Soil is more space efficient. A 2x2 area can have 50 soil. A 3x3 area can fit only 36 planter boxes. The main benefit of planter boxes is they reduce growth time by some amount. But that's about it. Useless if you play only once a day. Without the new winter specialisation the yield is the same from both planters and soil

before the grid snapping update used to be able to get more than 50 planters, tho now the limits pretty much 50. havnt tried disabling grid snap and attempting to cram them closer together but honestly 3watts per 50 plots is fine enough by me.
