Angelina is a child prodigy. 9yr 2months in this performance. Won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8. Angelina can sing any genre but jazz is her preference. The 4 songs she sang in NGT in order; Gloomy Sunday, I'm a fool to want you, Bang Bang and Summertime. She received 46% of the total votes. Angelina performs barefoot to remind her of all the less fortunate children in the world. When she was six and traveling with her mother and Grandmother in the Middle East, she came across a young poor girl weighing people for money in the streets. Angelina approached the girl and struck up a conversation. The girl was barefoot and her feet were scarred, it was cold. Angelina ended up taking the shoes off her feet and gave them to the girl. Angelina published a book about the encounter when she was 9 and is the youngest published author in Norway. She has over 150 covers and 5 originals. Angelina has helped raise millions for charities. Angelina and her family moved to LA and she signed with Republic Records in 2020.

She's currently 16 years old, living in Los Angeles, going to school, and is signed with a major record company. She is considered a child prodigy that loves jazz, won Norway's Got Talent at the tender age of 7 years old, been singing since she was 1 1/2 years old, has over 150 videos of covers and some original music on KZbin, her die-hard fans are called Angels, and she is known as The Barefoot Princess/The Barefoot Princess of Jazz. Her family wants her to take it slow in regards to her music career. They want her to finish school before focusing on her music career. Why does she always perform barefoot? When Angelina was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age in Iran. The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. After talking for a few minutes, Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Angelina said she asked the little girl what her dream was, and the girl responded that she wanted to be a doctor. Angelina told her to “never give up.” In return, the girl told Angelina she would pray for her, and asked her to “remember me. Angelina then “vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them.” She keeps that promise to this day, as she says that little girl “is always in my heart.” Just one of the reasons why we love her so much! I'm guessing you looked up the original artist, Screaming Jay Hawkins. He did this song in 1956 and yes, Angelina ALWAYS pays great tribute to the original singers. Her parents were very protective. She talked her mother into letting her try out for Norway's Got Talent when she was 7, and just after turning 8 she won the whole thing. Her Mom said they turned down every offer to sign her after she won, (including Disney) because they wanted her to have as normal of a childhood as possible. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (145+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! She has currently just turned 16yo (in 2022) and has signed with Republic Records but with her family has made the decision not to be promoted seriously until she finishes school (another example of doing things right). If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. 9 year 2 month old Angelina created a great arrangement for this 1956 classic by Screamin Jay Hawkins. Angelina takes charge of the studio and the band to deliver a powerful, emotional performance. Here is a bio I compiled for my all time favorite artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZbin video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. While I'm always surprised with the talent flowing off her in all of her performances, I really enjoy this song and one she performed at 13 years of age on America's Got Talent the Champions. Angelina had entered Norway's Got Talent at 7 and won as a new 8 year old. AGTC seeks out the winners from the global 'Got Talent' shows. Norwegian-born Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Here are a few details I picked up along the Angelina experience, Angelina speaks and sings in 3 languages, designs her own clothes, and has written a highly popular book published in 2015 called Mellon to jheter (Between two Hearts), and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina's mother "Sara" is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The grandmother( Artist Mary Zamani) on her mother's side is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) is from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather. angelina recorded a promo for linked in at the log cabin studio in ny right b4 pandemic. its possible she was going to record an original jazz album there as she said she had the songs written. the pandemic came and she signed with republic and her mother told republic they couldn't promote her until she graduates...she has a lot of original material and i think there are going to be jazz covers also...

If you like the old classics, then you could not have made a better choice, as Angelina is gradually reviving the songs of the past for all you youngsters to enjoy. Before I comment further about this performance, please, can you post a link to Eartha Kit singing this song as I have been unable to find it. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. I agree with the last comment: Superb reaction and kudos for noticing the significance of the candle and recognizing the original artist. If you are intent on pursuing the classics, especially the old jazz classics, then you've found the right singer. She honors Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Etta James and others. You'll get hundreds of recommendations, so I won't burden you mine, but she is at a level that can't be bettered when she's singing the jazz classics.

I remember Nina Simone had a big hit with this song and a lot of people believe she was original singer . Screaming jay wrote and sang it about 55 or 56 .Eartha Kitt was a great singer but I don]t think she covered it . FYI she was catwomen on batman in the 60's . anyway this young lady will blow your socks off . You probably already know but Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins originally did this song. I am glad you caught the intro reference. We have lost so much of what has gotten us here today. There are a couple of nine-year-olds that are capable of just absolutely flooring people shocking them with how good they are Angelina Jordan is one of them or was she was nine another one was Alma Deutscher. Alma is a composer she composers (writes) classical music. She's absolutely extraordinarily good. David, Alma is indeed amazing, although I'm not really a classical music or opera fan. I binged on her YT videos for over a year & her talent is historical as people will still be playing her music in future centuries. She plays a mean violin & piano, as well. But I am in to jazz & when I discovered Angelina 4 years ago it was all over for me, as I'm hopelessly addicted.

Dude, you want classics, wow did you find the right artist. She's been listening and singing jazz and blues since she was 2, guided by her Granma Merry. She speaks 3 languages. Norwegian is her native, then Farsi and English. She performs barefoot in honor of a poor girl her age she met while traveling that was begging on the street. They struck up a conversation, Angelina gave her her shoes and the girl said she would pray for her every day. Angelina wrote a book about it, at 9 yrs old which was published in Norway, making her the youngest published author in Norway. She arranges all of her covers and has written 5 of her own songs. Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019.
