Please convey to Mr Currie that his recounting of his story of coming home to the Church was excellent. I am a born catholic and attended catholic schools in Scotland where we pupils received a very good grounding in the Faith. It also helped that we were in a Calvanist Country and as catholics subjected to tremendous bigotry. Nevertheless I am pleased to say that despite the said climate I can count many Protestant colleagues as very good friends. If the truth be told, the protestant peoples had their religion stolen from them by 16th century politicians ( Mostly Kings and the Aristocracy ) who made themselves rich in the process. The ordinary people had no say in the matter, they were mostly illiterate villagers with a pig or two and a few hens. Human nature doesn't change ( follow the money). It was as true then as it is today. Anyway, you were certainly blessed and so welcome home to the faith of your forefathers.

I'm forever grateful to Steve Wood and the Holy Ghost for helping me return to Holy Mother Church back in about 1991. Steve Wood was just writing his chapter in the first Surprised by Truth book. It was like we were on the same journey, but from different coasts. He was in Cali and I was in Miami during the Jesus Revolution days. I used to go to Metro Bible Study in Atlanta back in the early 80's and talk to Mylon LeFevre as he was mopping the floor. Mylon was in recovery, and I too was in a rehab in 1975, after being kicked out of my house and school. God bless Mr White for hiring me and letting me sleep at the gas station. BTW, gas was .24 cents per gallon and there was no self service pumps 😂 Windows, tires, check and top off all fluids 😂 and sometimes you'd get a quarter as a tip. Got born again in June of 1979, but really March of 1960 on the day of my Baptism. Catholics should know their Baptism date, so when they are asked if they are born again, they can respond with Boldness, and to freak out the other person 😂 Ya gotta have some fun with it. Instead, they teach what the original Catholic faith teaches. If you want "apologetics," there are books you can find. Type "Catholic Apologetics" into a Google search. Or consult EWTN. Christ's WORK is COMPLETE, but His afflictions are not, and are shared in His church (those truly saved in Christ), since true believers are in union in Him; crucified with Him, buried with Him, raised with Him, seated with Him in the heavenlies, and also, true believers have Christ's GLORY as a result of union IN Him (2 Thess 2:14), and indeed have BECOME THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM (2 Cor 5:21) as a result of union in Him. True believers share in Christ's afflictions BUT DO NOT ADD TO HIS WORK WITH PERSONAL GOOD WORKS.

Colossians 1:24 -- Paul was saying that he was suffering for the sake of the Gospel to help people come to Christ. And he was receiving sufferings that Christ never did (stoned, left for dead but not dead, thrown physically out of town, etc.) *He was not saying that his sufferings were propitiatory for people's sins* (as Jesus' passion & death were). Paul welcomed the suffering, for he desired to be as much like Christ as possible. Why was that so problematic? You say that your interpretation of John 6 is what convinced you to become Catholic. David, did you miss the fact that the Greek manuscripts record Jesus' words in (both) verses 35 and 54 using the _present active participle,_ which always indicates _present_ (not future) action? The discussion in John 6 took place a full year _before_ the Last Supper; how could they literally consume Jesus? They couldn't! If you read the context of John 6 as a unit, you may discover that Jesus was trying all along to convince them to _believe in Him_ as their Messiah, not to ingest Him. Jesus could not have been teaching about Communion a whole year before the Last Supper. Look at what St. Augustine believed _specifically about John 6:53._ “If it be a speech that commandeth, either by forbidding an horrible wickedness, or requiring that which is profitable, it is not figurative: but if it seem to require horrible wickedness, and to forbid that is good and profitable, it is spoken figuratively. Except ye eat (saith Christ) the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. He seemeth (in verse 53) to require the doing of that which is horrible, or most wicked: it is a figure, therefore, commanding us to communicate with the passion of Christ, and comfortably and profitably to lay up in our remembrance, that his flesh was crucified and wounded for us.” Personally, I was a cradle Catholic. At age 18 (almost 19), alone in a boarding house room and reading a book about actual exorcisms performed by Catholic priests (written by Malachi Martin), I came to the full realization that Satan and God are both real. I prayed a simple prayer to God, acknowledging Jesus my Savior from sin, and asking God to fill me with His Spirit so my "house" wouldn't be empty (Matt. 12:43-45) and there would be no room in me for an evil spirit. As a Catholic, I had _zero expectation_ of anything happening. But immediately, something happened that the Catholic Church _never prepared me for in the least: I KNEW that God had come into me!_ He gave me a vision, and He began communicating to me in 'thought pictures' so rapidly I could scarcely keep up. Suddenly _I felt CLEAN on the inside_ like never before. I was filled with joy and peace! I went around with a huge grin for about 2 weeks! I'd talk to God, knowing He was right there inside of me, and I could sense Him gently guiding me and telling me things. God knew what I needed for spiritual growth. He soon began urging me to explore other churches. I resisted. All my family members were Catholic. How could I not be Catholic? I fought against the Spirit's leading for 8 years, and during this time I gradually grew colder and colder toward the Holy Spirit. Sunday Mass didn't provide the edification I needed; the homilies seemed to center on the 'social gospel' most of the time. Finally, God provided a 'divine appointment' with some folks who'd left the Catholic Church and were attending a Protestant church; they reawakened the hunger for intimacy with the Spirit like I'd had before, and I finally obeyed God & left the Catholic Church. That was about 40 years ago and I know it was God's will for me. I am now in a good ACNA Anglican parish. They teach the Real Presence, but in a Sacramental & Spiritual manner and not a carnal, corporal way. All of my trust rests upon the propitiation which Jesus made on the cross 2000 years ago to redeem me from every one of my sins, and I know that I have eternal life (John 6:47; 1Jn 5:13). I left the Catholic faith for the Christian faith; I have no faith in any denomination or priestly hierarchy, for all of my faith is in Jesus Christ. I suppose everyone's path is different. David, "trust in the Lord with all your heart" and I'll hope to see you in our new home, with Jesus forever.

BTW, I agree with David that the 'catching away' of those living believers in Christ will take place at the Second Advent, not 7 years (or 3.5 years) prior.

You left the catholic church because you did not do your part as a catholic...

What happened to the love affair with your World church in Tulsa?

2,000 years of Church history is impossible to overthrow - actually 3,000 years since the Church is the Kingdom of David.

@@julielabrecque6416 Julie, I hope you are enjoying good health. Still in Bristow, I assume? I missed the traditional hymns, with singers and organ in the rear instead of on stage. When I complained to the Lord, the Holy Spirit very clearly guided me to my present ACNA Anglican parish. Nothing wrong with the other church, since they were teaching the Biblical Gospel which the Apostles taught, but that's the nice thing about the Protestant umbrella of Christianity: we are married to our Savior, Jesus Christ, not to a particular hierarchical body.
