I have a 2009 RAV4 V6 AWD, and when I was car shopping that V6 destroyed it's competitors. I bought it to pull race bikes to the track in the summer and to haul hockey equipment bags in the winter. It has always been a solid, reliable, and very competent daily driver, but it has never been what I would call "fun". This guy has made his RAV4 into something fun, and needs to be congratulated for it. I could be tempted to do the same sorts of intake/exhaust swaps, but I would need to maintain the stock tire sizes in order to get through a Saskatchewan winter. If there's something that this car does very well, it's handle fresh deep snow and icy roads with standard all-season tires (yes I know that winters are better but I've drove a decade with this vehicle and had no mishaps).

One of our "dailies" is a 2010 RAV4 Base V6 4x4. (Oooh, and it's a rare J-spec, too!!! haha) It's surprisingly quick (ran a best 14.1 at NTR, stock w/no spare), surprisingly capable offroad (I've taken ours places that amazed me and even my Jeep buddies w/ some decent all terrains. Disclaimer: It is NOT however a Jeep. lol), and handles far better than most know or would probably believe, on-road. I won't get into the awd system here, but many competitors are just now using proactive awd systems as capable. Not to mention the amount of room and deadset reliability our RAV has provided. The 2GR really loves to pull up top. Many people use them in swaps for mr2s, etc. It's also the same engine in the Lotus Evora and Elise V6, supercharged and n/a. The ECUs are also now moddable and capable of 300+hp w/7000+ rpms, stock and safe. Still gets great gas milage, too. Great V6 engine.

The "Diff lock" isn't a diff locker. What that button does is lock the "limited slip transfer case". Basically, the car is front wheel drive until it detects slipage in the front wheels which will then send power to the back wheels through its limited slip tranfer case. Btw the "tranfer case" is technically also the front differential. However, if you wanted to give power to the back wheels, you can press the button and the car essentially becomes a 4x4 up until 25mph with a 55/45 power ratio front/back. So it's not really a diff locker, I wish. I have a 2009 Rav4 Limited V6 4WD, it's awesome but at one point I also thought it was a diff locker lol. Mine, has custom dual exhaust, 2 inch lift kit with bilstien shocks, thicker springs in the rear for added payload limit, cold air intake, higher output coil pack with iridium spark plugs and a modded intake manifold that allows more air in. I also added 245/65/17 all terrain cooper tires with 17x8 rims with a 20mm offset which pusges the wheels out just below the fender for a perfect fit a a nice wide stance. Rear fender is wider than front so I added a 3/4 inch wheel spacer adapter which made it just perfect. Overall, it's quite fast and impressive to be honest. It's faster than my Focus ST and I'm very impressed with this vehicle. I bought the vehicle for 10k and all those upgrades were 4k so yeah, it was also way cheaper than my Focus ST and it looks amazing, very unique and tasteful.

Everyone is skeptical as to whether or not this could compete with an STI at the strip. The Rav4 Sport V6 AWD from 2008-2013 did 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds. Toyota (being toyota) never advertises the performance of their vehicles. i.e. The 2006, 07, & '08 Toyota Corolla XRS was sold in the U.S. with a 1.8 liter I4 co-developed with Lotus pushing out 180hp at 7600 RPM and was made available with a 6 speed manual only as opposed to the 5 speed used in other trims or 4 speed auto at 2500lbs that Corolla XRS was on par with a Civic SI or Mini Cooper S performance wise yet was never once marketed as such. I believe in 2009 they still offered the 6 speed XRS except this time with a traditional corolla powerplant: 2.4 Liter I4 pushing around 150 hp or so at a less exciting 6200 rpm or so. Yet, it had more body work and - gasp - red badges! And actually looked the part contrary to the previous, worlds better XRS. So yes, it the stock 2008-2013 Rav4 Sport AWD V6 could get 13.9 stock then I absolutely believe with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, aftermarket forged wheels and 'full bolt ons' is easily capable of beating a stock evo or STI in a drag race. Has anyone met an sti owner?! Anything could happen lol.

