Is it ugly? Is it cute? It's a mystery!
The fabric is by Kaffe Fassett, I ordered it from www.missouriqu... and used 4.5 yards. I believe the design is called Baroque floral (no wonder I love it!)
The pattern was self drafted
These are the shoes: www.baitfootwe...
The hat and belt were vintage (belt from ebay, hat from paper doll vintage)
I got the button forms from here: www.etsy.com/s...

1. That dress makes me think of a witchy Halloween costume in the best way possible. I am a sucker for dramatic shoulders and those poofy sleeves definitively give that dress a bit of flair. 2. I love the orange half hat you wear at the end of the video. 3. I am super excited for historical sewing vlogs. Your historical outfits are always so amazing, unique and different from anything I see in my day to day life. 4. That sunflower dress was really cool. I personally think the 1830's might just be the only decade in human history capable of rivaling the 1980's in terms of hideous fashion, but the fabric sunflowers on the dress won me over.

For me, the buttons really pulled it all together by highlighting the gathered bodice, before adding them, I didn't notice the gathers. Beautiful!

I think haul can be great as an educational tool. If you can focus on why you bought a piece and what you think it contributes in your overall wardrobe, I think it will make you feel less vain about filming a haul. I find that I like watching them because it's interesting to see what pulls people in terms of silhouette, fabric, and in your case is it the decade the clothing is from or inspired by that attracted you to purchase it

I agree, even adding inserts of the clothes that are already in your closet that you think will pair well with your new finds would really give the videos more visual interest.

Also, the silhouette of that dress is beautiful! I think that, paired with historical accessories, the print and design make a lot of sense and are so much fun to look at. Venturing into Vintage: I would love to see how your makeup and hair routine (and the time commitment of it) changes with your wardrobe. Is that part fun for you, or just feel necessary? I have considered trying Vintage apparel but I feel like it would take forever to get my naturally curly hair in line with the look.

I am conflicted about the dress too, but you didn't make it for me; you made it for you. You love it, and want to wear it and that's enough for me! I just really love watching the process of your design going from something in your head, to being on paper and finally coming to life as a finished project. :D

The dress looks fantastic, but, to me, it screams 80's. As I was in my twenties in the 80's, this dress brings back fond memories. I'm currently sewing some 70's costumes, so I might "pinch" this pattern when I start my 80's costumes.

I really wasn’t 100% sure how I felt until I saw it styled, but it’s a lovely dress... I’m not a fan of the poofy sleeve in general having lived through the 80s but with the vintage feel of the bodice and length it really works. Haul content is fine by me, happy to watch anything my fave content providers make. :)

Loved the dress, and you look lovely in it. I would love to see a series on lounge wear. For decades women wore wonderful loungewear, not pj’s. In the 1970’s my mother had a lovely 1 piece jumpsuit she wore on her days off. Friends came to coffee, she straitened the house, all done in this pretty, feminine and amazingly comfortable piece of loungewear. Thank you for sharing your clothing design journey.

How lovely! I can see why you had some reservations --- I think that, while there were vibrant patterns and odd color combos in women's clothing from the teens to the forties, with modern tastes tending towards more minimal color schemes it can make it hard to really embrace something a little louder without worrying it might be 'too much'. I think it turned out smashing, though! And it looks so good on you. The buttons are so cute, they really add that extra something. For the record, I thoroughly enjoy vintage lifestyle fashion and haul videos. I think, for some of us, it's nice to see what sort of clothing is out there and get ideas and such. Plus, it's nice to know there are other vinties out there. :)

My mom made me any beautiful dresses. She had a terrible sewing machine. She was so skilled she made a beautiful heavy satin wedding dress , with self covered buttons down the back , and many on the sleeves. The dress was worn for three generations. My favorite dress was worn in 1962 on a date. It had ,cap sleeves. The bodice was at a slight angle. I requested hidden buttons, that was a little tricky. The skirt was very full. The material was a beautiful medium blue. Like a very fine cotton.,. It had a good drape. I wore it with white heels and a necklace of medium large graduated large beads. I enjoy your Verdi’s. The buttons were great. I wish the sleeves were not so full. It is fun to watch you modify and fit your patterns.

Love the way you formulate your concepts then going on to drape-design as you work through the piece. The Fabric is stunning with the whole ensemble looking fantastic. Your commentary is just right along with a measured appreciation of what visually illustrates without overly labouring each phase of project development.

