I have one of these as well, but the fill screw is stripped, so I can't really use it. I have found that there is some wadding where the wick sits in. So when you release the fluid from the tank, you are basically filling a small petrol lighter. I think the reason why it leaked, was because the cotton piece was overfilled, just like what happens with any other petrol lighter. I'd try filling it up a little at a time.

There is also an o-ring inside the button that releases the fluid. That may be why it is leaking as well.

The reason your hand got wet is you put too much fluid in the upper chamber. Just like over filling a zippo. Also the fluid won’t evaporate like one with wadding. Carried one for decades with no problems.

These lighters are very interesting, but it is a pity that they have gasoline leaks. If the biggest brands have chosen cotton, there must be a reason. Mr. Ford tried to put only what was needed by the cars, because he said: everything that is not there cannot be broken.

It's possible but I think you'd have to break the epoxy and then reseal it. It's not the kind of thing I've ever done.✌️

@@DependableFlame thank you for the reply. That’s what I figured. When I was 13 my grandma gave me hers. I filled it not realizing the seals were bad and my hand went up in flames with the lighter. Melted the bottom by the screw hole and have been meaning to fix it ever since

Is there a way to open the lighter casing? The grommet the fill screw screws into popped out and I cannot screw the fill screw closed.