Or maybe a carb engine would be that significant of a gain. But this is a high tech Toyota 3.5 V6 with Dual CVVT cam timing, and an IAT and MAF sensor. It compensates for everything that may be restrictive in order to make the most power it can in any circumstance. And that hot air intake is making things BAD, cam timing will be retarded for the hotter cylinder temps, and more fuel will be injected. Lower power and lower efficiency. 5:45 when they talk about the diff lock switch! The diff lock switch doesn't engage the rear difflock at all. It rather engages the electromagnetic coupling connecting the gearbox to the rear axle. The coupling is not like a centre diff such as to allow slippage. But it's purely an on/off kind of system. The reason why on-demand systems cut off at >25+ MPH is because the gearing of the gearbox won't allow enough torque to be send to the primary driven wheels to cause wheel spin anyway. It's just like every other on-demand AWD system out there.

In typical Honda fashion The suspension is Over-Sprung, Acura chose a great tune for the Shocks and Sways which keeps body roll to a minimum add SH-AWD and you have one of the most neutral feeling Crossovers in the Market. It will destroy many crossovers that cost 2x-3x the Price in the Corners completely Stock and once modded it will rape most of them in a Drag.

I love mine. When I test drove it I was quite surprised how quick it was. Not only that, the handling is legit. I've surprised so many "sport compact" cars. My motor is bone stock for now because mods are hard to find. The practicality is excellent as well. Lots of room and mine has the towing package and can tow 5000# and has a 3.15 final drive so it blasts off the line.

Wow people here actually defending the guy saying it can 'easily" run 13's with 270hp... Bruhhh AWD, beefy drive train, slushbox tranny, 3600lbs curb weight. Nope... Math says no. If he thinks hes getting 300hp even at the crank with a hot air intake and an exhaust then he is smoking himself.

yeah this kid is an example of what is wrong with many youth car enthusiasts - get moms grocery getter, slap on some Home Depot garbage that makes it loud, and then they say they have 500hp and beat Mustangs all day. Sad.

This guy doesn't even begin to understand what potential a 2GRFE engine has and many don't know that it is the engine that replaced the 2jz line up..... he'd be surpised to know how much it can give an STI a hard time.... he's underestimating these rav4s....

That's the problem, Matt is also way too nice. When Blaze said "This will take out an sti" and you can see Matt just casually laughs it off. Matt has really mastered the art of ignoring Bullshit. I can see the pain in his eyes (behind those Dillons ofc)

Love it ! I added a K&N intake and a Borla exhaust. I loved the V6 before the mods, but now my 11 Rav flies.

V6 Sport Model is so over looked that if you try to find one in good condition and isn’t beat to shit. Get it. I did a recent search myself and you’d be lucky to find one with low miles and CLEAN. I have the next best thing. M40i.

jaysplace01 this car is not a 13 sec car it weighs 3,600 lbs and probably only make 10 hp more over stock because of that hot air intake. That would make this car .7 seconds faster than a TL types that makes 286 HP stock and is 300 pounds lighter. There is no way this thing is 13 sec car more like high 14s maybe.
@jaysplace017 жыл бұрын
bone stock is mid 14's so ill say low 14's instead of 13.5. its also AWD so that helps with acceleration and the TL type S is FWD
@ONLYUSEmeAZN5 жыл бұрын
These things can do under 5.5 seconds 0-60 and low 14s/high 13s in the quarter with lightweight wheels, basic intake, and exhaust lol they're no joke

I haven't seen all of these one takes, but this was definitely the most smiles per gallon I seen from his review. I enjoyed watching it. Here in Aussie, this v6 comes supercharged in a Toyota aurion. Not sure if you can supercharge the Rav

My wife had a 2007 RAV4 3.5. Think Stock they are 6.3sec 0-60. Put good tires on prob 6.0 sec flat. That’s way faster then you’d expect from a rav4. I use to blow people away All the time. D-bags in their Challengers or Jettas etc...

When the v6 RAV4 was developed, the Japanese car makers had a gentleman’s agreement to limit hp to 268 (they use the PS unit, which would be 300 at 268 hp). I have an 07 Limited, and my ass Dyno says it’s more than 268 hp as advertised. It’s no joke. Especially after 2500 rpm. Having said that, it’s obvious to me Toyota used software to tame the thing down a bit, or it could be even quicker.
