I was protestant growing up and then I became an atheist because Christianity seemed stupid as a seventh day Adventist teenager. I have come back to Christ and decided to be diligent with what denomination I would choose and Catholicism won with zero difficulty. I can’t wait to join the church Easter of 2025. Pray for me.

I will pray for you. Not a criticism but since you desire to become Catholic I think it's something you would want to know. The Catholic Church is not a denomination. Denominations came out of the Reformation. The Catholic Church is the one true Church.

I should have become Catholic as a child. I was baptized Catholic at 3. But my dad left the faith and I grew up Presbyterian and stayed there until 63, a total of 55 years. I was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. But their liberal teachings isn't in the Bible and that led me to go deeper and study the Bible, study the history of Christianity. Study the beliefs of the different faiths. That all led me to the Catholic Church. Now I defend the faith and been doing so since my first RCIA class

How to Be Christian is a pretty fun resource for combating Protestantism. The Catholic Talk Show is awesome if you're looking for something a bit more laid back. Their chemistry is unmatched. Trent Horn, Jimmy Akin, Scott Hahn, John Bergsma, and Keith Nester put out some pretty great stuff as well. Pints with Aquinas can be profound when Matt resists his tendency to be a pesky little rad Trad lad. (I ❤ Mother Natalia!) Michael Lofton is an incredible source of legitimate information among all the manufactured anti-Pope Francis hype. Fr. Casey is good for the youth, even though he can be a tad liberal for my liking. His stuff with Fr. Pat is charming. *Avoid borderline schismatics like Michael Vorris and Taylor Marshall at all costs.* God bless!

@@dand4485 you are correct. Catholicism is full of lies! It keeps people in bondage - trying to work off their sins and earn their way to heaven - never sure if they have worked hard enough and facing pergatory to finish their work there! But we know as Protestants that Jesus paid for our every sin - they were laid on HIM on the Cross and our promise from God is that we will be saved by faith in Jesus our Redeemer and Justifier and Saviour and substitute on the cross - yes we need to live Godly lives and put off sin and be obedient once we are saved by God’s Grace - but we look to the indwelling Holy Spirit for help in our Christian walk! We confess our sins to God and ask for forgiveness and HE has promised forgiveness. But we have assurance that when we die in Christ we will be with Him forever. No Purgatory !! This is what the Bible teaches. We cannot pay for our sin - no penance- only the Blood Of Christ. Once and for all time - no catholic on going mass where we are told Jesus dies over and over again! What blasphemous teaching! Jesus said just before He died “It is finished,” He has paid for our sins and He did it once! That is enough for eternity! Praise God! K

I agree. I’ve always felt a big difference is that Catholicism is a call to holiness where as I’ve heard so many Protestant friends say they’ve done enough and are saved. That seems to miss the point to me. The point is not for us to be whisked away to heaven. It’s to have fullness of life by turning away from sin and aligning our will with God’s. There have been Protestant saints I’m sure. But it seems there are so many more Catholic saints throughout history who lived lives of complete devotion to God regardless of circumstances. In fact offer despite horrible circumstances.

Grew up Catholic, went to Catholic High School and have never forgotten those roots. I’ve gone to Non Denominational Churches that were effectively Protestant for over 20 years. Some were good and some not so much. I’ve had a draw to come back and am following those steps
@jasonrhtx
@jasonrhtx 8 ай бұрын
@Z25MikeD I've experienced nondenominational churches, too. Heartfelt, but lacking theological coherence (more emotion than reason) and historical context, and oddly very anti-Catholic, almost as justification for their separation. When I visited several different nondenominational churches, I asked why they've splintered so much and how they resolved differences in interpretation (final human authority) and couldn't get reasonable answers. They kept pointing me to the Early Church, those closest to Christ, "before Constantine". So, I read about the Early Church and found Didache, Ignatius of Antioch, Irenaeus, and Tertullian, and I learned more about the "sacraments" and hierarchy in the Early Church. I thought about how the Apostles spoke to their disciples about Jesus' teachings, sharing verbally until the first Gospel, Mark, was written about 20 years after Jesus' Resurrection. And I realized that before the New Testament was written (through Revelation), it was faithfully transmitted and taught verbally by the Apostles and their chosen disciples (bishops and priests) to early Christians across generations. This oral transmission and teaching is called Sacred Tradition. Sacred Tradition determined what should and shouldn't be included in the official canon of the New Testament. Hundreds (later thousands) of bishops gathered in councils, called by the Bishop of Rome, to debate and decide the canon, dogma and doctrine, not just one man. The councils condemned heresies (untruths), which often come from one man who breaks from the Church to start his own church, like Montanus (a new "prophet", who spoke in tongues, appointed himself above the Church, and predicted Jesus' imminent Second Coming to his hometown), Arius ("Christ was merely human"), the Gnostics ("Christ was not human", because all Creation is evil), and Pelagius (God's grace is not needed--we can save ourselves by our own efforts). In light of what I found about the Early Church, and after some further research into the beliefs of a number of nondenominational (and Protestant) churches, I could find no reason to belong to anything but the Catholic Church.

