Yeah. I almost thought he would answer that becoming a grandmaster is like in Naruto (from a principle standpoint, not that he would mention it).. Others decide you're a grandmaster now, not yourself. You get to be made a grandmaster because people look up to you. Like the hokage. You can't just decide I'll be hokage, others decide that for you.

@@mukiwabanda2794 because some time before, he did. he's not boasting, it's just the way of how he put up the sentence. he's not a native english speaker after all. he always told about the story of him telling his masters that he'll promote the art worldwide and they just looked at him, full of doubt because of his standing in life. but look at him now, he's fulfilled his promise. in his younger days, no one really can promote the art worldwide because even his masters were just backyard instructors. it just happened that years later, one of his students took him to New Zealand and started spreading the art there.

I was inside a store looking through the glass at a 20yo guy walking outside that was about to get robbed and worst got killed by two robbers. The event happened so fast in just 15sec and he knocked one of them out unconscious and stabbed the other on the right biceps and both thighs with the attacker's ice pick. Little did i know, that the guy was a common friend of my best friend's cousin and was told that he didn't even know how he did it. According to him, his body just respond that way like an adrenalin rush and run away coz he was so scared. He thought he killed the other guy that was knocked out cold and the fact that he stabbed the other three times. He thought he's gonna get charge of attempted murder and that thug is now paralysed. That nerdy 20yo guy is a kali practitioner since he was 12.

he's straightforward.. "it won't work for me" "of course this is just a drill" that is the real essence of FMA muscle memory.. it will train you to have fast reflexes at a split second thinking.. oh yes you can be a master of kung fu, aikido, muay thai, even BJJ.. you can be good to those martial arts.. but in real life, can you do your kung fu if someone pointed you a gun or swing a knife instantly? no, most probably you will be in shock and petrify.. but the FMA really taught the muscles to move "involuntarily" at alarming situation.. when i was a child i remember my grandfather's friend who taught arnis in the neighborhood .. an old man maybe around 60-70yrs old at the time, when one of his student (my father's friend) intended to make fun of him from the back tried to tickle the unaware old man on his (master) waist with his (student) forefinger.. but instantaneously regret it!!! as soon as his forefinger touches the old man's waist.. the master reacted so fast he as he quickly turn in front swiping the arm of my father's friend with his one arm while the other arm slapping the face all in one moment followed by a quick kick at rhe back of the knee.. before he noticed that it was his student... my father's friend, stunned on bended knee and had a bloody nose 😅😅😅 my father's friend , i called him "uncle boy" when he was still alive, i always remind him of that epic fail and we laugh about that 😅 that moment i admired the art but unfortunately never been a practitioner..

*SO* much respect, for *EVERYTHING* about this man: From the way he clearly flows in (has a DANGEROUSLY capable connection to) "The Dance", to the way it is quite apparent just how much speed and violent energy is calmly maintained within in ready to explode outwards as needed, to the way he is so zen and understands that teaching -ESPECIALLY teaching of connection to "The Dance" needs to be personal and one-on-one....yet he still acts in a manner he feel slightly profanes the art as he sees is ultimately necessary to preserve it, to the way he remains humble and peaceful. Much respect to the Grand Master at that age and speed it's unbelievable. SALUDO PO KAMI SA INYO. How I wish I'm still young I would have study this type of Martial art. I hope he can promote it in schools as part of a physical education, it will be very useful in every life specially now a days that there's so many bad elements everywhere.

I've met this man doing demos in NY, my instructor studied under him. He is as humble as humble can be, and MAN can he move quick.

My late teacher was a one on one teacher as well, I based my whole defense on a handful of stick drills he taught me so it t is safe to say that I appreciate the art which you promote as well!
