A former CSX AC6000 returns! Wabtec adds former B&H 6006 to its test fleet!

After coming back to the place they were built 4 former CSX/ WNY&P/B&H AC6000s had an uncertain future. At least one is now back in service and will be used for testing! The big CSX AC's are mostly all gone but at least this one has a new life for now! On its first trip up the test track with Union Pacific and CSX units July 18, 2024.

It’s great to see these former B&H and WNYP AC46’s being used. I saw 6006, 6000, 6003, and 6007 in Olean in May just before being shipped out, it was sad to see them go but at least they have a “bright” future!

Glad to see those being used again. I caught them on the WNYP last year. Those Gevo-16’s are hands down the best sounding prime movers out there. A shame the new leadership ran the WNYP into the ground.

@@stephankoenig5481 I never had the chance to run one. I worked with a few former CSX engineer's that loved the AC60's before and after they were de-rated. Hopefully Wabtec keeps them around.

It really sucks that CSX sold off and scrapped almost all of their AC6000's leaving only a few survivors. At least UP still uses their AC4460CW's.

Are they just testing for low-speed pulling capability? With the way they're crawling along as if they're pulling a heavy train up a steep grade, but without anything to pull?