Universal - in That the True Church is universal, that the church of Jesus Christ is made up of true born again, regenerated , genuinely saved by faith , saved by the grace and intervention of God believers! No matter what denomination they are if it is a true and authentic bible truth teaching denomination!! The Roman Catholic Church is not any of these! People who have been Roman Catholic have been saved by the grace of God and have left the Roman church generally speaking! The church is actually made up of genuine believers all over the World - those whom God - by HIS GRACE chosen before the creation of the world - are brought to faith by a spiritual work within them - enacted by God Himself! That is the world wide or catholic - church - NOT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC So Called Church- which is false as it teaches unbiblical doctrine a practices ! Hope this is what you mean by your above statement. K

It’s like spiritual warfare, the fallen angels can grab a hold of an ex-Catholic in a stronger way. There is a quote somewhere in the bible that says, if you were with us and you turn away from the Church, it would have been better for you to have never known. I am totally paraphrasing and I think it was Jesus that said. But please do not quote me on it. I just remember something like it.

Many years ago, when I returned to God, I took my family to both an E-Free church in the morning and Catholic mass in the early afternoon. We did this for nearly 1 years. It became a bit wearing on my family, but I couldn’t choose. So I prayed to God. I asked God to let me know where he wanted me to go. The answer was clear as day. To all my brothers and sisters in Christ, we are one Church, one bride of Christ. The Holy Spirit will guide your steps if you ask for guidance and listen for the small whispers from God.

For some reason I couldn’t post on the other post. I’m not really sure why. Sometimes channels discriminately block repeated post from certain biased oppositions. I’m not really sure why they do that. Then again sometimes it’s just KZbin being stupid Paul John and all of the apostles do not use free choice language. They use absolute language. You’re either one, or the other. Where one has certain attributes the other has the opposite. They never say you must do this or you must do that. They never say- choose to do. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Eph. 2:8-10). We have been saved by grace through faith, and not of works. No man has any cause for boasting. We are not saved by good works, but we are in fact saved to good works. We are created in Christ Jesus to good works, works that were ordained beforehand for us to walk in. As foreordained works, this means that they necessarily follow salvation by grace. And, as such, there is no inconsistency when God uses them as an infallible indicator that salvation by grace has in fact occurred. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Phil. 2:12-13) We are to work out our salvation, but this is only possible as we are working out what God is working in. And so it is that we are saved by works the work of Christ on the cross, and the works of the Spirit within us, which works are, from our perspective, entirely and utterly gracious.

God is not a relentless sovereign who condemns the guilty, but a loving father whom we must love not out of fear of punishment, but because of his goodness. The Lord is a God who is just, but always ready to reveal himself as merciful and compassionate.”