I absolutely love the fabric you decided to go with! The bright colors are so autumn without being bland, muted, or otherwise lacking in life. The leaves may be dying this fall season, but they pass in a fiery battle rather than solemn solitude or so I like to think. I completely agree that the fit of this piece is really really flattering. Considering you rapidly created dress on the fly, I think that is particularly amazing. It was also great to see how you planned ahead for potential adjustments when deciding on the type of seems and order of assembly. We have really different taste in clothes overall... I'm not a fan of puffy sleeves of fitted waists, but you managed to make me like them with this project.

The whole outfit came together with you in the hat and made up, I think the fabric is unique and the dress with the button detail at the front suits you down to the ground. The shoes are fab!! and any colour that is in the dress would work with it. It may be a vintage dress but it has an 80's vibe about it too. NOTHING wrong with that either. As always you are inspiring.

So I’m commenting on an old video, but I’ve been absolutely devouring your channel this week and I wanted to comment on some of your concerns and reservations that you mentioned here. I watch your videos mostly for entertainment, often while crafting myself, so I really don’t mind when you’re rambly or show things you’ve already showed a thousand times! It lets me experience your process, which I enjoy even when it’s nothing “new”. I also love your “showing off” fashion videos for similar reasons, I like getting the vibe of your mindset as you do something I’m playing with starting. I also just like hearing you talk :) keep being you!!

I adore that dress! It‘s very ‚in your face‘ fabric wise, but in a good way. It makes me smile, when I look at you 😁 And I like just listening to you talk about sewing and history and also (for the record) your occasional struggle with difficult or unsatisfactory projects. It’s so very relatable to every creative person, I think. I think, the most important thing is, that you focus on creating content, YOU are passionate about...because that passion totally shines through and makes it enjoyable to watch you.

I, too, feel conflicted about the sleeves. But you are so adorable that I think you pull it off well. I love that you're transitioning more vintage styles into your everyday wardrobe. It suits you SO well. I've been doing the same with higher-waisted pleated pants and some more 40's inspired menswear, though it is TOUGH to find modern places to carry this style and, unfortunately, KZbin doesn't have too many men's tutorials on vintage sewing like your channel. I still really enjoy your videos and love seeing you educate us all on your process, good and bad. :)

I love the silhouette of this dress, like.. so much!! Especially the front with the buttons and the big puffy sleeves ♥ I would definitly wear this exact dress (which fits you like a glove I must say!) but maybe in another print or in a plain colour (maybe velvet??) The print goes very well with the silhouette after all -- I was worried too it would be too 70s' but in the end, it has a nice historical touch that makes everything go together! The shoes are a perfect match, very cute! I'm excited about your future (fall) projects, I can't wait ♥ And please, do hauls or all kind of videos for that matter, really -- it's always very interesting and inspiring!

Great job as usual with this make, I am always impressed by your ambitious projects. I think that feeling of apprehension may be your brain trying to categorize this very original work. What you have there is something fresh that combines your sensibilities & instincts from many hours of work with vintage sewing. That it at first feels challenging in a not necessarily negative way is an indication that you are onto something that goes beyond craftsmanship. It's art.

I absolutely love it! I'm also a huge sucker for puffy sleeves. I've definitely got to check out that fabric designer. I see most reproduction vintage clothing is either in solid colors or the most awful garish pastel florals and polka-dots, and with this print and your unique patterning you've really captured something a very fashionable and creative woman would've created in the late 1930's.

That fabric is WILD. I waffled on whether or not I liked it right along with you, but the silhouette fits it so well, I'm on the side of LIKE :)

I was really worried about the sleeves at first, but I loved it once the buttons went on. This is one of my new favorite channels.

Gorgeous print and colour. The dress is lovely and kinda reminds me of vintage Laura Ashley, especially the sleeves.

I’m making a quilt with that fabric and the rest of the colorway! Gorgeous fabric and high quality. Bought a layer cake and jelly roll of the fabric on line

I wasn't sure I would like the fabric as a full dress at first. If I could sew clothing I would have played it safe and made a circle skirt to wear with a solid top. I love how it turned out though! The hat, shoes and belt really added to the look. The button details were really cute as well.

I wasn't sure if I liked the dress until you added the buttons and then styled it. The buttons really highlight the bodice details.
