When I saw pictures of the blouse in your Sewing Through the Decades video, I didn't even realize it had such a whimsical print. Maybe I am just oblivious, but I think the blouse could pass as "normal" at first glance and definitely works as a day to day garment.

Angela you are a very talented maker! It’s why we watch. Part of sewing is finding the best way to get the job done, and you are very good at that. I love this outfit, that blouse is gorgeous and I have been trying to get a perfect part of black pants for a couple decades now. BTW I think there is a moment in the process for all of us where we decide whether we like and enjoy what we are doing or not. I’ve been sewing for 50+ years and have hit that place many times. Nice to know I’m not alone.

Brilliant outfit! Love the fabric, but especially enjoyed the way you chose to film this video. It was informative, but hearing your thought process throughout was especially pleasing. It’s quite easy when locked away in our sewing space to bog ourselves down with doubts an self criticism, but to see we are not the only ones is lovely. The finished result is lovely and I’m especially in love with the blouse. Really enjoy watching you work, you never fail to inspire me.

If there's ever a time u need a break or your not finished with a garment, could u possibly do a look book from the decades with pieces you already made? Emergency long crotch alteration. Turn your trousers inside out. Sew up the entire length of the inseam, up one leg and down the other. Taper to take out as much as needed at the crotch. Re hem the cuffs, as the pants legs will be longer. I realize you probably already know this move , but it was the only way to get my pants legs long enough. I would buy larger pants and do this alteration, I didn't re hem, because I needed longer pants legs. I would put a small dart or two in the waistband if needed.

When I have to re-stitch buttonholes but the fabric weave has weakened, I baste a small square of interfacing within the two fabrics. Between the blouse front and the fabric interfacing. I prefer the lightness of the sewn in interfacing, as opposed to the stiffness of iron on or seam bias tape. Lovely videos. Thank you. 👚

I was in a fashion program for 3 years (I thought I wanted to be a costume designer)... I vividly remember my first class. We had been instructed to purchase a pattern and the very first instruction we were given was to pitch the instructions. They are always convoluted and they’re usually confusing. When you’ve done enough sewing you have a strong concept of how to construct a garment. Trust your instincts.

I adore that shirt. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! On a total side note, I also hate my automatic buttonhole option on my computerized sewing machine. In a bout of frustration a while back, I actually grabbed my vintage Singer buttonholer (or one of them - I purchased one on my own long before I discovered I had forgotten about the boxes that I inherited with my Singer 221 Featherweight and lo and behold, three more buttonholers. Thanks Grandma!) and discovered that the vintage buttonholer attachments work on any standard low-shank machine. It actually works BETTER on my modern machine because the shank lifts higher anyway and I can lower the feed dogs with a button rather than having to put a plate down to take up room. Just set the machine to a standard center straight stitch and let the buttonhole attachment do the work for you. They turn out so beautiful, and I highly HIGHLY recommend if you're down for some testing ;)

Those ladies fabric would make Great Wall hangings. They would look great in you r sewing room. Great video as usual. I make doll clothes and quilts mostly, but your videos are inspiring me to sew for myself again. I am 69, sew I well remember clothing from the fifties, sixties and seventies. By 1980 sewing had fallen out of fashion somewhat because there were more places to buy your clothing retail, still before the big box stores of today, but more places and things to buy. I definitely want to try making vintage pants and maybe shorts.
