close knife fighting, its filipino's unique contribution to martial arts. In my home town, two person both holding a machete and a knife both on their hands, tied on their feet with a 4 meter rope. Its a gentlemen's duel to the death. There are two times in Filipino history, filipinos used this martial arts to defeat their invaders. Very famous is that one written in our history books, that one in Mactan where Lapulapu defeat the 300 spanish soldiers lead by Magellan, on the shores of Mactan island. Lapulapu and his men used 'Kali' and machete while the spanish with their usual body armor and long sword plus their pistol(not verified yet) The other one , NOT EVERYONE KNOWS IT except for some very few people even to those who resides there at this present time. It is in Sta.Monica,Paranaque, during the early or middle of 1800s. Limahong, the chinese pirate send an invading force to land in the shore of Sta.Monica. A fishing barrio just in-front of the terminal 1 international airport in Manila, south of Manila and North of Cavite. A strategic location if conquered, then you have Manila right in your doorstep with no support from anyone south. A resident of that barrio named 'GALO' and his men, especialized in machete and close knife fighting engaged the chinese on the shores and fought them like 'juramentados'. The chinese amazed at the tenacity of their martial arts skill retreated to their ships and never came back. That barrio is now called DON GALO in Paranaque, now famous for its tapa and fried rice. Sadly no one knows about it and Sadly it does not have anymore its beaches, now its replaced by the coastal road, reclaimed by the government of that bloody Fidel Ramos, and the reclamation area was converted into first class subdivision and sold to wealthy chinese now. NOW DONGALO DO NOT HAVE THE BEACHES ANYMORE BUT NOW BELONGS TO THE CHINESE MOTHERFUCKERS. In the barangay dongalo at present time, you will see the statue of a chinese armored soldier vs a filipino fighter holding a knife and a machete. google the place but goodluck finding the story.

To everyone misunderstanding something, what are you even judging? There was no real "sparring" going on in this video, this is all partnered-exercises to practice body movement, to encourage reflex reactions. If they were sparring, everyone would need to be wearing protective gear all over otherwise people would get hurt very quickly... and the actual action would look very different, though probably more familiar to your "mma" eyes. This specific video is just really good exercises being taught by a master (such as the difference between parrying with your hand and arm vs parrying by moving your body with your hand as the contact point), this is NOT however, the class where he teaches them how to actually fight... there is a big difference, and if you don't know him personally, there is no real way to judge how well he fights, or even how well he can teach fighting, as this is not an example of either. Underestimating someone is the most cliche and basic of mistakes you can make...

broers verband any system is only as useful as the person can make it. I always carry a knife, and know many that do too. I don’t think it’s for everyone, but there are knife defenses in other martial arts schools too. You obviously wouldn’t only train stick fighting, even if you carried a telescoping baton or knife as edc. If you train only for sport fighting however, you will be most effective in the ring, and something like a hand to hand mugging or bar brawl. “Real life” often involves knives in more dangerous situations, though arguably most people taking this class will probably never use the things they learn here, maybe one or two will in a self defense situation so they can run away.

those saying this is all just fancy moves and not work in real knife fight....but yes, best option for anyone is too avoid a confrontation, nothing wrong with running away from a fight or knife fight but it's better to have these skills instinctively and not need it, rather than being cornered with no skill at all.
@Ontarianmm
@Ontarianmm 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, the fancy moves are there as demonstrations, or are just combinations of smaller things. For the long set of strikes and parries, it is just a series of blocks and riposte. In reality, you block and riposte once or you don't get to do it. That is how long a fight really lasts, especially with blades.

Muscle memory, just like boxing. In actual confrontation you are just reacting what your eyes see.
@zhixci958
@zhixci958 3 жыл бұрын
people don't understand that doing this in a pressured situation is different, so yes it can be useless, you also have to consider the shock and fear that you will feel when you're in an actual confrontation some might shake it off but some will be terrified and petrified. that's why actual and continuous training is important because they might eliminate the fear and give you enough confidence and muscle memory to actually react. and that's just not applicable in kali, it's applicable in every martial art.

These people who comments that MMA/ brazilian jujitsu will beat anyone in a street fight clearly does not know what they are talking about The streets is not an Octagon, you are not fighting one enemy at a time but multiple enemies simultaneously who will shank you as soon as you pin his buddy to the ground, which is why you do not fight on the ground. There is also a reason why you fight with a weapon as fighting empty handed will clearly put you at a disadvantage unless your carrying slash proof gloves.
