I’m surprised by all the comments about Ilana-it seems like many people aren’t familiar with her or her recent work. Her “seriousness” feels more like a reflection of where she’s at in her career right now. It was pretty clear that Brooke and Connor were nervous around her, which totally makes sense given who she is. Ilana seemed aware of that and approached the episode with more of a mentor, knowledgeable perspective. Brooke and Connor are young comedians with a very different audience than Ilana, so of course they weren’t going to handle this episode like any other. Ilana commands respect because she’s earned it, and she’s here to promote her movie, comedy special, and share her experiences. A big part of her work right now revolves around being a mother, which I find just as interesting, though it’s obviously different from the work she did when she was younger like Broad City. I didn’t pick up on any weird tension beyond the usual nerves you’d expect when someone’s in the room with someone they really admire. A lot of people are describing her as “condescending” here, but all I saw was a confident legend who knows herself and is in control.

Lol to be seasoned by Ilana is... an absolute life dream to help in career building. Especially in comedy and as the channel category. I'm in that life stage where it's super welcomed. I also could understand if you're 2 years in or have never watched true comedians (most of the BnC pod) hardened through thespian training that it's an attack on our beloved podcasters. I highly recommend watching "Tom Papa" (also a video pod... seen all his work.. absolutely incredible connector) to uncover the anthology and legacy of real comics.
