT.
@cbaum645 жыл бұрын
Kevin Bothwell I have seen and played a few at local shops (never really at large distribution stores like GC though). I definitely get what you mean for sure, but I also think that the build quality isn’t as bad as you might think - they hand craft all of their drums extremely intently from fresh materials that they patina to look older and flimsier at their shop in Texas and they’re perfectly sturdy, they’re just minimalistic aesthetically more than anything. I watched a long interview with Anton on his philosophy and how their drums are made, and at the end of the day I personally believe the seeming thinness and minimal hardware is necessary for the tones and feel they’re going for. I totally agree though, I would only use these drums at home, for studio work, or as a shelf piece, but I also expect that going into the purchase. The A&F hype has kind of become an external thing caused by vintage fanboys, but at the core of their company I really dig their genuineness. I will also say that I’m not trying to be disagreeable at all, I completely understand your perspective.

Hey Christian thanks for the love. Kevin I’m sorry you don’t approve of the quality, but we do offer a lifetime manufacturing warranty on everything we make largely due to how solid we hand build each drum. Was there something specific you didn’t like?

@@anfdrumco Hey, my guy! Very classy of you to reply! First off - must clarify - I think your drums SOUND glorious. I got to play them at namm the last two years and have also seen them in a few drum shops. The thing that keeps me from being a "fan boy" is the hardware, and the stability. To a degree I can understand the concept of wanting as little extra stuff on the shell as possible. But in particular, I found it difficult to keep the bass drum comfortably stable, and the floor toms also had a tendency to wobble - even with just a soft nudge with the finger tips. I'm no designer, so I can't pretend how to make that better. I also wouldn't assume that your drums even need to be "better". It all comes down to preference and necessity. I do admittedly have a pretty heavy foot, and hands to match. So it could be more than I'm not a great match for the drums, rather than the other way around. But with that said, I can't help but think that with a little more stability and "road worthiness" you might attract a wider player base. And that's all I have to say about that! (but I totes want to get me an a&f snare at one point or another 👌👌👌)

Kevin Bothwell Hey Kevin we are so grateful for your honest feedback indeed. Ramy and even Nick here in the video as well as a hand full of our artist really put the bass drum to the test and it was un moveable. In no way are we trying to refute what you experienced, just pointing out that Nick in this video explained how even he was surprised at how strong the kick spurs were and then he played the whole kit at his standard velocity as a example. The floor toms we chose to put on floating rubber feet which give them tones more resonant movement by design. However a couple of drummers we know including Matt Chamberlain felt like you and just pulled the feet off and put other non resonant ones on for less bounce. All in all though we want drummers to play what they love as this is also our labour of love. If A&F brings you joy then that’s wonderful. If it’s another drum company, also wonderful as there are so many great ones making drums for all. Ultimately we are touched that you took the time to share with us and we hope we have attests shed light on our perspective. I can fully assure you that we cut no corners on what we do, but everything is purely by intention and design for best possible sound we can make!

You need better mics or more gain on the ones you have on the floor toms. They're buried in the mix with music playing, but the rack tom cut through ok. That or the floor toms just suck if they aren't hit hard in the middle of the batter head. Everything else sounds fine. Love the body of the kick & the dry snap of the snare drum.

Made in the USA!!!! Nice!!!! 6500.00? I get that everything is handmade, etc, but imo, drums have a big rate of return. I bet a 3000.00 Ludwig, or DW, etc sounds just as good as these do. All drums ( for the most part ,) from most manufacturers, are ROUND, with drumheads on them. I've played on a 1500.00 Mapex Saturn kit. I said, there's no way anything sounds better than these!!!!

These drums are beautiful and quite unique, and more importantly, sound great. However, I can't see how they can justify 8 grand for a drum kit, (talking Canadian funds) or 1800 for a snare drum, especially in this post covid economy. These drums are not available for the average working drummer. They're only made for drummers who make a lot of money, or are endorsed. Would be nice if they would make a kit that was more readily available for the working drummer, .
@michaelanderson28814 жыл бұрын
It's not part of their model. Every piece of every drum is made and assembled by hand in the U.S.A. and when the employees are all craftsmen and artisans, the price and the quality are both astronomical.

NegaArson Hey, Sorry for the sticker shock totally understand though. Here’s the deal, we are a family owned and operated company that chose to hand make drums(all shells, lugs, hoops, spurs, floor Tom legs, all brackets) out of Raw Metals and Woods here in Austin Texas using locally sourced materials and hiring local drummers and artisans, and that is definitely expensive. However the sound and quality we get in return is uncompromising and we just couldn't do it any other way! We started in May of 2016 and actually hold a full design patent on our drums, along with a hand full of utility patents for various drum gadgets we are releasing next year! Our drums come with a Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty on everything we make. Here’s a short film we released at NAMM in 2018 that documents the Why, Who, What and How of A&F Drum Co., hope this helps brother: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qn_RmZKfqMh_itE Hope this all helps and PLEASE feel free to ask us any questions you may have about, we welcome the inquiries and feedback here at A&F!