"dead" saints aren't dead, they're more alive than ever now that they are united with God in heaven.... unquote AGAIN------***John 3:13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. READ THAT AGAIN!!!! >>>The word “saint” comes from the Greek word hagios, which means “consecrated to God, holy, sacred, pious." It is almost always used in the plural, “saints.” "…Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem" (Acts 9:13). "Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda" (Acts 9:32). "And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons …“ (Acts 26:10). There is only one instance of the singular use, and that is "Greet every saint in Christ Jesus…" (Philippians 4:21). In Scripture there are 67 uses of the plural “saints” compared to only one use of the singular word “saint.” Even in that one instance, a plurality of saints is in view: “…every saint…” (Philippians 4:21). The idea of the word “saints” is a group of people set apart for the Lord and His kingdom. There are three references referring to godly character of saints: "that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints …" (Romans 16:2). "For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12). "But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints" (Ephesians 5:3). Therefore, scripturally speaking, the “saints” are the body of Christ, Christians, the church. All Christians are considered saints. All Christians are saints-and at the same time are called to be saints. First Corinthians 1:2 states it clearly: “To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy…” The words “sanctified” and “holy” come from the same Greek root as the word that is commonly translated “saints.” Christians are saints by virtue of their connection with Jesus Christ. Christians are called to be saints, to increasingly allow their daily life to more closely match their position in Christ. This is the biblical description and calling of the saints. How does the Roman Catholic understanding of “saints” compare with the biblical teaching? Not very well. In Roman Catholic theology, the saints are in heaven. In the Bible, the saints are on earth. In Roman Catholic teaching, a person does not become a saint unless he/she is “beatified” or “canonized” by the Pope or prominent bishop. In the Bible, everyone who has received Jesus Christ by faith is a saint. In Roman Catholic practice, the saints are revered, prayed to, and in some instances, worshiped. In the Bible, saints are called to revere, worship, and pray to God alone.The doctrine of Transubstantiation teaches idolatrous behavior. The Roman Catholic Church (RCC) teaches that the substances of bread and wine cease to exist and only the 'accidents' remain. Those 'accidents' are what can be detected via the 5 senses: the taste, the smell, the visible appearance (optical image), the texture, the alcoholic effect, the gluten effect on gluten-intolerant, the chemical properties, the molecular structure... all of these are 'accidents' and do not speak to the substance, which is now the whole Christ including His physical flesh, His physical blood, His soul, and His divinity. >>>>Quote -----Now, that I've answered your question on "where is that in the Bible?" can you answer my question which is "where is it forbidden in the Bible?".... unquote The Bible states that God is against praying to the dead (Leviticus 19:31; Deuteronomy 18:10-12), the saints or Mary (1 Timothy 2:5). The Bible says we are to pray only to God, in Jesus' name (Matthew 4:10; Luke 4:8; John 14:13, 14; 16:23, 24, 26; Ephesians 5:20; Colossians 3:17; 1 Timothy 1:17; Jude 1:25).

Protestant systematic theology has an interesting history. Originally it started off with (1600s) 1. God therefore Bible, but it eventually changed to 1. Bible therefore God (1700s) and has remained that way ever since. When the Bible is the means to God, it is essentially the tangible becoming the means to the intangible and thats a direction from you through a book to God so the focus becomes on the book. Whereas the Catholic Sacraments is the opposite direction God the intangible works through the tangible to bestow grace on us.

