I'm really enjoying watching the work on the M17, I bought a 83 model on the Texas coast and brought it back to the north side of Dallas. Have lots To do to put her back in the water, someone had removed the mast and tabernacle and was using it to fish out of! Am rebuilding the running rigging have to make new compression post to remount the mast slow going I'm 70 and not that fast anymore. Just hoping I can get it redone and sail her before I'm out of time in this world. Thanks for the inspiration and knowledge it helps keep me focused on the project.

Thanks for watching and enjoy your project Getting a boat back in sailable condition is part of the fun I’m not that far behind you in age

I have never seen you discouraged, nor heard you sound that you did not think that you could not do something. You always sound that you have no doubt that you could succeed at what ever that you are trying to do. You have so many admirable traits. I envy you.

Thanks Believe me if you work on old boats much, you will get discouraged or frustrated sooner or later Some things are just hard to fix or to get to

You are creative at problem solving...the piano wire was ingenuity! I dropped $800 in foam and sunbrella outdoor upholstery and remade the 27 year old cushions with 7 inches of memory foam that laying down is real comfortable and since I am disabled from a back injury a comfortable bed for me is mandatory. I also removed my outboard bracket, and one of the hinge joints for the rudder that isn't going to be needed anymore. I have a more heavy duty outboard bracket that will be mounted right in the middle of my transom. On the port side I have a teak 19" wide by 15" swim platform that came with a single step. I will remove that because I plan on mounting the outboards fuel tank there. My sailing days are done with the way my back is so she will become a little trawler. If I can swing it I want to raise the top 20" so I can stand, add windows and make it a pilothouse. I envy you have a grandson for some help...I wonder if I can bribe either of my neighbors kids because I noticed yesterday where water is dripping in from a bolt, so I want to remove and rebed hardware because that is probably how the old cushions got ruined, and the boat is 27 years old so I am sure it will make a difference. Glad I can sew and have had a Sailrite sewing machine for almost 25 year's.

Always enjoy your videos and learn something. Question: I have not seen a Montgomery 17 in person. I have sailed on a Capri (Catalina) 18 with a fin keel. Are these boats comparable? I am in the market for a trailerable boat in this size and there is a Capri 18 in my area that needs some work, but is in good structural shape at a good price. But, I was wondering if I should start looking for Montgomery's, Thanks

Montgomery’s are kind of hard to find around here The Capri 18 and Montgomery 17 are not very similar The Capri is a decent boat and fairly fast I think they have a wing keel

Go to sailboatdata.com and compare numbers for both boats and that might help
