Had my morning coffee watching your video. Great start to my day. The crocs made me laugh. I hear you on not getting around to doing the jobs you like the least! Nice to see you also have autumn colours over there. ❤. Now my garden's slowing down I'm using the time next week to tour the autumn colours in Queenstown.. And visit garden centres... Once a gardener, always a gardener, even on holiday 😊

Hi Cherie, Thankyou! Yes!!! We do the same on holidays.. first “attraction” we look for are the gardens 💚. And all of the nurseries! Often we can’t bring plants home as we get frost but it’s nice to have a look.

I really love watching your videos and seeing what you're up to! The lights look amazing at night! I totally understand the black cords but soon you won't see them :) I think the camellia's will be fine in the ground. You're home and you'll be checking on them so you'll notice if they need water or anything. I love the smoke bush! I spotted it in a nursery nearby and loved it. The handles on the pot are such a good idea, I'm always terrified of redbacks hiding under the rims 😬

Hi Kat!! (Or is this Justin? I’m guessing Kat though). That’s a good point, we would see them multiple times a day. Smoke bush is mesmerising!! You guys are almost at 1000 subs, so excited for you! I’m almost always watching KZbin on the TV so it’s hard to leave a comment but I’m watching along!!

James, he was pretty sweet this time 😊The wisteria will be so lovely, it grew wild in our woods, walking the path to my grandparents was intoxicating. And the bouquets, lovely as always. The under the hood of that ev, looks like under the hood decades ago. I had a pick up 45 yrs ago you could just about walk around the engine. You guys have a wonderful weekend.

Hello!! I often think about how cool it would be to have a basement. They are very very rare in Australia. I probably really only know people with a wine cellar (which is pretty fancy in itself!). Hope you have been able to start planting out!?

@@phaedragardeness …. The basement is an additional space useable for many things. Presently , the Lisianthus and Ranulunclus are going in today under frost protection. My last frost is still a month away. My only safe months to grow outside are, June July august. Tulips are showing up right now. Flower and veggie seedlings all about to launch . Have a beautiful change of seasons!

When we bought the place we are in there was a camellia that was completely buried under cedar trees. A couple of years later I limbed them up and that's when I discovered the bush. I have no idea how long it had been growing there. Still pretty small, completely neglected, virtually no sun, never got watered and it was perfectly fine. It's now about 4ft tall and 5 ft wide and covered in blooms in early spring. I'd say camellias are pretty self sufficient.

I know this is a couple of months ago but... look at how many other things you got done! I'm a procrastination queen and ive gotten a lot more self compassionate about it. Teamwork and body doubling help me a lot. Love that hat! That's cool about the electric ute talk... I'm picturing all the farms in yack with electric utes now.

Hi👋, I'd pot them up for a season into 150mm pots (6 inch) pots and let them grow a bit more. Sasanqua camellias tolerate much more sun than the japonica and reticulata camellia. Also when they are bigger they can handle a little bit more weed pressure. If the area you are planning on planting is really hot photinia or viburnum would be great.
@phaedragardeness
@phaedragardeness Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole! This spot is going to be full midday and afternoon sun. I’m a bit worried now it might be a bit too much? I have a couple of Photinia and they give me terrible hayfever, every season I think about cutting them down. I do love your viburnum idea though!! My little dog is buried under one and I think she deserves an entire hedge! I think I still feel too sad to plant it right where I see it all the time though 😩

Hi lovely! You’ve had a busy week! I love the lights on the pergola, soooooo pretty! Smoke bush is gorgeous, I’ve got one but I’ve used it profusely and it needs a break maybe I should plant a hedge of them like you’re doing with your camellias!! That’ll look beautiful…. They’ll be fine in the ground but just watch rabbits and Roos don’t eat them….. always something out there trying to eat our plant babies!! Much love xx 💐💓

I have a white susangua camellia hedge which is close to the house also I’m only a few hours from you so experience similar weather conditions. From my experience with camellias I have found them very handy. Even from small pots. I have many in the landscape and give them very little attention even in the extreme heat of summer. My advice would be to plant them out now as it’s autumn and with winter coming they will have plenty of time to settle into the ground. They can put on a couple of feet in growth in spring so I don’t think it’s necessary to pot them up although it would be fine to do that. I suggest you protect them from the roos and rabbits, if in pots keep them up off the ground. I found the rabbits will dig at the roots for fresh root growth so protect with width at the root area to prevent that, if using wire bring the top area closer like a bit of a cone shape so roos don’t put their heads over to nibble the tops. For the first couple of summers you probably will have to give them a bit of water.

Thankyou so much for your info!! You mentioning you have them in your landscape made me remember we had a small one for years growing right next to the shed (In a bad spot… too easy for rats to hide in and get into the shed) … it was so hard to kill! It kept coming back!! I think if I baby these plants in the ground for the first year they will be fine!

Camellia don't have a massive root sstm and will grow on for another year in a pot. That would be my advice. Those little plants will need a lot of tlc out in the open.
