Wow! This man went far to fake a collection book. Thankfully You and Adam are there to authenticate the book and the buyers were able to get their money back. That is really rare to happen. Usually the seller disappears.

My son was born at the beginning of 97. I went into Waterstones looking for a book series i could read to him. There was this new book that had just comr out called harry potter, the book i picked up had a green hardback cover with a gold quill sigining the name j.k.rowling on the front and it cost £10. I read a little a saw witches and wizards a decided it would be too scarey for toddler so i didn't buy it. I kick myself all the time.

I know that if rare books are rare that means you don't see them come up often, but if they did, where would they be listed? I can't imagine listing something like that on eBay.

Its mind boggling to mr that people can give away or even throw away books that were signed or are uncorrected proofs. Even if the book never becomes a best seller, or the author doesnt become super famous, those are just super special in my opinion. There's someone who lives near me who gets a lot of ARC's and Uncorrected Proofs. They put them in the little free library near me. I've been collecting them. They are so cool to me.

There's one listed on a website called Whitmore rare books. It looks real to me but not sure if it's legit or not, maybe run it by Adam or Peter? They're asking $225,000 which is more than 50% cheaper than the one that sold in 2021

Thank you for this video. It does raise some questions though. I think it would be fair to say that it would take some skill to be able to remove a page from a paperback and insert it into another book in such a way that it is not at all noticeable. Also, this is blatant fraud. none of this Frankenstein analogy, it is criminal fraud and the person involved should be charged. This makes one question every signed (rare) book in their collection. How frequent is this sort of thing? Particularly if the skills exist to easily carry off the fraud.

Adam Houston the Harry Potter specialist is who Peter mentions in this video. He has a website where you can contact him and have your book authenticated, appraised and he also buys books as well. Peter trusts him so he must be a good option!

Why would they take the signature out of a rare Strathblane book and put it in another? Didn't they lose all the value of that Strathblane? Was the new "Frankenstein" book worth more than the Strathblane rare book?

Yes, if they got away with selling a 1997 signed first printing, it would have been worth thousands more than a Strathblane fifth printing. The value of a Strathblane fifth is worth $12,000+. The value of a 1997 signed first printing is worth $30,000-40,000+.