Yeah, very apt analogy. One way or another you have to justify why you left, and explain it to people who are trusting you to guide them. So there's a pressure to perpetuate lies about Catholics, and a big disincentive against doing research that might prove them to be false, since then you or your flock would find out that you were wrong. People are disinclined to admit being wrong about anything, even such transitory matters as political beliefs. But this is one particular belief where the stakes could not possibly be higher, the eternal souls of you and everyone you know, and all your ancestors. Who wants to believe that their parents might be suffering in hell for eternity because they happened to be born into a phony schismatic church? Of course, we hope no one is damned for something like that, but it's impossible to have _confidence_ that it won't happen. It's so much more comfortable to just carry on believing that you and your parents and your parents' parents just happened to be born into the true church that, through the power of reason, managed to recover the true faith of the Apostles after over a thousand years of suppression and marginalization by the united Church of all of Christendom, so there's nothing to worry about and you'll all go to heaven. And to defend those who defected, who effectively brought you to whatever protestant church you were born into, it's not effective to say "our church is just as valid as yours," since if it's just equally good, then why leave? The decision to abandon a united church demands a more serious justification; something must have been positively _wrong_ about the original church. So every little difference between Protestant and Catholic (and even some fake differences that don't actually exist except in Jack Chick tracts) is magnified a thousandfold and ripped out of context, so that the Catholic Church begins to appear like this intolerable, demonic tyrant. Locking Bibles up with chains so they can't be read is a great example of how something noble the Church actually did - creating Bibles and letting anyone read them for free, in a time when each copy cost the equivalent of thousands of dollars (or even millions for some illuminated manuscripts) to produce - is distorted into something almost cartoonishly villainous - rather than tying the Bibles to chains so you couldn't walk out of Church with them (the same thing tech stores do today, chaining down phones and laptops so you can try them but can't steal them), we hear they were chaining down Bibles so only the priests with the keys could read them. It's hard to imagine anyone believes this, since if the Church didn't want people to read the Bible, why bother producing so many Bibles and tying them to the floor, when you could just... not leave Bibles out in the open of every chapel, cathedral, and library. But this is a persuasive myth because it's recounted to people when they are still children. Once the lie is locked in, it's rarely ever reevaluated. And in that sense, the analogy to divorce is very strong, since it's exactly why children can be poisoned against their fathers. Some beliefs are reevaluated in adulthood, but not all of them. People employ a scattershot approach, spamming the child with so many lies that it's just a numbers game; it's statistically impossible to reevaluate all of them, and perhaps psychologically impossible to do so without deconstructing your entire personality. Anyway, it's a good thing Catholics have a great answer to Protestants' fear that accepting Catholicism means acknowledging that hundreds of their ancestors are probably damned to eternal torment: purgatory. It's true that Protestants know the Catholic Church exists and can engage with the arguments and historical evidence to see that it's the original Church that Jesus established and has not committed some great apostasy, so they do technically sin by remaining in schism. But Catholic soteriology incorporates a nuanced philosophy of culpability. Someone who has been taught hundreds of lies about Holy Mother Church from early childhood has diminished responsibility for remaining in schism. Even if it's technically possible that he could have sorted through all those lies and figured out the truth, the sheer difficulty of such a task ensures he is less culpable. And diminished culpability is generally considered to be one of the reasons for purgatory to exist. You also can't repent of a sin you don't know you've committed, so you have diminished culpability for failing to repent also. So it's entirely possible that most protestants are redeemed through fire rather than damned. Which means you don't need to live in denial of the obvious testimony of the early Church Fathers and the words of Christ vis-a-vis the Eucharist and the appointment of Peter to avoid the unbearable thought of everyone you know being damned. We also believe that one person's intercession can save many. If you do convert, you may be able to persuade God to save all your ancestors, especially if you ask the saints to intercede for them as well. After all, the Bible clearly says that the prayers of the saints are more powerful than the prayers of sinners. It doesn't mean that you're doing the saving. God almost always works through his creatures, to give them an opportunity to be charitable, loving, and faithful of their own accord. He's trying to teach us something. Perhaps interceding with him on your ancestors' behalf is one of God's purposes for you: to be the final linchpin in God's plan to save all those people, and in so doing to become Christlike yourself. Pure conjecture, of course. But it's worth thinking about before you dismiss Catholicism as a live option on account of what it would mean for all your forebears.

I heard from Joe heshmeyer that there is one heresy that had a similar doctrine to non sacramental protestants. That was valentinian gnosticism, which had a eucharist that wasn't really Jesus Christs body and blood. In saint Irenaeus's Against Heresies, i believe Irenaeus argues against the gnostic eucharist which was similar to the protestant eucharist way back then.

St. Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp were Direct Disciples of St. John the Apostle...BTW, St. Ignatius of Antioch first used the Greek word; "Katolicós" (UNIVERSAL) to describe the Catholic Church in 107A.D.
@mitchellosmer1293
@mitchellosmer1293 3 ай бұрын
The word Catholic derived from the Late Latin Catholicus and from the Greek adjective καθολικός (katholikos) meaning “universal”] comes from the Greek phrase καθόλου (katholou), meaning “on the whole”, “according to the whole”, “throughout all” or “in general”, and is a combination of the Greek words κατά meaning “about” and ὅλος meaning “whole”. In Latin, the word Catholic is also translated as “Universal”, which can be read in the Holy Bible: >> “ai men oun EKKLESIA(church) KATH (throughout) OLES (all) tēs ioudaias kai galilaias kai samareias eichon eirēnēn oikodomoumenai kai poreuomenai tō phobō tou kuriou kai tē paraklēsei tou agiou pneumatos eplēthunonto.” >>>>lets' take out the words "THROUGHOUT ALL" and replace it with "Catholic". So the CHURCH Catholic Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.” (Acts 9:31 ESV) Does that make sense? WHAT IS THAT VERSE ABOUT????? PEACE!!! I’m at a loss of words when people claim that the Catholic Church had sometime in history had ended by the death of the last apostle or that they use the part in scriptures which talks about the apostasy of the church meaning that they claim that all of the church that Jesus had started upon the Apostles had ended,now right there I want to stress that this is a big FAT LIE.Why because Jesus told Peter and the other apostles that the GATES OF HELL SHALL NEVER PREVAIL AGAINST HIS CHURCH THAT WAS STARTED UPON PETER AND THE OTHER APOSTLES,and furthermore Jesus says go and preach the gospel to all the world making disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit,and also says to his Apostles and know that I am with you ALL DAYS EVEN TO THE CONSUMMATION OF TIME now it seems clearer than the NOON DAY SUN THAT THE CHURCH JESUS HAD STARTED FROM THE BEGINNING UPON HIS APOSTLES WILL NOT END TILL HE RETURNS ON THE LAST DAY TO JUDGE EVERY ONE AND END TIME AND EXISTENCE?

@@mikekayanderson408 According to sacred tradition, Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church. The New Testament records Jesus's appointment of the Twelve Apostles and his instructions to them to continue his work. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus designates Peter as the "rock" upon which his church will be built. The term "Catholic" is believed to have originated with St. Ignatius of Antioch, an early successor of the apostles. Ignatius was a zealous defender of the faith who emphasized the importance of the unity of the Church.

(Where in the Bible is a church named Catholic mentioned?) #8--Christ NEVER taught that we can pray to the dead.-(Where is the bible does it state we can pray to the dead?) #9--Christ NEVER taught that the dead can hear our prayers. (Where in the bible does it state the dead can hear our prayers #10--Christ NEVER taught that anyone can change the day of worship . (Where in the Bible does IT STATE GOD changed the day of worship to Sunday?) #11--Christ NEVER taught to confess to a "priest". (Where in the Bible does it state we are to confess our sins to a Priest?) #12--Christ NEVER Taught a priest can forgive your sins. (Where in the Bible does it state a priest can forgive our sins #13--Christ NEVER taught salvation is through a church..(Where is the bible does it state our salvation comes from a church #14--Christ NEVER taught to pray to, or with beads!!! (Where in the bile does it state we are to use/pray to beads?) #15--Christ NEVER started a church named Catholic!!! (Where in the Bible does it mention a church named Catholic?) #16--Christ never said to confess your sins to a priesJohn 14:6 New International Version - Bible Gateway And yes, IT MUST be IN the Bible!! Jesus said: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. ... No one comes to the Father except through me.." So, when a church teaches what contradicts what Jesus taught, which one is the truth??? If you say the church is righjt, that means Jesus is a liar!!! That erases ALL the 4 gospels!!! That leaves out ALL of Matt 16!! Along with that. you insist Jesus is God, then that implies God is liar. That erases ALL the Bible!! If you say Jesus is right, that means the church has lied!!! IT CAN NOT be both right!!!

I will be confirmed on the 18th of May, at 65, but I dont believe my soul would be in danger if i remained protestant. There are many good protestants out there....

It will if you know that the Catholic Church is the true church and refuse to enter it.

There are good people everywhere but the Truth is in one place. You can live and respect them, love your brothers as yourself, but the Truth is true and loving your brothers should not take you away from following the Truth.

I would pray they become trues believers in the truth of the Gospel and the Bible but not Catholic which is a bunch of lies! The Catholic Church as in Roman Catholic is full of deception which you and your daughters need to escape from!
