In order to mount a front wheel drive engine in a rear wheel drive vehicle, some changes need to be made. In this episode, I got together with Justin from @TheFabricationSeries to film the modification of the 4G63t Intake Manifold for the Mighty Max. (And learn a little about TIG welding in the process!

that was great! Laughing all the way through the video, so many real time bloopers. it is good to show real life fab so everyone understands that nothing ever goes to plan and true fabrication is about problem solving on the fly. Fantastic job on the 50k keep up the great work

@@GarageFab i was so cocky from watching a couple of his videos 8 years ago that i said "hey i can do that too!" and immediately got a jd2 bender, junk cheap amazon tig welder and started tig welding stainless frames and rails for people's boats with no experience. ..almost broken a few wrists with corded milwaukee magnum drill and hole saws way too many times.... still learning, still not that great at fabrication compared to both of you. but i made some extra cash and my work doesn't suck ass anymore. oh and since safety and broken wrists etc etc... most dangerous tool in the vid is that band saw. even those little porta bands... will go right through your knuckle in a split second. leather gloves might give you a half a second to keep a tendon from getting cut.
@GarageFab
@GarageFab 5 ай бұрын
@DeagleBingo I was just considering getting a Portaband. Now I’m second guessing. 😳 I think that cockiness is immensely important. Without it, you may have never started with so much momentum and might not have gotten to where you are now. Most people are too timid to try new things.
@DeagleBingo

@@GarageFab as far as making things easier doing it the old fashioned way (ie no cnc tools) the portaband with a little diy table or basically a plate with a slit cut in it and clamp it to whatever and actually this little m18 cold saw from milwaukee have been the best upgrades. so just imho if one had a couple hundred to burn and wanted to make the biggest impact in metal prep (other than die grinders and angle grinders etc) its the horror fright portaband (bauer) and that hundred dollar (bare tool) mini circular saw thing for metal that have saved the most time when i wasn't using a plasma. the portaband injuries are obvious as to why they happen i think... pushing too hard on the work piece in a rush so your finger/hand slips ... or it grabs and binds. or wasnt holding the work on either side of the blade (or small enough that holding it that way wasn't possible) and it would seem like an easy thing to avoid : just don't do that right? but even knowing these things and having worked in an ER... i still almost ended up a patient in my own ER a few times fabbing tube for people on the side... the leather gloves and keeping your hands and fingers to the sides of the blade at all times is enough problably. its still way safer than a full size band saw like you were using at justin's shop. it just surprised me how easy it still was to make those mistakes a second time trying to hold smaller work and make detailed cuts. as far as usefulness i would definitely still say get the portaband, just be advised and weary and always wear the thick gloves as they give you that quarter second extra to remove your knuckles from harms way. belt sander tube polisher has been a huge godsend for me too. also if you feel like it wonder if you could ask justin at TFS to put up his cut files for that sweet folding fixture table. he got really good tolerances and makes me wanna try and cut that on my cnc plasma too. cheers man. your channel is good... filling the gap of stuff we wanna know about. keeping it simple for diy ppl is the way even if advanced tools are purchased later, and i'm sure they will be. lol. thx

Great collaboration video! Justin has a great channel. I've got a spool gun for aluminum but haven't tried using it yet. The one time I tigged aluminum makes me think the spool gun won't be easy. Grats on the 50k, that's a big deal and you deserve it.
@GarageFab
@GarageFab Жыл бұрын
Thank you Clint! Definitely give that spool gun a shot! It’s for sure not “easy” but it’s not ridiculously hard either if you’ve got a decent grasp on steel MIG. You need pure argon and I’ve learned that once you get the settings right, the beginning and end of each bead is garbage so it’s best to start the weld off the work piece on a piece of scrap and end on a piece of scrap. The cut the scrap off later. I’ll likely be using the spool gun a fair amount on the next project on some aluminum sub frames. 🤔

Tip: When you're blending aluminum like you did with that radius, try using a 90⁰ die grinder with a 2" wheel. It gives so much more control than a large flat grinder. Plus, you only have to change out the disc, not the mandrel. You can go from 120 grit to scotchbrite with the setup. Good luck and great videos.

I can’t wait either! Once it cools off a bit here in Vegas, I’ll likely work on it in the back yard. The goal is to make it street legal. Don’t know if it’s possible but I’m gonna try. Thank you Michael! With the rate things are going, we’ll get to 100k LONG before 100 videos. Probably before 60 even. 😳 We’ll see!!

Even without knowing you I’m pretty confident you can do the majority of the things I do. Having the proper tools is the most frustrating setback.

Try using the clutch settings while driving drywall screws into drywall. Its mainly used to set the depth of he screw head so it doesn't blow through the cardboard layer during installation. Im sure there's many other ways to use it but drywalling is where its most effective. While drilling straight torque and a strong grip works best.😊

I try not to do drywall! But if I can’t avoid it I’ll certainly give it try! Thank you!
