I can't help myself, but I would have a brush at the feed station to get all the residual feed from the feed ramp and have a pan under the five-gallon bucket to eliminate waste. I am sure it is nothing compared to tons of feed, but I am also sure if you go by the year, it will amount to something you would not want to waste. Great video! Thank you!

I feed my steer the same thing as I feed my goats, alfalfa pellets, a little "calf mana" type feed, and about a handful of a 10% sweet feed that I have for my horse. Just enough to have him bucket trained. He's the first steer I have ever raised myself. I've had a few farmers around say he looks real good, will have to see how he tastes.

Well that's a shame you lost one of your turkey's. It's really the best way to get your feed in bulk, if you have a feed wagon to put them in. Your steers will get use to the grain without molasses, but like you said, putting some molasses based feed with it will help draw them to it quicker. Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing, have a good evening and a great week ahead.

When I silicon I like to dip my finger in water then smooth out the silicon and help push it into the seams... in my opinion it looks a little cleaner, but good enough for a feed wagon.

The bulk gravity bed wagons are going to work out great, Evan. Just line them up on one side of the driveway for your next delivery and it will go smooth as silk. Too bad about losing a turkey, but when the rascals won't stay put, it happens. Domestic turkeys have never been accused of being smart. It's a toss up as which is dumber, turkeys or sheep, but neither will win any awards for intelligence. I think one can buy a "dry" sorghum to add to the cattle feed that may aid in transitioning the steers to the finish feed. I seem to recall having that when we farmed, but I may be mistaken. That was a long time ago. Supper looks great!😋
@scottfenn7253
@scottfenn7253 2 жыл бұрын
cook your corn in the husk on the grill for 7 to 8 minutes, and your silks will peel right off with the husk. Better flavor and saves on the aluminum foil. use a heavy rubber type of glove or clean welding gloves, pepper and butter to taste.

I've been watching O'Driscol Family Homestead and notice they soak the pig feed 24 hours before and it swells so they get a porrige like mix. Pete on Just a few acres uses a feed hopper when indoors and does the same as you outdoors. He also tried a finish feed for his cattle and decided it made no noticible difference.

Soak the ears of corn in water for 30 minutes. Then, grill them in the husks until the husks are browned well. Steamed and grilled corn on the cob! My dad would grill the soaked ears of corn on the coals of a camp fire. Nothing better!

1 thing to watch out for evan, if the feed is too fine it can stick to the walls of the stomach (especially in smaller pigs) and cause ulcers that can lead to death. Ask me how I know. One tip is to roll in whole oats that kinda scrape the feed off the walls as everything is digested

You ought to try cooking your corn in the husk. We cook it in the microwave in its husk. I feel it is the tastiest way because it cooks in its own juice. I guess that is why I hate people pulling the husk down in the store to check it. I can yell if it's a good ear just by giving it a little squeeze thru the husk. I raise ten acreas of sweet corn and sold it in front of my house. We sold out of whar we picked every day
@rodborn1147
@rodborn1147 2 жыл бұрын
Evan, since you like to grill, soak your corn in cold water with the husks still on. Put the corn, husks and all on the grill. The wet husks will steam the corn but the husks drying out and burning off will add a mild smoked flavor to the corn. Remove the hisks, add butter and salt. A great flavor on fresh ears of corn.
