Wow, a real treat of a drum video. Mind-blowing. All those years wondering what my ideal wood shell material is and never did the idea of metal shells occur to me. Blown away by the steel and copper sets and in love with the mahogany snare.
@pfunnk144 жыл бұрын
Man those brass drums sound huuuge! I still think the steel is my favorite tone wise which is surprising because it's one of their cheaper ones. All around their metals are better than their wood imo, especially that snare (wow)! That being said I've heard a lot of mixed reviews with shell unevenness and tuning issues to justify even spending this much money when there are so many great kits at or below these price points. Still a pleasure to hear them all like this. Thanks again DCP. You guys rock!
@henryharmon36563 жыл бұрын
I'm interested in where you heard the reviews about shell unevenness and denting. I received a kit significantly out of round. A & F claimed that ``We make them that way'', yet there is no suggestion on their website that their kits are meant to be out of round, and certainly no pictures to reflect that.
@pfunnk143 жыл бұрын
@@henryharmon3656 mostly word of mouth but check out the KZbin channel drummers review. They review an A&F snare and complain about that very issue.
@darrinthorpe92922 жыл бұрын
I agree! The steel shell floor tom? How the hell does a 14" floor tom, sound that low and rich? Pricing? I get they are all hand made. A and F aren't making these so we can play them at the local bar. Lol And, a high end ludwig, DW, pearl kit, etc will sound just as ( ok almost just as good as these do.) The return on investment just isn't there. Imo.

Standouts for me were the mahogany/poplar, copper, brass and steel. The one I didn't care much about was the Sabian shell. Nothing against Sabian since the cymbals in this demo sounded great, but those drums didn't impress like the other A&F kits.

Fascinating! So incredible that the tones out of the metal kits were all so rich and thick. The brass almost sounded like a modern maple kit. And proof in the pudding that mahogany/poplar is still king when it comes to max tone and fatness. I wish I had the money for any of these! And props to the drummer, he is ideal for showcasing drum kits. Thanks, DCP!!!

If these drum kits are made for different Specialties, when you demonstrate them you use Rock patterns predominantly. I know maybe you're playing your comfortable Style. They are expensive because they handmade but I think they are overblown. Marketing propaganda of different shell materials sells these drums more than their actual sound abilities. In these demonstrations the snare drums you use were ringe and not articulate. I've been playing long enough to know what makes a drum set sound good is the person playing it. Thin shells no reinforcing hoop must have a hell of a bearing Edge cut on them. I did like the sound of some of the toms. My observations are ones that are practical.
@RustyKnorr10 ай бұрын

My comment is not about the drums themselves, but the drummer that's playing them. Just a bit of constructive criticism.... I believe if you are trying to sell me a 6,000.00 drumkit, the drummer should play the same exact rhythms on every kit. Also, he should try and hit the DRUMS, WAY MORE than he hits the cymbals.
@drumcenternh2 жыл бұрын
it's a fair criticism.

Lots of hype about nothing special. Look is good - I like patina metal shells. Design (in many cases) is very poor - These bass drum legs are useless copy of an old-school bass drum legs which were very impractical: they don't hold drum well and drum moves towards front while playing. For example: Elvin Jones used to put nails next to these bass drum legs to avoid moving forward. Also single pointed lugs creates big tensions on the shell. Single pointed lugs may rotate and bend itself (and shell) under higher tensions. Last but not least: there are reviews on the internet showing that quality control of a&f drums is not on the highest level. To sum it up: quality and musicality don't justify high price.
