9:03 Havn't developed in the East? The Han Dynasty was huge, and they dispatched emissaries to Rome that reached Kuwait, and were mislead into believing they would need a ship to sail around Africa and 3 more years. It would have only been 40 days over land, and had they known that, they would have met Trajan in his first year as emperor. A single conversation is really all that kept these two hemisphere's from being in open contact in this time period, so it would have been nice were that a possibility in the game.

The ancient Rome and China were aware of each other. Commerce between these two empires was a common thing and some historiographical sources says that few embassies were sent and met. A direct contact was very close when Traianus occupied Ctesifonte, the Parthian capital. In that time China had some garrisons nearby ensuring commercial bases. The Parthians were afraid of the combined power of these two empires so they tried with all their strength to not let they met. Then it came Hadrianus that inaugurated a defensive policy, bringing the legionaries back to the Limes Siriano, meanwhile China withdrew from Parthia. Probably we were talking another history by now if ancient Rome and China enstablished a mutual relation, perhaps weakening or dividing Parthia, the thorn in the side of Rome for centuries or with a better understanding and management of barbarian invasion. Maybe. Or maybe even if they met they were too far each other for the technological level of that age to provide a significant help each other. We cannot know, but we can speculate about it, and this it he beauty of history!

It was problematic for Chines back then to have greater influence in outer world because of geography. China is contained between Southern jungles, Sybir, The Himalayas and Gobi dessert. It was impossible for them to have developed contact with other civilization.

Sooo? I've actually always felt the long campaign in Total Wars was actually quite short... Campaign in EUIV felt too short as well(but it was better length) so I'd be down for some TW-like battles combined with Paradox's diplomacy and campaign map... It's the best thing that can happen to humanity right now

The bottom left icon in the bottom right corner at 11:22 which you identify as containing a letter and thus standing for admin afficiency, might also stand for tech (as the image looks more like the Pythagorean theorem to me). Even though it is possible (which is why I pointed it out), as we have seen something similar in ck2, it doesn't seem too likely to me due to the sheer number of tiles on the map. P.S.: legions were normally made up by 5000 men each. With ~32000 men you'd have six (VI) whole legions.
@EChuTaa
@EChuTaa 6 жыл бұрын
Yo, thanks for spelling out the legion numbers! I saw someone say it might be army size but was unfamiliar with Roman military organization so I didn't put 2 and 2 together. As for the tech point idea I also thunk your right, I the trig in the image when putting the video together but after a few people pointed it out I'm pretty well convinced your right.
@Unknown1355
@Unknown1355 6 жыл бұрын
11:47 the middle row seems like peacetime duties for legions. Legionnaires were also used on other duties other than fighting wars, this also included many peacekeeping and development duties. Such as patrolling rivers, helping building up conquered lands and maintaining general order. My guess is that they indicate garrisoning a (major) fort, spreading religion, culture or customs, protection of trade, border duty (in lighter wooden garrison) or "hunkering down" temporarily, torch could be patrolling and preventing unrest and finally building roads.

Why the hate on Pardox's DLCs? Certain ones are overpriced but most of them add in a ton of things that often make the price worth it. From the looks of it, this game is going to be full of good stuff from the get go. Any DLC's will most likely be additions to the map (and adding in even more provinces/cities).

10:14 the first icon is the Civilization level, the higher it is the more "stable" the region becomes, the second is how many barbarians are inside the region, in order to colonize you needed to have a region nearby with at least 50 civilization and the region you want to colonize have 0 barbarians, this could only happen if you sent an army to clear out the barbarians in the region but you had to wait for them to do an uprising as you just couldn't get there and do it.

Be prepared to be disappointed at the overall mechanics since you are pretty much regulated to playing on rails as any nation and its hard to breakout of what confines you. However, Rome's political system is many times better than CK 2 considering EU: Rome was a predecessor and you will see the potential the game had if they fully fleshed it out.
@DeValiere_
@DeValiere_ 6 жыл бұрын
It's a "sequel" to EU Rome to all intents and purposes; they've rebranded it to avoid confusion with EUIV I assume. A lot of what Paradox is teasing is same / similar to features in that game with more added and/or improved upon. Should be fun if the senate mechanics are a bit easier to deal with. Hated that in EU Rome Vae Victis. In EU Rome trade routes could be established within your nation via sea routes between provinces or you could trade inland between provences as well. Trade routes will also be possible with other nations I assume, as was the case in EU Rome. Trade goods will generate some income, BUT they also allow recruitment of units - so, if you want to recruit Principes in Rome, you'll need to import iron etc. Want to build triremes? You'd need wood in the provence, or have to import it. Want them built faster? Import cloth... you get the idea. Grain assists pop growth, wine lowers revolt risk... Resources were a critical part of EU Rome and look to be again in this rebranded re-launch from what I can see. EU Rome was a flawed gem more or less. Expansion into barbarian lands was often painfully slow however, and the barbarians themselves delighted in wrecking you over and over again to the point where you wondered if there was a point to playing the game. I'm really hoping this new take on EU Rome will imprive on what was great about the original, and maybe tweak some of the more annoying aspects of it as well.

These character portraits look like roman gods: Jupiter, Minerva, Mars, Vulcanus, ?, ?, Mercurius, Janus, ?. And if I remember correctly you could sacrifice to those gods in Europa Universalis: Rome, to get some bonuses or maluses, if it didn't worked. A lot of the features seem like a newer version of what we already had. There was character management, rebellious generals with loyal troops, provincial governors, barbarian uprisings, colonization, a pop system with citizens, free men and slaves (science/culture, manpower and taxation), a production system, where it was important, what the province produced or traded for (f.e. you could only train cavalry in a province that had access to horses) etc. This very much looks like Rome 2 to me.

