Hi I want to say thank you. My distance and accuracy has gotten better. Tight lines.

I was doing this before I watched your videos and I thought it was a bad technique so I tried to avoid doing it. Ironically, it did make it easier because it kept tension on the line allowing me to focus on the back cast. This and roll casting for some reason actually just came easier to me. Thanks for the info Dan! 😏👍🏻

You bet! Some might argue that it might scare the fish away...but the benefits out weigh that I think :))

Great tip Dan. Sure helps me when I’m using an indicator also.

I probably should add a few more - because there are a lot of them! Some days I just have to stop recording and try again another day :)

It's helpful in windy conditions too. The less time the line spends in the air, the less it's affected by the wind.

(kidding) Good golly another video of minutes lost I will never get back ... I keep thinking maybe this next one won't be a time waste ... then there goes another few mins, and again, and again. You get my hopes up, then dash them again ... trying to get into the next "not nice comment video" =) appreciate the technique tip, and actually do like the short videos!

FFD, you fish too much... Curious how you deal with this cast and indicators. I find my poor old Oros down near my fly or split shot if I water load cast after a half-dozen throws - and yes, it's on there tight enough. In all fairness, I don't hit myself and don't use this cast - but I've played with it on windy days. ☮ from North Idaho.

I will use the pick up and lay down cast for indicator setups too - just wait for it to extend all the way behind you, before setting it down in front. Easy peasy!

@FlyFishDan when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. When the student is really ready, the teacher will dissappear.

Ah, wise words! Sounds like you’re saying once the fly is tied, the guide steps aside. But don’t worry, I’ll stick around-I wouldn’t trust a trout to do all the teaching! 🎣
