This video confirms what I’ve been thinking about the pedal. I’ve watched videos of people trying to use this to drive speakers through an amp. It sounds horrible every time somebody puts this in front of an amp and the best application of this pedal is going to be direct. This should be thought of is a direct box. Sounds very useful for studio, probably not so much in live setting. It definitely sounds better in the loop but I don’t think it’s as iconic in tone as the direct signal. The amp always colors tone, I bet you would get different tones from different amps effects loops.

Saw many videos but this one is convincing as you plugged into an interface! People demo with expensive amps & we don’t really if the tone comes from the unit or amp!

IMO MXR made a HUGE oversight leaving off the echo of the original. I remember buying one of the first edition Rockman in the early 80s and it was just an incredible revelation to turn on that chorus and echo---Instant Boston!!! When I would experiment and turn off the echo it was like meh!

I heard a rumour that the reason they left the delay off was because the chip is no longer made but the chip for the chorus is. Plus everyone has a delay pedal kicking around.

@@antoniomarcello9872I don’t buy this excuse. Every chip has an equivalent analog circuit so they could have added an echo circuit fairly easily. It’s called “designed obsolescence”. Apple is really good at this!

I tried buying one but they are on back order. So I took my mxr chorus, mxr classic overdrive (internal switch set to GT-OD not the zak whylde setting), and a cheap compressor going into my vox ac-15… it gets me close enough I don’t feel bad not spending $250 on it. Try using what you got at home.

I’m still waiting to see an unbiased or independent review of this pedal. I can’t believe they are calling it a “Rockman x100” when they left out the echo effect which was an integral part of the original sound. Sure you can just get a separate delay or “echo” pedal but it just seems disappointing that they left this out. I do not think it would have been very difficult to include it. I’d rather pay a little more for the pedal to have that feature. I’m guessing they will come out with a version two with the echo circuit so they can sell a ton more after they unload these🤨

I got one first day of release and it sounds nothing like all the demos - if you put it into the front end of an amp, as many would expect to, given the form factor - it’s hideously, piercingly bright. They should have sat on and upgraded this, perfecting it before releasing… the modes and chorus buttons on foot switches, an external mono / stereo switch, dedicated output jacks for mono and stereo, tone control(s) and MOST importantly the delay / echo… if the original delay chips weren’t available, they should have commissioned exacting replicas - the Chinese will build anything if there’s a profit for them

I reccomend turning up the volume or using studio headphones. This is anything but a toy. KZbin tends to add compression and the quieter something is in the recording typically the less harmonics your brain will pick up.