I think the game will play a lot more like CK2 than EU4 tbh. That's not a bad thing, but in EU4, it's all about outward expansion, only in the very early versions was internal management even something to worry about. I have a feeling that a large empire will be difficult to sustain, with constant rebellions.

Macs RW I've really wanted a good cold war gamr ever since Rise of Nations with their cold war campaign! Hopefully we'll see some awesome modes for Imperator because I think the character system in this game would lend really well to a cold war game with defectors and such.
@Bakuninite
@Bakuninite 6 жыл бұрын
E_Chu_Taa yeah, especially if you can send the characters to specific places I order to carry out specific tasks. Like I had this thought that in order to have diplomatic relations with a country in a Cold War game, you must assign an ambassador who may have their own agendas (which obviously could be automated for countries that the player doesn’t really care about.) additionally, a government should have a cabinet and chain of command so that if a nuclear strike happens, the chain changes really rapidly and just surviving as a rump state is a new goal.

What if I said that one's entire life had been decided by fate? That every single one of your actions, from the minute to the monumental, stemmed not from your own choices, but had already been decided upon? That life being a journey of limitless possibilities was but an illusion, and no matter how fiercely man struggled, he stood at the mercy of a long-established path? The wealthy shall know their riches. The needy shall starve on the streets. The wicked shall be wicked, the righteous just. The beautiful, the hideous, the strong, the frail, the fortunate, the miserable... and finally, the victors and the defeated. What if I said that all such things had been carved into stone eons ago, allowing for no divergence? If so, sinners have nothing to answer for, nor do saints have any true virtue to their name. What if I said that not a single action is carried out of one's own volition, but had been decided long ago? That we are merely adrift in the current of time? Tell me, would you feel content with such a world? A world in which power is merely given, not earned - would you accept knees bent to a throne build upon such falsities? A universe where the sinless have-nots are oppressed and downtrodden - would you allow such a world to exist? Never, I say. Never. Those in possession of such knowledge who can still laugh joyfully, oblivious to what it means to be truly alive, are but slaves, the lowest of the low, hardly deserving to be called human beings. Nothing dampens the spirit like the stale wine of an unearned victory. Nothing is more unbearable than bitter defeat against the chains of destiny. Should ceaselessly repeating this farce - this slander of the highest order - be the fate of mankind, then I will struggle against those chains with all my might. I shall walk this road to its utmost conclusion, and, at the distant place I can call my finale, compose an opera that belongs only to me. And so, I require your aid, my dear ladies and gentlemen. You, the oppressed, the downtrodden, the massacred - you who where once as brethren. You where born to be defeated, to be massacred till the end of times. Should you curse that fate of yours, come and stand at my side as comrades. If a hundred battles yield no victory, fight a thousand. If a thousand battles yield no victory, fight ten thousand. Vow to struggle for an eternity, ceaselessly, till the light of victory finally shines upon you. Any that has the strength to do this shall be permitted to become a means to that end - a part of the "sorcery". All in order to claim eternal victory. The Mane of the Beast, each an every strand of it, shall be from your flesh and blood. You are blessed to be as such. Although I, you, and he as well... are still bound by that miserable cycle at this moment... let us believe that the decision we are about to make truly holds a meaning... That one day, we can break free from this perpetually repeating cycle. My dear ladies and gentlemen. Defeated souls of the present age. I await your answer: Will you rise to battle?

Very different, its grand strategy so more like the top level of TW games where your managing a nation. There wont be any battle sub-layer like TW. Paradox focuses on creating deep mechanics about diplomacy and administration of your empire. Check out Europa Universalis 4 for a relatively recent Paradox game in the same vein as this.

Couldn't they have told us something useful? Right now the only distinguishing feature we know is that it's set in Rome's era. Everything else is vague enough to be applied to any of their other grand strategies. Like, what's the focus. How detailed is it. What is their vision here, how do they want playing it to feel?? Absolutely no information of value :( It's so obnoxious being drip fed this stuff. Don't bother me until a week before release.

No China on the map? Then I bet it'll be DLC or an off-world power. 300 BCE would've consisted of the unifcation of China into its first Imperial state and saw the Qin and later Han expand their influence into Central Asia. If they continued, I''d of loved to see some battles between Roman legionnaires and Chinese footsoldiers (ofc they'd be an obvious winner).

That would be cool, but it would be extremely difficult to add China to that map. The map projection is very focused on Europe, causing a lot of distortion elsewhere. Going by how distorted India is, China would probably be rotated about 90 degrees from true north, which would be really weird to play in. Changing the map projection in a DLC wouldn't be impossible, but it would be very difficult and highly disruptive.

ChineseCentury You think the chinese would be an obvious winner?
@mandalorian4620
@mandalorian4620 6 жыл бұрын
ChineseCentury The huns? There were no huns before B.C. and the nomadic tribes that were there predecessors were not a problem. You also seem to underestimate the strength of the "barbarian" armies. Especially the germanic and north gallic tribes were fighting essentially nonstop at the time and had strategic experience as well as a fierce fearlessness, that even managed to shock the highly structured roman armies. The chinese might have had a numbers advantage in the earlier centuries B.C., but the closer you go to 0 B.C., the lesser are the opponents that could fight the romans. The crossbows wouldnt penetrate the roman testudo formation. The cavalries would have a hard time against velathri, since no matter how heavy the armor, the spears will penetrate it, as well as the horses. But the major advantage is the roman organisation and war strategies, which rarely failed. But of course, in hindsight it is hard to determine who would have been the better force, I merely wanted to question what makes you form the opinion that the winner would be "obvious".

:/ I really hope you dont end up with 100+ 30k armies... back then these numbers were stupidly unrealistic... 10,000 was a large army during ancient times...
