@php Nah mate, it means evey time I go to light up a smoke my lighter is gone because the last guy that borrowed it, kept it. Same thing with a pen.

I actually liked collecting these different coloured lighters. The white and purple bits are rare in Seattle and worth a lot of money. I liked to think of them as adult version of star wars action figures. For example; black bic is Darth Vader and orange bic is obi wan Kenobi. You get the idea.

I was dismayed to find the safety sally metal safety ring after not having used these for years then I found a video showing that could easily be removed bringing back the good old Bic lighter. Wish they still had the flame adjuster lever.

I love spiking these types of lighters at the ground. For reasons I will probably never understand, it amuses me to no end.

Fun fact: Bic flints work in Zippo lighters. If your friend's bic dies ask them for it.

Don't forget you can still make a fire with an empty BIC LIGHTER !

They are great for popping off a beer bottle cap. Simply leverage the lighter over your forefinger wrapped around the neck just below the cap. Use the bottom end under the cap and bend down the lighting end holding the length tightly to you finger above the second knuckle. These are manufactured on Bic Drive in Milford, Connecticut, which makes half the world’s Bic lighters there.

Keep this and a hot glue stick in your tool kit. You can melt the hot glue and make emergency repairs, insulated wires, etc with the hot glue.
@stinkycheese8044 жыл бұрын
Why the fsck would you want to do that when you could just have a few sizes of heatshrink tubing instead? Hot glue is crap for anything but crafts. If you really want to make repairs, superglue or epoxy would be far better.
@BudgetBuiltDiesel4 жыл бұрын
Stinky Cheese do you watch Jimmy Diresta much? He keeps a hot glue gun on in his shop all the time for different things. It was in one of his shop tip videos. Also in an emergency situation I would love to watch epoxy dry. Hot glue is better then what you think. They make more then just the kind you buy in the craft store.

@@crazy_pyromaniac There is no rebuttal needed, what I stated is true. Any professional knows it is inferior for this purpose, unsafe, does not meet code, etc. Perhaps find something more useful to do with your time?

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Saw this in an online forum post and it seems the "community" is mostly unaware of this option. USE A # 10 O RING instead of a zip tie. For me the zip ties do not always work - to keep the gas \ fluid switch from being pressed. (one must get the right tension) Whereas the O ring works flawlessly # 11 O ring works too but is not as tight. Not sure how long the O rings will last "stretched" across the Bic but they easily are reusable. They are black so may be easily lost in the woods. They only cost about 2.50 for 10 of them. They work 100% of time to keep the gas from escaping inadvertently - get the word out seems many do not know about this. For the D Jeep lighters its the # 15 O Ring. When using an O ring press it into and under the - in between area to keep the switch from being depressed then man handle it over the lighter just king of slide it on as you do with the zip tie. If you find the O rings wear out in 6 months or a year from being stretched then simply use them when you venture out into the woods I have not test them for longevity. They can be easily lost so thread them on a peace of para cord when you get to someplace where you just leave your lighter laying around.

Random fact. The guy who created Bic's last name was actually Bich. He changed the name of the company for obvious reasons.

Wonder if the wheel could be recovered from discarded lighters and adapted to a dremel spinning file.
@stinkycheese8044 жыл бұрын
That would be a rather silly waste of time, considering there's these places that sell these things that are known as dremel bits that do stuff like grind, sand, polish, etc.

The only annoying thing about these except no flame adjustment is the flints are so wide you can't really reuse them in other lighters. Of course the safety is annoying but that is easily removed..
@stinkycheese8044 жыл бұрын
They're definitely good lighters but it is a shame that they cost so much. I can get a 4 pack of generics at the dollar store for... a dollar, and the only thing that really makes a functional difference for most people is that the flint wheel is so rough that it's not smooth to operate and wears the flint down too fast. It's funny how so many years have gone by yet the generics still can't seem to get that right.
@humboldtharry42483 жыл бұрын
Those see through cheap lighters are dangerous. They break easily and often do not extinguish immediately. Bids cost more because they’re built better

I use a 1980 Bic adjustable flame lighter with a refillable valve installed. I replace the flint every couple months with HEAVY use. I make a new one every year because I get bored with the same color. Really, I don't need to ever buy another lighter, they are disposable buy they work like new after years. Zippos suck, they leak and stink and are a brick. Ever tasted something lit by a Zippo? Tastes like the smell of a bum.

I noticed pulling safety spring makes the lighter leak gas. Anyone else experience this?
