I was an Esoteric dealer from 2011-2013 before the company was sold off to Gibson Guitars who owned 54.24% of Teac who also owned Guitar Centers & Onkyo! Gibson filled BK in 2018, TEAC announced that they would continue to operate on their own. I’ve always had the highest regard for Esoteric products! Before that their TEAC USA facility was in the city of industry, Southern California.

I am a big fan of the company plus, to be young and strong and able to handle that equipment. I live in a third floor walk-up condo and I can't lug that kind of stuff up the stairs anymore, my local dealer lugs that stuff up the stairs for me. Some years back I attended a gathering at a private residence where only(for the most part) top end not usually seen Japanese gear and a few Danish, Swedish, or Finnish-made gear were being displayed and auditioned in a comfortable setting with food and drink and I could get a better handle on the music. I've heard Esoterics digital hardware before and every time I do I take notice of it. It just always stood out from the crowd. I'm not a raving audiophile and I could have easily lived with just about anything I heard that night but to be able to see and listen to all this far east exotica under one roof outside of a dealer or a show was the best.

Not correct. The semi-floating top cover design provides a more open and dynamic sound (according to Esoteric). But then you see in Esoteric marketing photos components stacked on top of each other so you'd think that would defeat the purpose of the floating top. Jay is not quite correct when he said all Esoteric products have that design feature, they don't. This is a new mechanical design feature of current model products first seen in D1X and P1X. He's also not quite right about the proprietary ESLINK-A connection on the back of M1X. This is just a current mode connection. Halcro, Krell and others have supported current mode connections in their products for many years, although the way Esoteric does it using the XLR connector is unique. An advantage of current mode is it's agnostic to the cable you use to connect it - in other words, it doesn't matter the cable you use they all sound the same (so just use a cheap cable). I'm looking forward to his review of C1X + M1X (I own C1X but decided against buying M1X due to the four day warmup required to reach optimal sound).

Hey brother, the way I handle those heavy items from boxes I turn the box upside down, then open it, then turn the flaps, outward, gently turn the box right side up and pull the box up and over the contents

Yeah the shape of those boxes shows why something that heavy really should be sent freight in a shipping crate. Storing the crates sucks, they weight a ton, the *crate* for my 1160 weighs more than my previous amplifier, but it's essential if you have to ship these things more than a couple of times. And having a crate with a floor and a box top makes it a lot easier to unpack the amp, you can just slide it off. I don't think my wife and I could have lifted the 1160 out of a box.

Hey Jay, correct me if I’m wrong, but these look to have just one set of outputs, such that you cannot bi-wire these with your SE17. Did you not say that SF recommends bi-wiring or bi-amping for ultimate performance? I’m interested to hear what you think of them even if it’s not an apples to apples comparison to the 901s

Auditioned a more modest S-02. I enjoyed it. You may find that you find the Grandioso an enjoyable piece as well. As far as Japanese brands I think Esoteric is on par with Luxman and more accurate than Accuphase despite not being as well known and prestigious in the U.S.

On par with Luxman? Are you kidding me? In Japan, Luxman is considered the weakest, Accuphase is on par with Soulnote, and Esoteric Grandioso is above all of these brands.

@@meesmo4 I like Luxman, so what. It sounds closer to the Esoteric than to an Accuphase. That was my point. I find it childish to rank one brand as above the other. This is a hobby where it is a matter of personal taste. Different yes, but not any better. Nothing wrong with preferring the Esoteric, nothing wrong with preferring a Luxman or Accuphase over it either.

Jay, unfortunately C1X isn’t the best pair for them. You should try other top end pre - it’s the main secret to reveal their best. In my system they exceeded Gryphon and CH Precision monos in all disciplines.

Not true...the C1X is a great sonic match as is the C1Xsolo. No surprise here. There are probably other great pairings out there, such as Gryphon and MBL top preamps. CH 10-series is another likely candidate. There are probably others in the SS world as well as certain top tube preamps
