I've been throwing some MVP since their first disc, the Ion came out. Loved it and have been putting with it since, but it was the only MVP in my bag. The Wave changed that. Guaranteed to add distance for noodle armed throwers like me. I was throwing a Surge SS as my main driver before I picked up a few Waves to try out. Instant noticeable added distance. My bag slowly changed to all MVP as I tried different molds. The Volt is another VERY good disc, that replaced my Stalkers. The Theory is a super straight flying mid, although it's unfortunately OOP.
@JakeSmith-lz5mc3 жыл бұрын
I’ve always heard that your max distance divided by 30 is a rough ballpark for the highest speed disc you can throw, and throwing faster discs won’t increase your distance. For example, someone throwing 300’ should cap their speed at 10. Definitely relates to what you were saying about faster discs going further as long as you have the arm speed to throw them, I’m just wondering how accurate the max/30 rule of thumb is
@springysloth11863 жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard this before, but it applies to my game very well. I think it is a good rule for mediocre to advanced players, but with pros throwing 600+ feet it doesn’t apply as much. That would call for a 20+ speed disc. Thanks for the information though, I’ll definitely use this rule!

If you wanted to be scientific, you’d have to have a machine that could throw a disc the same angle and speed. Then you’d have to throw it several times and hope the wind conditions are similar. For the second myth, you should compare a 14 speed, to a 13, 12, and 11. I don’t think anyone is saying you can throw a putter as far as a driver. Of course a 13 speed goes further than a 9 speed fairway. For the Speed myth, you guys were throwing off grass and looked like you could have been slipping at the end. Should of done it off concrete.
@duckhunter40313 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried similar discs across many brands and I personally like the MVP gyro bc it seems to feel like you don’t need to put as much into the disc to get a similar flight to other brands. They also seem to want to glide further or stay in the air longer. Maybe the gyro puts more weight at the rim for the balance of the disc therefore making it naturally have more rotations making it stay up in the air longer.
@DrewFerrigno3 ай бұрын
lol.. i started like 4 years ago, and went from Mako to Hex as a complete newbie. Mako was my first love and then the Hex design and name shouted out to me. So then I loved one for a long time. Seeing them use their phone for these distance measurements is just painful. Your phone GPS at absolute best will get you +-1-2m or roughly +-3-7ft of accuracy. Good video BUT it would be nice to have a "PRO" throw them but not show what "PRO" throws them. You could even have a few pros throw to get a bigger sample size. Be nice to have pros from multiple different brands. Also would need brand new discs from any brand they throw and not allow them to use any discs in their bag currently to give any sort of advantage.
@dustinroberson18653 жыл бұрын
Running up fast, you are shortening your pull back to keep up with your body. Your power comes mostly from the snap when pulling the disc forward. When you run up fast, you also aren't utilizing the power in your legs and in turn actually need to slow down when releasing the disc. It's all about finding the happy medium.

Take a average. Cool interesting results from the other tests. Also super glad you made a joke of “nice”! Rather than actually testing it.
@DJJimboSlice2 жыл бұрын
You need more data points bro. It's impossible to account for your variations for each throw, so you do enough trials to where it doesn't matter. It'll come out in the wash. Also, why compare one disk against any other discs? Just do 50 throws with each disk, and log their distances. That data makes way more sense.
@drkevns3 жыл бұрын
You cannot bring momentum into the throw if you're not in balance the entire run-up. If you're tipping backwards during your backswing, you have to pause everything and wait for your upper body to catch up, ruining any momentum you bring into the swing. Most ams do this.
@Nolast125033 жыл бұрын
In future range comparisons... throwing 5-10 shots with each disc and taking the average would potentially be better science. Adds to production time but... just an idea without trying to get into mechanical solutions that could standardize the throw.

I like ur videos and ur intention … but I can’t understand a fact how a simple plastic disc has gyro technology… it’s a marketing term used by the company… the only thing that influences the flight of the disc is it’s aerodynamics … correct me if am wrong 😑… this disc golf sport always amazes me whenever I see the disc path .. especially I love the hyzer flips and flex shorts … that’s pure physics and how did they manage to pull that into disc is amazing .. and again it’s all to do with aerodynamics of the disc .. and the one mould the Buzz which can handle low and high torque and still fly the same it’s something mind blowing to think off and u can correlate that to gyro technology but achieved only by its aero dynamics

For scientific purposes (if you want to be more/actually scientific about it), the best way to account for variances from throw to throw or thrower to thrower is to simply increase the number of throws. Throw and measure 10, 20, or 50 throws with each disc and average them. The bigger the sample size the more options you have for working with the numbers too. For example you can choose to eliminate a certain number of the farthest and shortest throws for each disc to account for anomalies and get a more representative average.
